Pocket Monsters the Movie "I Choose You!" Blu-ray and DVD release
September 26th, 2017

Dogasu @ 7:50 JST -- Information about the Japanese Blu-ray and DVD release of Pocket Monsters the Movie "I Choose You!" has been announced.

Pocket Monsters the Movie "I Choose You!"

No cover art has been released yet but thanks to Amazon Japan listings we know that three different versions are set to come out on December 20th, 2017;
a DVD release (MSRP 3,980 yen), a standard Blu-ray release (MSRP 4,980 yen), and a "Perfect Limited Edition" Blu-ray release (MSRP 6,480 yen). That last one, according to Animate-Online Shop, includes the HD remaster of the first episode of the original Pocket Monsters TV series, "I Choose You!," as an extra, though it's unclear if this is going to be the 2012 remaster or the 2017 one. Other on-disc extras, which all three releases will have, include:
  • Creditless opening
  • Creditless ending
  • Character model sheets
  • Production artwork
  • Promotional artwork gallery
  • Collection of trailers for the film
Japanese DVDs are Region 2 so if you're in the U.S. or Europe the disc will not normally play in a standard DVD player (but also, it's 2017 and there are a million ways around that). Japanese Blu-rays, on the other hand, are Region A, same as North America, so if you live in the U.S. or Canada you can just pop the Japanese Blu-ray into your Blu-ray player and enjoy the movie no problem.

Pocket Monsters The Movie "I Choose You!" is the 20th Pokemon movie and is now playing in Japan. The English dub, titled Pokémon The Movie "I Choose You!" will have a limited theatrical run in the U.S. on November 5th and 6th, 2017.

"The Pi-Kahuna"
September 24th, 2017

Dogasu @ 15:10 JST -- The second episode to take place in Binnes Seafoam Island is the topic of this week's Kanto2017 comparison, "The Pi-Kahuna."

"The Pi-Kahuna"

Luckily the script isn't so bad, especially compared to the last few episodes, so it's a bit of a short comparison. In other news I made myself sit through a terrible Gary Busey movie while doing research for this one so I hope you all  appreciate the effort being put into these things lol.

Next week I'll have the comparison for "Make Room for Gloom" ready, an episode that features some really strange digital paint edits. Look forward to it!

"The Evolution Solution"
September 21st, 2017

Dogasu @ 23:28 JST -- I'm finally all caught up! Here's the brand new comparison for "The Evolution Solution."

"The Evolution Solution"

The English dub of this episode is the source of a lot of misinformation that's been cycling around the interwebs all these years so I hope you enjoy reading about all the weird script changes in this one! I'm really excited to hear what you all think about this one in particular.

On Satuday we'll be back to our regularly schedule with the release of "The Pi-Kahuna."

"Showdown at the Po-ké Corrall"
September 18th, 2017

Dogasu @ 18:15 JST -- Today I have the revamped comparison that was originally scheduled to go up on September 9th, "Showdown at the Po-ké Corrall."

"Showdown at the Po-ké Corral"

I ended up redoing a lot more of this comparison than I had anticipated so I hope you're able to take the time to read through what I've written!

Next up will be the comparison for "The Evolution Solution," an episode I've never covered on this site before! My goal is to have it up within the next few days (I'm very close to being finished with it) so that by the time this Saturday comes around I'll be able to get back on schedule and post the comparison for
"The Pi-Kahuna."

"Snow Way Out!"
September 16th, 2017

Dogasu @ 17:23 JST -- The revamped comparison for "Snow Way Out" is now available!

"Snow Way Out"

I actually a fairly major discovery about Musashi's mother while redoing this comparison that caused me to have to rewrite large portions of it so I hope you take the time to re-read this one!

I've got two more comparisons to do before I'm all up to date with my Kanto2017 schedule and will do my best to get the revamped version of "Showdown at the Poké-Corral" and a brand new comparison for "The Evolution Solution" up as soon as I can.

Movie 20 Japanese Box Office Performance, Week Nine
September 14th, 2017

Dogasu @ 7:57 JST -- It took nine weeks but Pocket Monsters the Movie "I Choose You!" has finally fallen out of the Japanese Top Ten.

Since the movie is no longer on the charts none of the entertainment sites I've come across are bothering to report the film's current earnings or even what place it ended up reaching. So, all I can do is report on what the Top Ten looked like for the weekend of September 9th to September 10th:

"Holiday Hi-Jynx"
September 11th, 2017

Dogasu @ 7:45 JST -- Sorry for the wait! The revamped comparison for "Holiday Hi-Jynx" is now up!

"Holiday Hi-Jynx"

And if you haven't seen it before, be sure to check out the massive image gallery I've made featuring over 180 screenshots showing how Japan edited the original version of the episode to recolor Rougela from black to purple!

Movie 20 Japanese Box Office Performance, Week Eight
September 7th, 2017

Dogasu @ 7:24 JST -- Let's check out how is Pocket Monsters the Movie "I Choose You!" did in Week 8 in theaters.

Pocket Monsters The Movie "I Choose You!"

For the weekend of September 2nd to September 3rd, this year's Pocket Monsters dropped down to eighth place. The film has brought in 3,310,203,600 yen so far, according to Cinema Today.

The rest of the charts barely moved at all, with the Top 7 being exactly the same as the previous week. Newcomer Mobile Suit Gundam The Origin V Clash at Loum debuted at Number 8 which is actually really impressive when you consider it was only screened in 36 theaters nationwide . The Japanese release of the 2016 Jackie Chan / Johnny Knoxville film Skiptrace slid in at Number 10. And with Mary and the Witch's Flower out of the Top Ten, Pocket Monsters The Movie "I Choose You" is now the oldest film currently on the Japanese film charts.

Movie 20 Japanese Box Office Performance, Week Seven
September 3rd, 2017

Dogasu @ 10:41 JST -- I want to start off by apologizing for the delay in getting the scheduled #Kanto2017 comparisons out on time. Part of it is due to me grossly underestimating how much work the retweak of the comparison for "Holiday Hi-Jynx" would take while another part is just how much overtime I've been having to put in at work lately. I'm doing my best to get things back on schedule and hope you'll continue to bear with me for just a little while longer.

In the meantime, let's check out how is Pocket Monsters the Movie "I Choose You!" did in its seventh week in theaters.

Sekigahara
Despicable Me 3 Wonder Woman

For the weekend of August 26th to August 26th, this year's Pocket Monsters dropped down to eighth place. According to Cinema Today the film has been watched by 2,723,838 people and has made 3,184,546,100 yen in ticket sales so far. For comparison's sake, 2014's Pokémon the movie XY "The Cocoon of Destruction and Diancie" & "Pikachu, What is This the Key To?" only managed to bring in 2.91 billion yen during its entire theatrical run and 2013's Pocket Monsters Best Wishes! The Movie "The Extreme Speed Genosect and the Awakening of Mewtwo" & "Pikachu and its Eevee Friends" brought in 3.17 billion yen altogether. So in other words, I Choose You! is the best performing Pocket Monsters movie since the Best Wishes! days and it still has a few more weeks to go.

Looking at rest of the charts, Sekigahara, a movie centered around the real world Battle of Sekigahara, came in first. Second place went to Despicable Me 3 and third place went to Wonder Woman, which only just came out in Japan last weekend and has generated some bad press overseas for its incredibly tone deaf new image song.
