New Translation: From Yuyama to Yajima
September 7th, 2018

Dogasu @ 06:47 JST -- When the early promotional material for Pocket Monsters The Movie "Everyone's Story" first started coming out a lot of fans noticed that the director of the 21st film wasn't Kunihiko Yuyama, who's been directing every film since 1998's Pocket Monsters The Movie "Mewtwo Strikes Back," but was instead Tetsuo Yajima. The media news website Mantan Web posted an article about this change so I've decided to translate it for all of us.

The reason why he said “New Director, I Choose You!” The real story behind the “Baton Pass” from director Yuyama to director Yajima

In the article titled (*deep breath*)
The reason why he said “New Director, I Choose You!” The real story behind the “Baton Pass” from Director Yuyama to Director Yajima, Mr. Yuyama and Mr. Yajima talk about their history with the franchise, why Mr. Yuyama chose Mr. Yajima as his successor, and what Mr. Yajima can bring to the table. It also heavily implies that this "Baton Pass" isn't just a one-off event and that the 66 year old Mr. Yuyama has stepped down as a Pocket Monsters director altogether.

As always, let me know what you think of this translation and let me know if you'd like to see more content like this in the future!

Unshou Ishizuka's successor for Dr. Ookido, Principal Ookido named
September 3rd, 2018

Dogasu @ 22:53 JST -- TV-Tokyo has announced that veteran voice actor Kenyuu Horiuchi (堀内 賢雄) will be taking over the role of Dr. Ookido and Principal Ookido in the Pocket Monsters Sun & Moon TV series following the passing of Unshou Ishizuka last month. Mr. Horiuchi's debut episode will air on Sunday, October 21st, according to the network.

Ookidos

Kenyuu Horiuchi previously played Dr. Araragi's father in the Pocket Monsters Best Wishes! TV series and narrated some of the Pokemon Side Story (commonly referred to in the West as the Hoso specials, or Chronicles) episodes. The 61 year old has been voice acting since the early 1980s and has appeared as Mashymre Cello in Mobile Suit Gundam ZZ, Fond de Veau in Croket!, Yahiko in Naruto Shippuden, and Unberto Mori in Godzilla: Planet of the Monsters, among others. He's also known for doing a lot of foreign movie dubs and is often called upon to provide the Japanese dub voice for characters played by such actors as Brad Pitt, Ben Affleck, and Ben Stiller.

The network has not made any announcement regarding who will be taking over as the narrator, Yaregutan,
Mamane's Denjimushi, or any of the other dozens of pokemon voiced by the late Unshou Ishizuka.
