The following is an image gallery that documents all of the edits made from the theatrical version of Mewtwo Strikes Back! to the Kanzenban version. Screenshots from the original theatrical version, taken from the Japanese LaserDisc release, are on the left while ones from the Kanzenban version, taken from the DVD release, are on the right. The sky during this whole fire sequence got recolored. I actually like the theatrical version better, though I can see why the animators may have thought a grey sky would have made the scene look less busy.

I would also like to point out that getting frame perfect shots of these fire scenes was extroadinarily time consuming due to the number of moving elements in each shot.

It looks like Mewtwo got recolored a bit as well.















Sakaki, now with an actual understanding of how light sources work! Mewtwo and the wires coming out of it have been redrawn as well.

What was a simple zoom-in effect in the original became a 3D computer generated background in the Kanzenban.
