"Snow Way Out," Mega V CD Single Release
May 28th, 2014

Dogasu @ 23:45 JST -- Today I randomly present a comparison for the fourth of the four bangaihen (番外編), or "special episodes" of the original Pocket Monsters series, "Iwaku as a Bivouac."  It was released in the U.S. as "Snow Way Out!"

"Snow Way Out!"

This is the episode where 4Kids tries to tell us that a random old woman in a flashback is Musashi's mother!  It's also the episode where they cut out almost half a minute's worth of footage to avoid exposing kids to the dangers of matches.

In music news, Yuusuke's Mega V is getting a CD single release on June 18th.  There will be three releases - two with a DVD, one without - and the contents vary depending on the release.  As you can see from the cover art below, the *deep breath* Sunshine / Mega V First-Run Limited Edition Production Recording B (DVD included) is the special pokemon version.

Sunshine / Mega V

The artist's official site also mentions that Mega V will be the opening theme to the TV series Pocket Monsters XY (TVアニメ「ポケットモンスター XY」オープニングテーマに決定している「メガV(メガボルト)」) so maybe we'll see it as early as tomorrow night's hour long "Mega Evolution" broadcast?

The CD Guide has been updated accordingly.

The Pocket Monsters Planetarium Shows
May 25th, 2014

Dogasu @ 16:45 JST -- One of the goals of this website is to inform its visitors about little-known Japanese products and shows related to Pocket Monsters.  Today's update is one of those things I've been meaning to do for a long time but haven't actually gotten around to starting on until this past week or so.  Today, I present a guide to the various Pocket Monsters planetarium specials.

To date there are four of these specials with a fifth one coming out this July.  They are created specifically to be shown in planetariums and make full use of the arenas' dome-like ceilings to present the viewer with an experience they can't get anywhere else.  There are also informational segments, apparently, that present the audience with fun facts about outer space and the stars in it.

Unfortunately I've never actually been to one of these shows.  I was actually in Japan when the first one came out but I didn't know about its existence until after I had already gone back home.  I was in America when the next two came out.  I was living in Japan again when the Best Wishes! one came out but I didn't do my research properly and so when I finally got around to visiting the planetarium the show had already been rotated out with another one.

The Space Debris

Information on the first three up there is almost impossible to come by since nobody who actually saw any of these specials back in the day bothered to post anything online about them.  I even looked on Yahoo! Auctions to see if anyone was selling any of the pamphlets that were given out at one of these shows, thinking that maybe those would have more information that could be useful for the site, but I came up with nothing.  If any of you out there know anything you can add about these specials then please, let me know.

I plan to write up my impressions of the upcoming XY special for the site when it comes out.  I'm a English speaking webmaster of a Pocket Monsters fansite who lives in Japan; it would be a waste if I didn't go.  The special comes out the same week as The Cocoon of Destruction and Diancie so I'll have to do my best to get my impressions of the special up before that movie comes out and give it the attention that it deserves.

Coming this summer!
May 24th, 2014

Dogasu @ 16:00 JST -- As hinted a few days ago, I've now gotten a page up for The Thieves and the Thousand Pokemon, the upcoming 3DS game that's going to be used to help promote this summer's movie The Cocoon of Destruction and Diancie.

The Thieves and the Thousand Pokemon

In other movie related news, I've translated the twelfth installment of Director Yuyama's Location Scouting diary.  In this week's post Mr. Yuyama and his crew head over to Niagra Falls to get ideas for this year's movie.

Niagra Falls

Oh yeah, and Pokémon Mega Evolution Special I is airing next weekend (May 31st) on Cartoon Network but you wouldn't know it because neither TPCI nor Cartoon Network has done anything to promote it.  Alan seems to be keeping his original name which should be a given but since we're dealing with TPCI and it was just as likely that they were going to rename him Jerry or something just because.

"The Early Morning Meteor Shower" CD Release
May 22nd, 2014

Dogasu @ 23:35 JST -- The ending theme to The Cocoon of Destruction and Diancie "The Early Morning Meteor Shower" was announced a while ago but details about its inevitable CD release haven't been made public.

Scandal

Well, last week the official website of Scandal, the group performing the ending song, posted details about the four (!) CDs they'll be releasing this July.  There's a "Pokemon Version," two versions with DVDs featuring concert footage (with each version containing different footage to coerce the Scandal otaku out there to buy both) and then a regular version.  The "Pokemon Version" is obviously the one you should be getting since it'll include a second Pocket Monsters song on it that the other versions do not but at this moment that second Pocket Monster song's title has not been revealed.  Will it be a brand new song?  A cover of an existing song?  We'll just have to wait and see!

Anyway, the CD Guide's been updated with all the information that's been revealed about these four CDs.

Pocket Monsters Special & "The Cocoon of Destrucion and Diancie"
May 21st, 2014

Dogasu @ 22:29 JST -- Two completely unrelated updates for you tonight!

A new chapter of Pocket Monsters Special was printed in the issue of CoroCoro Ichiban! that came out today so I've posted the usual summary up over in the Manga Guide.

CoroCoro Ichiban! July 2014

Next, in completely unrelated news...this year's movie!  When the voice actors for Pokemon the Movie XY "The Cocoon of Destruction and Diancie" were announced back in April information about Diancie's voice actor was conspicuously absent.  Well, earlier this week voice actor Matsumo Mika announced on her official blog that she will be voicing the titular pokemon and put an end to the speculation.

Matsumoto Marika Diancie

Ms. Matsumoto was the voice of Kanata in the Pocket Monsters Advanced Generation episodes "The Arrival in Minamo City!  Polocks and Tsubame Gaeshi!!" ("Pokéblock, Stock, and Berry") and "The Pokemon Contest!  The Minamo Convention!!" ("Lessons in Lilycove").  She was also the voice of Rikku in the video game Final Fantasy X and its various spin-offs.

Niagra-on-the-Lake

Finally, I've added translations of the tenth and eleventh entries to the Location Scouting reports.  In these episodes the location scouting team heads to the Toronto Eaton Center to buy Pokémon Y and then go over to Niagra-on-the-Lake to gather information for the movie.

I'll be adding infomation about the upcoming movie tie-in game The Thieves and the Thousand Pokemon within the next day or two.

More on "The Castle Beneath the Sea!  Kuzumo and Dramidoro!!"
May 21st, 2014

Dogasu @ 00:19 JST -- The timeline page for the skipped XY episode "The Castle Beneath the Sea! Kuzumo and Dramidoro!!" has been updated with the following:
I'll be sure to update the page with more as appropriate.

"The Cocoon of Destruction and Diancie" (Part One)
May 17th, 2014

Dogasu @ 11:06 JST -- The June 2014 issue of CoroCoro Comics came out the other day and included an 80 page manga adaptation of the first half of this summer's movie The Cocoon of Destruction and Diancie.  Out-of-context pages of the manga have been popping up online over the past week but no actual summary has appeared, as far as I've seen, so here you go:

The Cocoon of Destruction and Diancie

This first chapter is eighty pages long and covers quite a bit of ground so the summary's a bit on the long side.

As I've pointed out earlier, this year's manga adaptation is being done by a newcomer to the franchise Kitamura Kenji.  We don't have any sort of track record with him to go off of that allows us to predict if this adaptation is going to be a faithful one or not so please be aware of that as you read the summary.  Maybe the movie will unfold exactly the way it does in this manga?  Or maybe it's pulling a Deoxys manga on us and will be considerably different?  Either way we'll know for sure in July.

Part Two of the manga adaptation will be printed in the July 2014 issue of CoroCoro Comics which is going on sale a little bit early next month (June 13th instead of the 15th).  No word of a page count or anything like that yet.

"The Castle Beneath the Sea!  Kuzumo and Dramidoro!!"

May 14th, 2014

Dogasu @ 07:39 JST -- This took me a lot longer to complete than I thought, but here it is; my page devoted to the most recently skipped episode, "The Castle Beneath the Sea! Kuzumo and Dramidoro!!"

"The Castle Beneath the Sea! Kuzumo and Dramidoro!!"

Everything we know about the episode, from the time it was announced up until its postponement and beyond, has been documented here.  You can see image galleries of the two previews (one for the regular episode preview and one for the Pokemon Get ☆ TV preview) as well as whatever magazine scans / tweets I was able to dig up related to the incident.

The section will be updated as more information becomes available.

The new issue of CoroCoro Comics comes out tomorrow so I'll be updating my page on the manga adaptation of The Cocoon of Destruction and Diancie within the next few days.

Getting parts of the site up to date and oh yeah remakes
May 7th, 2014

Dogasu @ 23:55 JST -- I wanna get some of the more neglected sections of the site a little more up-to-date tonight.

The first volume of Pocket Monsters Special XY came out the other week so I've created a page detailing what chapters were included and what extra content there is inside.

Pocket Monsters Special XY Volume 1

In DVD news, the third Pokémon BW Rival Destinies box set has been announced for June 17th, 2014.  This box set will contain four discs instead of the usual two and will contain the final 25 episodes of the Rival Destinies season.  The MSRP on this set is $26.95 so you're looking at just a little over one dollar per episode.

Rival Destinies Set 3

Finally, in Video Games, I've finally gotten around to adding listings for Pokemon Battle Trozei and Pokemon Art Academy.  I've also updated the listings for the Smash Bros. games coming out for the 3DS and Wii U later this year.

Pokemon Battle Trozei Pokemon Art Academy

Oh yeah, and these games are coming out too.

Pocket Monsters Omega Ruby Pocket Monsters Alpha Sapphire

Well that's one New Year's prediction I got wrong.

"The Purr-fect Hero"
May 5th, 2014

Dogasu @ 23:23 JST -- It's Children's Day here in Japan, so let's all gather around and read the comparison for the Children's Day episode of Pocket Monsters, "The Purr-fect Hero."

"The Purr-fect Hero"

The episode didn't have anywhere near the number of edits that the Hinamatsuri episode had but there were still a fair number of changes.  I hope you enjoy!

Wrapping up "Pocket Monsters XY Pokemon - The Legend of the Ryuu-Oh"
May 4th, 2014

Dogasu @ 13:29 JST -- The final chapter of Pocket Monsters XY Pokemon - The Legend of the Ryuu-Oh was printed about two CoroCoros ago so it's probably about time I get around to posting the summary, isn't it?

Chapter Six

The graphic novel collection came out on March 25th so I went through the whole section for the manga and added little trivia tidbits / corrections from the collected volume.

Graphic Novel Collection

In movie news, I've translated the most recent Location Scouting report posted on the official website for The Cocoon of Destruction and Diancie.  In this week's installment Mr. Yuyama and his crew go to the St. Lawrence Market in Toronto.

Canadian McDonald's

Tomorrow is Kodomo no Hi (Children's Day) and my plan is to have the comparison for the Children's Day episode "The Purr-fect Hero" up before the end of the day.

The Cocoon of Destruction and Die-ahn-cee, apparently
May 2nd, 2014

Dogasu @ 08:08 JST -- Another week, another batch of movie updates for you guys.

The film's story synopsis has been updated with information about a newly revealed location in the film called the Allearth Forest.

Manga Adaptation

The manga adaptation of The Cocoon of Destruction and Diancie will start in the June 2014 issue of CoroCoro Comics, on sale May 15th.
Surprisingly, Inoue Momota (井上桃太), who has been in charge of the manga adaptations of the movies since The Master of Illusions, Zorro'ark back in 2010, will not be working on the Diancie movie manga.  It will instead be written and drawn by newcomer to the franchise Kitamura Kenji (北村謙次).  Ms. Inoue's adaptations tended to be faithful to the source material, more or less; will Mr. Kitamura's adaptation follow the movie as closely?

Diancie Distribution

Details about the Diancie distribution information we all knew was coming were revealed the other week.  What I noticed about the fine print over on the official site is that they make sure to mention that foreign copies (i.e. American copies) of XY cannot accept the Darkrai being offered as a pre-order bonus but don't say the same for Diancie.  Huh.  Diancie apparently also has the ability to corrupt your save file if you've used any sort of cheat devices on your game.

Guest Voice Actors

The special guest voice actors have been announced and I've created a page translating various statements they've made on the official website.

Night View

Finally, I've added translations of the latest Location Scouting reports to the Location Scouting page.

I wonder how long it'll be before I have to do another huge update like this?
