Song stuff
July 27th, 2009

Dogasu @ 03:33 AEST -- I have to say, Australia; your Internet sucks.  I genuinely feel sorry for all the Australian fans out there who have to put up with the country's BS bandwidth caps.

But enough of that.  Today, I have the revised lyrics for Kokoro no Antena.  You'll remember that I had posted the lyrics a few weeks ago based on transliterations some Japanese fans did after listening to the song many times but that I was unsure of the accuracy of said lyrics.  Well, I have since purchased the CD single and have gone back and made some corrections here and there.

And while I was at it, I went ahead and typed up the lyrics to the full version of Moeyo! Giza-Mimi Pichuu.  Sorry for being so late with that.

I'll be flying again at the beginning of August and will have an overnight layover at one of the airports, so I'll work on the translations for those songs at that time.

Finally, I've added a page detailing the differences between
Mizobuchi Makoto's comic adaptation of the third Diamond & Pearl movie and the film it's based on.  I'll have access to a scanner in the beginning of the month (I'm heading back to America on the 6th), so I'll be sure to go back to that page and add some images as soon as I can.

I don't know what my Internet access will be like in the coming week, so I may not be able to update again until the beginning of August.  Sorry about that.

A few more updates
July 24th, 2009

Dogasu @ 19:36 AEST -- Dogasu goes on vacation and still manages to update!?  What!?

I guess I'll start with the movie stuff.  This past weekend, Arceus - To the Conquering of Spacetime managed to come in second place in the box office, just behind the new Harry Potter movie.  Which had the advantage of opening a few days earlier, but whatever.  I also went in and added the cover art for the graphic novel release of the manga adaptation of said film.  The graphic novel came out on t
he 18th, but I wasn't able to pick it up before I left Japan.  But I'll be sure to grab a copy when I get back next month so I can write up a summary of the stuff that wasn't printed in CoroCoro Comics.

I've also updated the List of Anime Episodes with two new Japanese titles.

In DVD news, yet another eight discs in that Best Collection series in Japan has been announced for release in November.  These releases will bring the grand total of Diamond & Pearl episodes available on Region 2 DVD to fifty.  I've added these episodes to the So which episodes are available on DVD in Japan, anyway? page.

On the American side of things, a number of new discs have been announced.  The fifth and sixth volumes of Diamond & Pearl Battle Dimension have been announced, as well as the boxset collecting the two.  Each disc is listed as being 100 minutes long, which breaks down to about five episodes apiece, so it looks like Viz is decreasing the episode count with these.  After these discs come out, there will be eight episodes left in DP Battle Dimension - that includes the Riolu two-parter - for Viz to release.

In addition, the rest of the releases in the Pokémon Elements series has been announced.  I've also updated the cover art for the third and fourth volumes.

I've also corrected an error in the Recycled Characters section that was brought up by a user on the Facebook page.

More updates will come later in the weekend.

"Arceus - To the Conquering of Spacetime"
July 20th, 2009

Dogasu @ 09:40 JST -- Would you guys like some Arceus movie details?  Of course you would.

I've already posted my opinions about the movie on Bulbagarden, so I don't feel any need to repeat myself here.   So instead, let me just go over what's been updated on this site:
  • One little note about the solar eclipse was added to the "Notes" portion of the front page.
  • I've updated the information on the main page for the movie with the correct theme song listing.  The ending theme for the movie is not Kokoro no Antena, as we had been led to believe all this time; instead, it's Kokoro no Antena ~Haruomi Hosono Original Mix~.  The original Kokoro no Antena has a completely different feel to it that I, personally, happen to like more than the one used for the movie.
  • I've also added information for all of the voice actors credited at the end of the film, as copied from the pamphlet that was on sale at the theater after the show.
  • The Character Bios have all been updated.
  • I've updated the Soundtracks page with updated track listings for the High Touch! 2009 C/W Moeyo Giza-Mimi Pichuu! (it contains four background music tracks from the full soundtrack that's being released at the beginning of August) as well as the contents of the DVD that comes with the single for Kokoro no Antena.
I had meant to have more finished for you guys, but I've been busier this weekend than I expected.  I've got other pages I'll be working on in the next few days (differences between the comic and the movie, a summary of the tie-in chapter of Anakubo Kousaku's Pocket Monsters DP, translations of the movie's songs, etc.), so there's still a lot more to come!

I also went and added one new Japanese episode title to the List of Anime Episodes.

Also, I'm about to head on a plane for Australia.  I'll try my best to update the site during the two-ish weeks I'll be down there, but I, unfortunately, can't make any promises.  At the very least, I'll update the Facebook site with new tidbits, so go ahead and check that out if you haven't already.

Recycled Characters
July 17th, 2009

Dogasu @ 07:50 JST -- Hey, everyone.  Sorry for the lack of updates in a while; I've had a bunch of real life stuff getting in the way lately.  Boo.

Today's update consists of added content to the Recycled Characters pages.  I've made multiple additions and updates to the various pages, so be sure to check them out.  And if you know of any that I don't have listed, please feel free to let me know.

One new way you can do that is by following the link to my new Facebook page at the top of the main page there.  "But Dogasu, what's the point?"  Well, I thought it would be a way to open up another channel of communication between you guys and me.  I know that I tend to use my Facebook page to contact people way more than things like e-mail or Instant Messaging, and so the general assumption here is that some of you guys do as well.  The page will also allow me to post things that I maybe don't want to put on the main site (for whatever reason) or to send a quick note telling you guys about the status of future updates.

I've also updated the List of Anime Episodes with some new Japanese and English titles.  We're getting pretty close to the point in the series where the HD episodes start (August 22nd, by my calculations), and it'll be interesting to see how TPCI / Cartoon Network will handle the episodes.  Will they be aired in HD, like in Japan, or will they be cropped and aired in standard definition?  I really don't think we can make any educated guesses since we don't really have any precedent for this kind of thing, so I guess we'll just have to wait and see.

I've also updated the Video Games section with the release date for the WiiWare Pokemon Mysterious Dungeon games.

I'll end today's post with some news.  You may have remembered how, upon its release, Pocket Monsters Platinum became the fastest selling Nintendo DS at the time, selling nearly a million copies in two days.  I say "at the time" because the game has since been dethroned.  This weekend, a little game by the name of Dragon Quest IX managed to completely spank Platinum's previous record by selling over 2.24 million copies in just two days.  Wow.

I plan to pick up the CD single for Kokoro no Antena later tonight and then post the correct lyrics (with translation) to the song.  Arceus - To the Conquering of Spacetime will be coming out tomorrow, so I'll try to catch an early morning showing so that I can update the "differences between the anime and the manga" section of my DP Movie 03 page.

"Hypno's Naptime"
July 4th, 2009

Dogasu @ 15:25 JST -- When you read the comparison for "Hypno's Naptime," please note that I'm not actually ranting angrily like some deranged fanboy.  I actually think the episode is hilarious, for the reasons I get into in the actual comparison, but that may not come across so well with all the cursing and lack of emoticons.

This comparison is a perfect example of why I'm choosing to go back and redo all of these old Kanto comparisons instead of just going in and doing the ones that I never got around to doing.  I know I've said this before, but those old comparisons just flat-out suck.  Take a look at this paragraph from the original "Hypno's Naptime" comparison, for example:

You know the part when Satoshi looks at Hajime's (Arnold's) mom and is reminded of his own mom?  Well, the flashback is a flashback to Episode 18, which, at the time of this episode's broadcast, had been cut out.  It's kinda funny, seeing a flashback to an episode that hadn't been broadcast, but I guess 4Kids didn't feel like cutting it out.  I'm surprised 4Kids didn't replace it with scenes of Satoshi's mom from the first episode, as it would have been easy to do, but at the same time I'm relieved they didn't.  Maybe 4Kids thought it wasn't significant enough to bother changing?  Or maybe they had been planning on dubbing Episode 18 all along?

That, ladies and gentleman, is the reason I'm redoing these old comparisons.  Because of completely made-up bullshit like that.  I don't know what the hell was wrong with me when I last revised that page (March 2002), but I was pretty horrified when I dusted off that old page and found that little "gem" hidden in there.  Gah.

Anyway, enjoy the new, correct, not half-assed comparison for "Hypno's Naptime."  And feel free to leave feedback and all that.  I plan to update the Recycled Characters page soon, so be on the lookout for that early in the week.
