The series was first announced to the public on Friday, December 13th, 2019.
The limited series was marketed quite differently based on what region of the world you're in. In Japan, a list of staff and cast was provided before the series' debut; in the U.S., this information was absent but fans instead got to learn that the series would consist of seven five-minute episodes, a fact the initial Japanese promotional material left out.
After the release of Episode 4 "Early-Evening Waves," the official Japanese Pokémon Twitter issued an apology for getting fans' hopes up by featuring Pokémon in the episode that you cannot currently get in the Pocket Monsters Sword & Shield video games.
The release of Episode 5 was delayed due to the COVID-19 pandemic. As a result the debuts of Episodes 6 and 7 were also pushed back to a month later than expected.
