Commemoration of the Broadcast of the 1000th Episode of the Pocket Monsters TV Series!
October 24th, 2017

Dogasu @ 07:31 JST -- The other week it was announced that the Pocket Monsters TV series will be celebrating the broadcast of its 1000th episode on November 9th, 2017!

1000 episodes

For years I've been saying that I didn't think the TV series was going to do anything special for the milestone as I didn't think they were even keeping track but it looks like I was wrong! As best as I can figure, the staff arrived at the 1000 episode number like this:

Series
Number of Episodes
Notes
Original Series
276
Includes "Cyber Soldier Porygon," "Rougela's Christmas," and "Iwark the Bivouac."
Advanced Generation
192
Does not include the unaired episode "The Battle of the Shaking Island! Dojoach vs Namazun!!" or any of the Side Story ("Chronicles") episodes.
Diamond & Pearl
193
Includes the two specials that aired after the start of Best Wishes!; "Hikari - A New Journey!" & "The Greatest Crisis in the Nibi Gym's History!"
Best Wishes!
144
Does not include the unaired "The Rocket-Dan vs. the Plasma-Dan!" Parts One or Two but does include "Dent and Takeshi! Gyarados' Imperial Wrath!!" and "Iris vs. Ibuki! The Road to Being a Dragon Master!!"
XY(&Z)
146
The four Mega Evolution specials are counted in this total. Also included is the Pikachu movie episode, "The Legend of XYZ!" and "The Ultimate Duo! Citron and Dent!!"
Sun & Moon
49
The episode that airs on November 9th will be Sun & Moon episode 049.

If you do the math, 276 + 192 + 193 + 144 + 146 + 49 = 1000.

To commemorate the occasion, a special event will be held at the fountain square on the B1 floor of Sunshine City in Ikebukuro, Tokyo on Saturday, November 11th. Satoshi's voice actress Rika Matsumoto will be at the event in addition to other guests who will be revealed at a later date. A start time has not been revealed. It has also been announced that comedian Sunshine Ikezaki will voice a character in an upcoming episode of Sun & Moon to commemorate the 1000th episode milestone.

Pokemon Center stores across Japan will also begin carrying 1000th episode merchandise from November 3rd to December 24th, 2017 as part of its "Celebrate!
Commemoration of the Broadcast of the 1000th Episode of the TV Series Pika-Pika Winter Vacation (祝!アニメ1000回放送記念 ピカピカ冬休み) campaign.

Winter Vacation

In addition to limited edition merchandise being sold during this time, customers will get one of three clear files at random
for every 3000 yen they spend on Sun & Moon merchandise. These clear files cannot be purchased on their own.

Clear Files

TV-Tokyo has put up a special website for the event that will be updated with more information as we get closer to the November 9th airing.

"To Master the Onixpected"
October 23rd, 2017

Dogasu @ 00:17 JST -- It's a bit late but today I have the revamped comparison for "To Master the Onixpected."

"To Master the Onixpected"

The episode features the first time a member of the Elite Four's ever shown up in the TV series, something you would think would end up being a big deal but actually doesn't amount to a whole lot at the end of the day. Womp womp.

Next week's episode is
"The Ancient Puzzle of Pokémopolis," a weird story about two ancient pokemon battling one another for reasons that aren't entirely made clear. See you then!

"Go West, Young Meowth"
October 21st, 2017

Dogasu @15:25 JST -- The final revamp comparison of #Kanto2017 is here! Check out the redone version of my episode comparison for "Go West, Young Meowth."

"Go West, Young Meowth"

There are some rather significant changes to the script of "Go West, Young Meowth" so if you haven't read about what all's been altered then please do yourself a favor and check it out.

The comparison for "To Master the Onixpected" is supposed to come out today but I'm going to have to ask for a little bit more time before having that one ready to post. Please bear with me just a little longer!

"Lights, Camera, Quacktion"
October 11th, 2017

Dogasu @07:44 JST -- Sorry for being late but here's the new comparison for "Lights, Camera, Quacktion."

"Lights, Camera, Quacktion"

Part of what took me so long to post this is the fact that this episode had a lot of rewrites and is therefore quite long. Hope you enjoy!

This weekend I'll be posting the revamped comparison for "Go West, Young Meowth." Something exciting about this one is that this will be the very last revamp comparison in this #Kanto2017 project; everything else from here on out will be episodes that have never been covered before!

Ryuji Saikachi, 1928 - 2017
October 3rd, 2017

Dogasu @07:20 JST -- Anime News Network has reported that Ryuichi Saikachi (槐 柳二), a veteran voice actor of 60 years, passed away on September 29th of congestive heart failure. He was 89 years old.

Ryuji Saikachi

Mr. Saikachi appeared in countless TV series and movies during his 60 year career. A small sample of some of his most famous roles include Mister "Rerere" in Tensai Bakabon, the old engineer in Hayao Miyazaki's Castle in the Sky, Dai Kaiou in Dragon Ball Z,
Dr. Ichigaki in Yu Yu Hakusho, and Rafiki in the Japanese dub of The Lion King.

Old Man Gon

In Pocket Monsters, Mr. Saikachi appeared in a 2000 episode of the original Pocket Monsters TV series entitled "Hellgar and Togepi!" as
Old Man Gon (ゴン爺), a Mareep farmer who also trains the titular Hellgar.

I hope you'll join me in wishing condolences to Mr. Saikachi's family. May he rest in peace.

"Make Room for Gloom"
October 2nd, 2017

Dogasu @ 22:27 JST -- The longest ever April Fool's prank in this site's history continues with a brand new comparison for the episode "Make Room for Gloom."

"Make Room for Gloom"

The episode has approximately eight billion rewrites and some really weird paint edits so there's quite a bit to talk about with this one!

This weeked\nd I'll post the comparison for "Lights, Camera, Quacktion!", an episode all about inter-species romance. Look forward to it!
