"The Lonely Snover!" August 24th, 2009 Dogasu @ 23:50 EDT -- Well, that took a while. Today, I've got a comparison for "The Lonely Snover!" up for you guys. Yes, I'm doing a non-Kanto episode, but I think the reason I stopped everything to do a comparison for this episode is fairly obvious. Just like I did with last year's "Cream of the Croagunk Crop!," I wanted to go ahead and kind of nip some things in the bud before wild speculation and rumors and accusations got too out of hand. I hope I'm able to help out in some way. I'm still working on the comparison for "The Punchy Pokémon," by the way. Haven't forgotten about that. I'll be hopping on a flight back to Japan on Thursday, but I hope to have an update for you guys before then. Random August 14th, 2009 Dogasu @ 10:23 EDT -- I've added the newest Japanese episode titles to the List of Anime Episodes. Hello, HeartGold and SoulSilver promotion! Speaking of the remakes...Uniqlo, a store I would describe as Japan's answer to Old Navy, will be releasing some new Pokemon T-shirts starting this month to commemorate the release of the new games. The ones that stand out the most, though, are the shirts available for men due out in September: There are a lot of other really cool designs shown here. I really like "subtle" nerd shirts like these, but since it's a Japanese clothing store, it'll be hard for me to find any that'll fit me. Not that I'm exceptionally big or anything - I fit comfortably into an American "Large" - it's just that Japanese clothes tend to come smaller because Japanese people tend to come smaller. In actual site update stuff (wait...what?), I've finally gotten a translation up for Kokoro no Antena. Also known as "the song that doesn't make any fucking sense." I tried - I really did! - to write a translation that was coherent and captured the spirit of the Japanese lyrics. But when I'm given a bunch of random nonsense about crossing a meadow in a boat and bangs blowing in the wind, there's only so much I can do. I don't "get" the whole Nakagawa Shouko thing. Taking a close look at one of her songs hasn't helped that at all. Also, look up the music video if you get a chance. It's just as random as the song it's promoting. One final note. I was going through storage the other day and found my old Game Boy Color and my copy of Pokémon Gold. So, I started a new game, just to re-familiarize myself with Jouto and the characters and all that. I'm also going through my Australian box sets and watching the Johto episodes (fact: I have seen less than half of Johto). I'm still not excited about the whole remake BS that Game Freak's doing, but I'm thinking that now's just as good a time as any to refresh my memory. I'm out of town for the weekend, but I'll still try to work on the new comparison I hinted at a few updates ago. I've already watched the episodes back to back and have taken all my notes, so all I've got left to do is to write everything up in an easy-to-follow, coherent way. In the meantime, check out that Bulbagarden thread and my Facebook page!! Arceus and the Jewel of Life? August 12th, 2009 Dogasu @ 00:29 EDT -- I'm sure you guys have all seen this by now: What you're looking
at is a screenshot from a trailer shown during the 62nd Annual
Locarno International Film Festival, currently wrapping up in the
Swiss-Italian town of Locarno. Long story short, it looks like
the English title for the third Diamond
& Pearl movie was revealed.
A 28-minute video showing the revelation, found at the 22:41 mark, can be found over on PokéBip. Some people are a bit skeptical about the legitimacy of the thing (why would an English title be made available this soon?), but there are a few things worth paying attention to:
The movie shows up on the program for the film festival as being shown on August 10th, 2009 at 11:00am and again on August 11th. Yet, as you can see, the movie is listed under its Japanese title, not the new English title. I'm assuming this is to let people know that they'll be showing a subtitled version of the film instead of an English dub. Now it's possible that "Arceus and the Jewel of Life" is just an international title being used as a temporary placeholder, kind of like how "Revelation Lugia" was the international title for the second movie. But at this point, I think it's safe to assume that this is the title that TPCI will end up using. And I mean, hey...if we can use a dub VA's website as a source for the title of the Giratina movie, I think a film festival screening is good enough for this one. In other news, the box office reports for the film's fourth week in Japan have been released, and the movie has dropped from the number two spot to the number four spot. Here's what the top ten looked like this week, according to Box Office Mojo:
The Japanese Yahoo! site lists a slightly
different order, however:
Regardless of which one's correct, one thing's for sure; the movie's starting to lose a bit of its steam. Back on American soil August 10th, 2009 Dogasu @ 00:15 EDT -- That dark, dark period of not having any reliable Internet is finally over. Australia was a lot of fun and I met a lot of really cool people there, but the trip had to come to an end sooner or later. While I was there, though, I did manage to pick up two of their really good DVD "Super Wallets." I'm not a fan of DVDs that only contain an edited-for-TV dub, but Manga Pacific (the guys who release the DVDs in Australia) could really teach Viz a thing or two. That overnight layover I was supposed to spend in an airport in Taiwan didn't end up happening (I went to a hotel instead), so I didn't have the free time to work on lyrics translations like I thought I would. I'll try to post those soon, though. Now, I'm back in America now for the remaining three weeks of my summer vacation, so my updates should hopefully be a lot more regular than they've been for the last few weeks. And now that I'm back home, I have access to things that I didn't have back in Japan. Like a scanner. So, I went into the "Pokémon Fashion Flash" comparison and provided an actual scan of the part from that Kids Pocket Books Pocket Monsters mentioning Okama-san's name. Before, I had a crappy digital camera shot, and I think that you'll agree with me that the new scan looks a lot better. Another thing I did was go into page for the Differences Between the Movie and the Comic for Arceus - To the Conquering of Spacetime and added a bunch of images. The manga images come from the chapters as printed in the CoroCoro magazines (hence the weird blue tint on most of them) while the screenshots from the movie were scanned from the pamphlet that's currently available for purchase at Japanese movie theaters. In non-scanner updates, I added some new dub titles to the List of Anime Episodes list. Looks like TPCI is skipping the clip show episode (as expected) and have finished dubbing the first episode to be produced in HD. I've also posted some more information about how the Arcues movie is doing at the box office over on the main Arceus - To the Conquering of Spacetime page. I'll be posting new Lyrics translations, more scans of various things (what do you guys want to see?), and a new comparison within the next week or so.
