Dogasu @ 21:19 JST -- The final Pokemon Radio Show! The Rocket-Dan's Secret Empire CD came out today, so I've added the cover art (which I had to scan myself since no online retailer anywhere had it up) and a track listing for it to the CD Guide.
This is a weird little two-disc set. Disc One has a grand total of one track (it's the twelve minute interview with Konishi Katsuyuki from the unaired pilot) while Disc Two is a data CD packed with twenty-two mp3 files clocking in at about four and a half hours. And since that second disc is a data CD, it can't be played on a regular CD player like all the other Pokemon Radio Show CDs can.
What's more, the interviews with Kobayashi Sachiko from Vol. 06 and Tsubaki Ayana from Vol. 26 aren't on that second disc. The stuff from the "takeover" halfway through the series - Yamato and Kosaburou interviewing Hayashibara Megumi and Shin'ichirou Miki and Satoshi interviewing Kasumi - are predictably missing as well. So close, yet so far.
Despite all this, though, it's sad to think that this is the last Pokemon Radio Show! The Rocket-Dan's Secret Empire CD there is for us to buy right now. All that's left is to wait and hope that Mr. Mima changes his mind about being too busy to work on a Season Two this year.
Speaking of the radio show, now's as good a time as any to point out that the official Animate site finally got around to doing their write-up of the Rocket-Dan's Secret Live event that took place back in March. I've gone through their three page write-up and updated my write-up of the Secret Live with some of the clarifications that their write-up offers.
The next issue of Pokemon Fan comes out tomorrow, so with any luck I'll be able to pick it up and have a summary of the new Pocket Monsters Special chapter up at some point during the day.
Mewtwo Monday Week Two: "The Birth of Mewtwo"

Dogasu @ 23:45 JST -- The second of the site's "Mewtwo Mondays" is here, so let's take a look at the radio drama The Birth of Mewtwo.
The radio drama, which was created to help promote the movie Mewtwo Strikes Back, takes a much closer look at the origins of the movie's titular character as well as that of the world of pokemon as a whole. It's also probably one of my favorite stories in the entire franchise. I love updates where I get to learn all sorts of new stuff and this is definitely one of them. I hope you guys have as much fun going through this as I did making it.
I've also written up a lengthy summary of the radio drama separate from the main radio drama page because of how freaking long it is. I tried to make the whole thing as easy to read as possible and avoid presenting you guys with this massive wall of text, so hopefully some of that shines through. It was tempting to just post a link to a translation of the radio drama and be done with it, but all the sites I found with translations also just up and offered the entire CD for download, and I have some real problems with that.
Speaking of CDs, a CD single for Daisuke's Summerly Slope, the current ending theme to Pocket Monsters Best Wishes! Season 2 Decolora Adventures, was announced for a July 3rd release date. The CD Guide's been updated accordingly.
For my third "Mewtwo Monday," I'll be taking a look at The Kanzenban, the special version of the first movie made for the North American release of Pokémon The First Movie. What is this Kanzenban, exactly, and how is it different from the regular version of the movie? Find out next week!

Dogasu @ 06:43 JST -- Two new pieces of news, one kind of "meh" and one that's incredibly disappointing.
First, the "meh" one. You guys know Shiritsu Ebisu Chuugaku, the girl group who's been doing the last two ending themes for Best Wishes! and who will also be doing the ending theme for Pikachu and the Eevee Friends, right? Well, starting with the episode of Pocket Monsters Best Wishes! Season 2 Decolora Adventure that's airing tonight, the ending theme Te o Tsunagou will get a new video featuring the nine member girl group dressed up like the Eevee evolutions. According to the announcement made on the movie's official site, the new video will end with animated versions of the Shiritsu Ebisu Chuugaku girls draw in the Pocket Monsters animation style.
The nine-member group will also appear on the May 26th episode of Pokemon Smash! to perform (the full version of?) Te o Tsunagou.
Speaking of Pokemon Smash!, they'll be airing the first full minute of the Pikachu short on this week's episode. That's pretty cool.
The other big (sad, depressing, disappointing) news story is that, according to a tweet made by sound director Mima Masafumi, the chances of there being a second season of Pokemon Radio Show! The Rocket-Dan's Secret Empire this year are pretty slim.
So apparently, despite all that talk about there being the possibility of there being a second season starting up this summer if there's enough demand for it, the answer is...no. Not this year, anyway. Mr. Mima gives the "we're all very busy this year" line, which is understandable, I guess (this is the year that a brand new generation is going to be launching, after all), but it's still incredibly disappointing for us Rocket-Dan fans. What are the chances of there being a Season 2 in 2014, 2015, or beyond? Way, way slimmer than the chances of there being one the year after the first season debuted, I would think. I have to wonder if the CDs didn't sell as well as they had hoped, or what their expectations for those even were in the first place. The Rocket-Dan's Secret Live event was packed, so I think that at least shows that there's interest in the radio show, but I guess that wasn't enough?
And not to end this post on a downer, there's this.
Pocket Monsters Special

Dogasu @ 23:17 JST -- A new issue of CoroCoro Ichiban! came out today, which of course also means that a new chapter of Pocket Monsters Special is out as well. Here's my summary of what happens.
This is probably the most action-packed chapter of the the Black & White saga. Can't wait to see how this all gets wrapped up!
I've also added two new Japanese titles to the List of TV Episodes.
Mewtwo Monday Week One: "Mewtwo Strikes Back" page revamp

Dogasu @ 21:42 JST -- This is something I've been wanting to do for a while, and with (a) Mewtwo being in this summer's movie now seemed like the perfect opportunity to revisit all the old Mewtwo stuff that's out there. I'm calling this "Mewtwo Monday."
The idea is that every Monday from now until the July 13th release of The Extreme Speed Genosect and the Awakening of Mewtwo, I'll dig back and post a Mewtwo-related update. Let's get this started:
This week, I've completely revamped the page for the first movie, Mewtwo Strikes Back / Pikachu's Summer Vacation. And when I say completely revamped, I mean I pretty much rewrote that entire page from the ground up. There's lots of trivia over in the "Notes" section - trivia I'm sure a lot of you will be hearing here for the first time - a detailed look at the various home releases the movie and the Pikachu short that accompanied it have gotten over the years, detailed staff credits and cast information, box office figures, what little information I could find on Ono Toshihiro's manga adaptation of the movie, and information on the movie's soundtrack releases.
Let me know what you think via Facebook, Twitter, and / or that thread on Bulbagarden! Next Monday I'll post a detailed look at the radio drama The Birth of Mewtwo and the animated adaptation of that radio drama.

Dogasu @ 15:30 JST -- There are three random tidbits about the upcoming movie that I want to go ahead and get out of the way.
First, it was announced on Wednesday that Yoshioka Kiyoe, the vocalist for Ikimono Gakari and the woman whose voice you'll hear performing the movie's end theme Egao, has just wrapped up recording the voice of Eevee in this year's movie. I assume she's doing the voice of the Eevee in the Pikachu short Pikachu and the Eevee Friends, but the article posted on the official site only mentions the main feature, The Extreme Speed Genosect and the Awakening of Mewtwo. Weird.
Ms. Yoshioka had this to say about her gig, which is her first time doing any sort of animation voiceover work, on the movie's official website:
I thought it was weird that the limited edition version of her group's CD single for the movie's theme song was going to come with a Pokemon Tretta puck, but the official site reveals that it'll be a special Eevee puck so I guess that doesn't seem so random now.
Second, this past Sunday's episode of Pokemon Smash! reveals that Heisei Nobushi Kobushi members Yoshimura Takashi (Eric) and Tokui Kenta (an Ishitsubute in Pokemon Hills) haven't actually been in the recording booth to record their characters' part yet. For those of you who don't know, the voices in Japanese animation tend to be recorded after the animation's finished as opposed to the Western style of recording all the voices first and then doing the animation. Yoshimura Takashi's apparently only dubbed that one line his character has in the trailer, but other than that it seems like they're still waiting to be called into the studio. I imagine they're still waiting on the animation to come back completely finished and edited together before they bother recording anything.
Finally, I got my pre-order ticket (yay!) and noticed that the movie summary on the inside of the pamphlet they give you telling you how to download Mewtwo states that Genosect communicates to our heroes through telepathy.
Based on the way the word balloons in the manga adaptation were written, I assumed the Genosect were actually saying all their dialogue out loud, but I guess not! It doesn't really matter much at the end of the day, but it's nice to be able to confirm this anyway.
That super secret project I've been teasing about for a while is going to start this coming Monday.

Dogasu @ 06:48 JST -- Here's the summary for the second chapter of the manga adaptation of The Extreme Speed Genosect and the Awakening of Mewtwo!
Reading this chapter was kind of weird because I'm making this effort to read all of Mewtwo's dialogue in Takashima Reiko's voice (in my head, of course; please don't imagine me as some insane person who reads manga out loud to himself while putting on character voices) but I can't help myself from reading it in Ichimura Masachika's voice instead. Also, because I know some of you will ask; no, neither the Plasma-Dan nor the Rocket-Dan are mentioned in this chapter as well.
The third and final chapter to be released before the movie hits theaters will come out in the July 2013 issue of CoroCoro Comics, on sale June 15th.
New pokemon

Dogasu @ 06:58 JST -- Four new pokemon were leaked over the weekend, so I thought I'd give this coverage that special Dogasu's Backpack flavor and examine these names' origins:
I've also updated the Video Games section with information about Pokemon Tretta Lab for Nintendo 3DS, the sort-of kind-of not really home port of the popular arcade game Pokemon Tretta!
The actual arcade games themselves are only like three feet tall and are always in the kid sections of most department stores, so I've always felt too awkward to try it out. I don't wanna be like these guys, y'know? A bunch of the magazines I've bought over the years have come packaged with Pokemon Tretta pucks, so I think I've actually amassed a decent enough collection at this point without even trying. The game comes out August 10th.
I'll start working on the summary of the second chapter of the The Extreme Speed Genosect and the Awakening of Mewtwo manga as soon as I get this month's issue of CoroCoro Comics.
Pocket Monsters Special

Dogasu @ 06:56 JST -- Today's update is me catching up on last month's Pocket Monsters Special chapters.
In addition, the current issue of Pokemon Fan comes with a calendar that announces when the next two issues of this "let's just put this thing out whenever we feel like it and then never bother to tell anybody" publication come out. Issue 30 will go on sale June 1st and Issue 31 will go on sale July 1st.
I've also added a short bio about Eric, the new human character who will debut in this year's movie The Extreme Speed Genosect and the Awakening of Mewtwo because, whoops, I forgot that I hadn't actually gotten around to making one for him yet.
Also, secret project update: I'm about 85% done with it? I've been working on it every single day for the past week or so, which means that hopefully I'll be able to have it up before the end of the weekend. I can't wait for you guys to see it!!

New pokemon

Dogasu @ 06:58 JST -- Four new pokemon were leaked over the weekend, so I thought I'd give this coverage that special Dogasu's Backpack flavor and examine these names' origins:
- Yancham (ヤンチャ
ム) is most likely from yancha (やんちゃ), or "naughty," which
makes sense seeing as how it's classified as the "naughty pokemon"
(やんちゃポケモン). The final "mu" there probably comes from yum
cha (飲茶), a type of Chinese tea. This tea is also what the Dragon Ball character Yamcha is
named after, a fact that Japanese fans all over the Internet have been
having
fun with by drawing fanart of this panda pokemon in various scenes from
the
manga / TV series.
- Gogoat (ゴーゴート) is, obviously, a combination of the
English words "go" and "goat." Pretty straightforward.
- Elikiter (エリキテル) seems to be a
combination of erimakitokage
(エリマキトカゲ), the Japanese name for the frill-necked
lizard, and erikiteru
(エレキテル), or elekiter, a type of
generator used in the 18th century to conduct static electricity. And in case you're
wondering why the frill-necked lizard is called erimakitokage in
Japanese, check
this page out.
- Yayakoma (ヤヤコマ) seems to come from komadori (コマドリ), or Japanese Robin.
I'm not really sure what the "yaya" part comes from, unfortunately.

In addition, the current issue of Pokemon Fan comes with a calendar that announces when the next two issues of this "let's just put this thing out whenever we feel like it and then never bother to tell anybody" publication come out. Issue 30 will go on sale June 1st and Issue 31 will go on sale July 1st.
I've also added a short bio about Eric, the new human character who will debut in this year's movie The Extreme Speed Genosect and the Awakening of Mewtwo because, whoops, I forgot that I hadn't actually gotten around to making one for him yet.
Also, secret project update: I'm about 85% done with it? I've been working on it every single day for the past week or so, which means that hopefully I'll be able to have it up before the end of the weekend. I can't wait for you guys to see it!!

Dogasu @ 09:38 JST -- Are you on Facebook? How about Twitter? Are you following Dogasu's Backpack on either one of those services? No? Then what are you waiting for? In addition to posting on both of those whenever I update the site, I also use them to talk about various other things about the franchise that maybe don't make it to the site proper, like pictures of cool things I buy or my embarrassing attempts at communicating to Japanese fans in their native language.
