Buzzfeed Japan Interview with the Rocket Trio
February 23rd, 2020

Dogasu @ 21:20 JST -- The Rocket trio didn't appear in tonight's episode of Pocket Monsters 2019 and so I've taken it upon myself to provide you with your weekly fix of the trio by translating this interview Buzzfeed Japan did with the Rocket's voice actors back in July. The interview is entitled "Can a man and a woman be "just friends"? We ask the Rocket trio."

Buzzfeed Japan Rocket Trio interview

The interview covers a lot of ground, including what it was like to audition for the roles, whether or not the voice actors think there's any romance going on between the members of the Rocket trio, what they really think about their brief stint as "serious villains" in the Best Wishes! series, and their thoughts on the battle between Musashi and Kojirou at the Alola League. It's a great interview filled with lots of new information and I hope you all enjoy it!

"Twilight Wings" Episode Two
February 18th, 2020

Dogasu @ 22:27 JST -- The second episode of Twilight Wings, "Training," just came out in Japan! Check out the episode for yourself here:

Twilight Wings "Training"

I'll be adding details about the cast and staff in the coming hours.

Update 22:45 JST:  Here's the Episode 2 full cast list.
Update 1:04 JST:  And here's the complete staff list for Episode 2.

"Twilight Wings" is an animated web series based on the characters and settings of the Galar Region from the Pocket Monsters Sword & Shield video games. It is a separate continuity from the weekly TV series featuring Satoshi and Pikachu. New five minute episodes are scheduled to come out about once a month from January until July 2020.

Netflix's "Pokémon: Mewtwo Strikes Back Evolution" to have a Japanese language option?
February 14th, 2020

Dogasu @ 08:10 JST -- The new Netflix trailer having "Japanese" as one of the available languages certainly implies as much!

If the actual movie itself has a Japanese language option then this will be huge, but at the same time we fans of the Japanese version have been burned so many times in the past that I don't think I'll actually believe this is real until I'm actually sitting there watching it with my own two eyes.

The bad news is that the English subs provided for the trailer, at least, are merely dubtitles and not a separate translation based on the original Japanese script. If these subs are the same ones used for Anime Expo last July then that means TPCI had a dub script for this movie completed before the film even hit theaters in Japan.
The Japanese subtitles, weirdly enough, are also based on the English dub script, not the Japanese original.

The good news is that the English dub script, at least from what I've seen of it, seems to be mostly OK-ish. There are a few lines that seem like quotes from the 1999 original but I've only seen the 4Kids dub of that movie like four or five times in my entire life so I wouldn't trust my memory on that.

In any case, February 27th looks like it's gotten to be a lot more interesting!

Mewtwo Strikes Back Evolution (ミュウツーの逆襲 EVOLUTION) is the 22nd Pocket Monsters movie. The film was released on Friday, July 12th, 2019 in Japan and was part of a year-long campaign known as "The Year of Mewtwo." The English version will debut on Netflix in the U.S. on February 27th, 2020.

List of TV Episodes Revamp
February 11th, 2020

Dogasu @ 23:24 JST -- This isn't a going to go down in history as one of the most exciting updates I've ever done but it's something that's been a long time coming; a complete revamp of the List of TV Episodes!

I basically went through the section and consolidated multiple pages, added series posters where appropriate, added translations of the series overview from the Japanese Pokémon site, made various corrections here and there, and made tons and tons of other little edits to make the whole thing look better. I also went and retranslated all the Jouto TV episode titles because the old ones weren't very good.

Anyway, now that I can check this off the list I'm free to work on other stuff for the site!

Dogasu's Backpack is 20 Years Old
February 2nd, 2020

Dogasu @ 12:44 JST -- Dogasu's Backpack just turned 20 years old.

20th Anniversary

I always do these big write-ups on my site's anniversary and so for this year's momentous occasion I've written up a brief history of this website to help you all understand where this site came from and where it's going in the future. Think of it as the thesis statement for Dogasu's Backpack. I've also done the usual predictions about what I think will happen in the coming year so be sure to check those out as well.

I don't say this nearly often enough but thank you all for visiting this site over the years. It really does mean a lot to me that so many of you seem to be responding so positively to the stuff I've been putting out there these last two decades. I hope you'll continue to enjoy what's to come.
