Victini and the Black Hero, Zekrom - Chapter Three
July 13th, 2011

Dogasu @ 23:08 JST --  Here's the summary for the third chapter of the manga adaptation of Victini and the Black Hero, Zekrom!  This should have been up when it came out almost a month ago, but at least it's up before the movie's July 16th premiere date.  That's gotta count for something...right?

Victini and the Black Hero, Zekrom

The graphic novel collection of this is scheduled to come out on July 30th.

The actual movies come out this weekend, and yes, I do plan to see both of them.  I'm not doing it on the same day, of course, because I don't want to get burned out on these movies and end up hating them.  But I'll see them both soon enough.  I'll probably watch the Zekrom movie first just because it'll be the one I'm most familiar with, though the pre-order ticket I got is good for either film so I have the option of changing my mind at the last minute if I want.

The final Aloe gallery
July 5th, 2011

Dogasu @ 00:56 JST --  I finished the final Aloe gallery!  In total, I ended up taking 98 screencaps (49 before and 49 after) to make this update possible.  You can view the image gallery here, here, here, here, here, here, and here.

In other Aloe news, the rental DVD with the first Aloe episode on it came out the other day.  And, oddly enough, it contains the unedited version of the episode!  The reason I say "oddly enough" is because the last time something like this happened, the unedited version wasn't made available in Japan.  I just assumed that the unedited version was going to be de-existed just like the Hiroki version of the Gureggru episode was, but I guess not.  Maybe the fact that there aren't really any legal issues surrounding Aloe's old design is what's making the difference here?  *shrugs*

To all you guys and gals out there in places that don't receive the English dub, what version of these episodes are you getting?  The apron one or the apron-less one?

Miscellany
July 1st, 2011

Dogasu @ 00:30 JST --  No new comparison yet!  But, I figure if I keep doing these small, regular updates, I'll get to it sooner rather than later.  Let's see if that works out.

First, I've updated the List of TV Episodes.  The Team Rocket vs. Team Plasma episodes are being skipped in the dub, which was the most predictable thing ever, but I still feel obligated to put that out there for some reason.

I've also updated the Differences Between Victini and the Black Hero, Zekrom & Victini and the White Hero, Reshiram page with some information posted in the issue of CoroCoro Comics Special that came out today.  Expect that page to get a major update once the movie actually comes out in just a few weeks.

Speaking of that movie, is anyone else reading this living in Japan and planning to go see it?  If so, which version?  I think those of us who are in the country should make an effort to coordinate things so we can give everyone else a much better idea of what these two movies are like.  It would suck if everyone just watched one version but not the other, right?

So every year, I like to take a look at what else is coming out in theaters the same weekend as the new Pocket Monsters movie to see what the competition looks like.  I haven't yet had a chance to do that this year, so here goes:
  • Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows - Part 2, the eighth and final Harry Potter film.
  • Naked Boyz Short Movie Vol. 1, a movie done by the comedy troupe of the same name.
  • Peace, a documentary about an elderly Japanese couple who takes in stray cats.  It's won a ton of awards at various film festivals.
  • Devil, an M. Night Shyamalan thriller that came out in the U.S. in 2010.
  • Kokuriko Zakara, the first film from director Miyazaki Gorou since 2006's Tales from Earthsea.
  • The Ohshika-mura Strife Chronicles, a comedy-type movie about people putting on a kabuki show in modern times.
  • Precious Life, another documentary, this time about an Israeli pediatrician and a Palestinian mother trying to treat a baby with an incurable genetic disease.  Shlomi Eldar is the director.
  • men's egg Drummers, which seems to be about a guy who's having to prepare for an upcoming drum festival with a bunch of gyaru-otoko, or "guys who are pretty like girls."  According to the trailer, a bunch of punching takes place?
  • Exit Through the Gift Shop: A Banksy Film, a documentary (prankumentary?) about street art in Los Angeles.
So, I'm predicting Harry Potter will grab the number one spot, obviously.  I think the box office will do the same thing with the two Pocket Monsters movies that the video game charts do with the games and count both the Zekrom movie and the Reshiram movie as one film, so the two Pocket Monsters Best Wishes movies combined will take the number two spot.  And number three will go to the Miyazaki movie, maybe?

Moving on to manga news, it looks like the series
Master!! Pokemon Black & White has come to an end.

The series got its start in the October 2010 issue of CoroCoro Comics Special.  There's been no word yet of there being any volume releases, but if there is, I'll be sure to let you guys know.

The magazine also revealed that the first volume of Pocket Monsters BW will come out at the end of August.  According to Amazon Japan, it's coming out on August 26th.

I know I've fallen behind on those chapter summaries up for both of those series, but I want to work on them after I finish a few more comparisons.  I'm going to finish the write-up for "Rematch at the Nacrene Gym!" and then start working on the watchermark comparisons.  And maybe, if they wind up getting edited like the recent Dent fishing episode was, I'll have to work on the two Hiun City episodes?  After that, I'll work on manga stuff again.
