Mewtwo Strikes Back Evolution
Blu-ray / DVD announced for Japan
September 24th, 2019 Dogasu @ 21:47 JST -- The first details about the Japanese home video release for Mewtwo Strikes Back Evolution were announced by the movie's official website earlier today. The only real information we have at the moment is the release date - December 18th, 2019 - and the fact that there will be three versions released:
In the past, the on-disc special features for all the Blu-ray / DVD releases tended to include things like creditless opening / ending animations, character model sheets, concept artwork, promotional artwork, and a collection of all trailers for that year's film. The special edition / limited / custom / whatever naming they tend to go with that year, meanwhile, also tends to include a number of physical extras on top of everything else. Last year's special edition, for example, included a booklet, pouch, and set of postcards. No word yet on what special features will included in this release but the official site teases that the extras that'll come with the "custom limited edition" will be announced at a later date. Evolution
(ミュウツーの逆襲 EVOLUTION) is the 22nd Pocket
Monsters movie. The film was released on Friday, July 12th,
2019 in Japan and is part of a year-long campaign known as "The Year of
Mewtwo."
CoroCoro Online Interview - Shoko Nakagawa, Okazaki Physical Education, & Nicole Fujita September 21st, 2019 Dogasu @ 15:35 JST -- Following up from my previous post - by far my best performing post in months - I've got translations of the other three interviews posted by CoroCoro Online after the airing of last Sunday's episode. The first one is from Shoko Nakagawa. She's currently providing the ending theme to the Pocket Monsters Sun & Moon TV series, Type: Wild. She's also been voicing characters in every film since the 10th one and has provided a number of songs for the franchise over the years as well, her most recent being her collaboration with Sachiko Kobayashi on Kaze to Issho ni, the ending theme to Mewtwo Strikes Back Evolution. Next up is the singer who goes by the name Okazaki Physical Education. He sings the current opening theme to the Sun & Moon TV series, Kimi no Bouken ("Your Adventure") and has also provided ending themes for the Sun & Moon series in the past. Last up is Nicole Fujita, a model who sometimes appears on the weekly Pokemon variety show Pokénchi. She has the most tenuous connection to the franchise out of the three featured today. These interviews don't go into the same depth as Rica Matsumoto's did but I dunno, it's still nice to see what other people involved with the show have to say about Satoshi's momentous victory. CoroCoro Online Interview - Rica Matsumoto September 16th, 2019 Dogasu @ 19:19 JST -- So you may have heard that Satoshi was declared the winner of the Alola Pokemon League in the episode of Pocket Monsters Sun & Moon that aired last night, right? Well CoroCoro Online, the website for the magazine of the same name, posted a bunch of interviews with people connected with the show shortly after the episode aired to find out how they feel about this momentous occasion. The Rica Matsumoto interview is by far the most interesting of the bunch so I went ahead and translated it. The spoiler-filled interview goes over Ms. Matsumoto's feelings about finding out that Satoshi was going to actually win the Alola League, her most cherished memory of the last 22 years, and where she sees Satoshi going from here on out. I may translate the other interviews CoroCoro Online posted for completeness sake but the Rica Matsumoto one was the only one that has any sort of substance to it so it got top priority. CG World September 2019 September 15th, 2019 Dogasu @ 12:03 JST -- CGWORLD is a monthly magazine aimed at computer graphics and video content artists in Japan. Each month their print magazine contains a long-form feature or two about the making of a specific CG film / TV show / video game, interviews with various artists and animators, and information about various courses and resources available to aspiring CG artists. The September 2019 issue, released on August 10th, had a 10-page behind-the-scene feature on the animation of Mewtwo Strikes Back Evolution. Today's update looks at that feature. This isn't a translation - I simply don't have the time to translate a 10-page article filled with technical explanations - but is instead more of a bullet point like list of neat tidbits revealed in this feature. When did production start on the film? What software was used? How many staff members were assigned to a single model, and how long did it take them to finish it? There's a lot of great information in this article and I'm certain you'll learn a thing or two as you read it. Mewtwo Strikes Back

"Mewtwo Strikes Back Evolution" Full Staff List September 9th, 2019 Dogasu @ 5:58 JST -- The theatrical run of Mewtwo Strikes Back Evolution may be winding down but there's still more to cover! For today's update I give you something I've been working on for a long, long while; a complete transliteration of the movie's end credits. This is the first time I've done anything like this before for this site. It was a ton of work (a lot of which I did during downtime at my office job, but still) but I think it was worth it because it's information I haven't really seen posted anywhere else online. Unfortunately there's still the issue of not knowing how to a lot of the names are written out in our alphabet but hopefully some of you rock stars out there can reach out to me and let me know. If scrolling through a giant list of names isn't your thing then don't worry; my next update will be something a little more easy to read through. Mewtwo Strikes Back
