![]() Black feels like he's on top of the world as his Pokabu defeats another wild pokemon. As he celebrates, his Mun'na wanders off. Suddenly, an unknown assailant attacks Black! When he comes to, he finds himself in the laboratory of Makomo-Hakase, one of Araragi-Hakase's friends from college. When Black announces that he needs to leave to go search for Mun'na, Makomo-Hakase decides to help him out since she just happens to need a Mun'na for her research on dream energy. Their search eventually leads them to the Site of Dreams. Inside, Black can spot members of the Plasma-Dan holding his pokemon captive! He tries to enter the abandoned factory to stop them, but the mysterious attacker from before prevents him from advancing. Luckily, Mun'na is able to wrestle itself free and attach itself to Black's head, enabling him to deduce that his opponent is a Meeruhog. Now that he can see his foe, Black sends all his pokemon out to take care of it. The Plasma-Dan grunts leave, promising to report what they saw to G'Cis. After the battle, Makomo-Hakase gathers some of Mun'na's "dream smoke." Black and White bid their new friend farewell as they head toward the next town. Notes about the English version Page 11, Panel Three and Page 20, Panel One: Viz refers to Makomo as "Professor Fennel" instead of just "Fennel" like she is in the English version of the games. The English dub of the TV series does something similar, calling her "Dr." Fennel. Page 21, Panel Six: The text behind Mun'na that says Pokemon Riigu Yuushou (ポケモンリーグ優勝), or "Win the Pokemon League" is upside down. In the English version, this same text has been flipped right side up. ![]()
![]() At the Cafe Soko in Shippou City, White's
gathered a crowd to hear a sales pitch for the BW Agency.
Unfortunately, Black starts shouting about his dream of entering the
Pokemon League and runs everyone off! The annoyed White decides
that Black needs lessons on marketing and takes him outside to practice
drumming up business. Black ends up being too shy to talk to
potential customers, so White takes over for him and convinces a
musician to join them on their next shoot. While they work, a
Zurug and Zuruzukin see the accordion the musician had left behind and
take
it! The director immediately blames Black, explaining that he's
the only one in the area at the time. In order to clear his
agency's name, Black begins to search for the real culprits.
Before long, he identifies the Zurug and Zuruzukin and lures them into
an
electrified web that Dentula had set up earlier. After returning
the accordion, Black tells White that he's going to head to the Shippou
City Gym to challenge Aloe, the Normal-type Gym Leader. When he
leaves, the director tells White that he's so impressed with her that
he wants her to join him in an important meeting.
Notes about the English version Unfortunately, I do not own the Japanese version of this chapter.
![]() Black makes his way through the Shippou City museum to face off against its Gym Leader. Aloe praises him for making it to her arena so quickly and decides to reward his efforts by sending out her first pokemon, Muland. Black responds by sending out Musha. After telling Black that her second pokemon will be Minezumi, Aloe decides to use her Muland's Roar technique to find out what her opponent's second pokemon is. Black's Musharna is replaced by his Wargle, catching the young trainer off-guard. As Muland attacks War over and over, Black realizes that the strategy he had come up with to defeat her has been ruined. Meanwhile, White has a meeting with the mayor of Raimon City to discuss ways to attract new tourists to the city. Much to White's surprise, the mayor loves her idea of starting up a series of Pokemon Musicals! Back at the Gym, Black uses Aloe's strategy against her by having War use Whirlwind to send Muland back into its Monster Ball. He then has War use Air Slash on Aloe's disoriented Minezumi, defeating Aloe's first pokemon in one blow. Can Black defeat Aloe's remaining pokemon and earn himself the Basic Badge? Notes about the English version Page Fifty, Panel 8: For some reason, Viz changes Aloe's laugh (アッ八ッ八ッ八!!) to "Oh, hello." Page Fifty-Four, Panels 1 and 3: Aloe's apron is removed from the English version. For some reason, the light (?) in the upper right-hand corner of the panel gets altered as well.
In the third panel, Aloe is throwing off her apron. In the English version, however, Lenora is just sort of posing oddly. ![]() Page 54, Panel One: Lenora tells Black that his arrival time of three minutes and 30 seconds is "The fastest record by far." Aloe, on the other hand, tells him that his arrival time may be the fastest on record (ダントツで新記録かもしれないねぇ!). Page 61, Panel One: Once again, "cafe SOKO" is changed to "Café Warehouse." ![]() Page 61, Panel Four: White identifies herself as the "president" of the BW Agency ("N-Nice to meet you! I'm White, president of BW Agency") in the English version while in the Japanese version, she calls herself the daihyou (代表), or "representative" of the company instead. Page 63, Panel Two: The mayor's "!?" is changed to "?" for the English version. No exclamation marks for you! Page 65, Panels Two, Three, and Four: Black's speech to Aloe has been pretty much rewritten here.
Page 66, Panel Two: Lenora says "But do you really think that frozen body has a snowball's chance in summer against my unscathed Stoutland?" Aloe says more or less the same thing in the Japanese version (that Black's pokemon has no chance against hers) only without the awkwardly censored idiom. |
