"The Ultimate Test"
June 24th, 2017

Dogasu @ 22:19 JST -- Today I'm getting #Kanto2017 back on track with a revamped comparison for "The Ultimate Test."

"The Ultimate Test"

By my count the episode has a whopping 30 paint edits so you'll definitely also want to check out the photo gallery that I've added along with the new comparison.

Next week I'll be taking a look at "The Breeding Center Secret" which means that I finally get to talk about the atrocity that is Butch's dub voice. Until then!

"Get Fired Up, Marshadow!"
June 19th, 2017

Dogasu @ 07:34 JST -- A new manga tying in to this summer's movie called "Get Fired Up, Marshadow" was printed in the July 2017 issue of CoroCoro Comics that came out last week.

"Get Fired Up, Marshadow"

Character bios have also been added.

Rather than a continuation of the movie adaptation that was started in the May 2017 issue, "Get Fired Up, Marshadow" is a brand new side story that takes place before the events of Pocket Monsters The Movie "I Choose You!". I like to think of it like those TV specials they put out before the Genosect, Diancie, and Hoopa movies, only this time instead of spending the money to animate a new special they just decided to make a tie-in manga instead.

A second side story called "The Rainbow Hero" is scheduled to be printed in the issue of CoroCoro Comics that goes on sale July 15th.

Pocket Monsters The Movie "I Choose You!" is the 20th Pokemon movie set to hit Japanese theaters on July 15th, 2017. An English release has not been announced at this time.

"Pokémon Paparazzi"
June 18th, 2017

Dogasu @ 13:14 JST -- It's still Saturday somewhere in the world, right?

This week's episode is a look at "
Pokémon Paparazzi," the episode that introduces us to a camera boy who likes sneaking up on people in a way that's totally not creepy at all.

"Pokémon Paparazzi"

Next week's episode is another "bajillion and one paint edits"-type episode but luckily I took all the necessary screencaps months ago so all I've got left is to finish writing it. I know I've been releasing these comparisons a little late the past few weeks but I'm trying really hard to get everything back on track.

Checking out the competition
June 15th, 2017

Dogasu @ 22:20 JST -- We've got a month to go before the Japanese debut of Pocket Monsters The Movie "I Choose You!" so today I thought it'd be nice to take a look at what films it'll be competing against on its opening weekend.

Mary and the Witch's Flower
Gintama
Saban's Power Rangers
Cars 3

The weekend before the new Pocket Monsters film comes out, July 8th, sees the release of the Ghibli-esque Mary and the Witch's Flower (メアリと魔女の花). This is a film that could be on the Japanese charts for months so there's a very real chance that it'll still be on top when the new Pocket Monsters film hits screens a week later.

July 14th (the day before the release of I Choose You!) sees the debut of the live action Gintama (銀魂) movie. I don't really have a feel of how well it'll do but it could be something to look out for? *shrugs*

Finally, onto July 15th itself. I know it's tempting to think that the Japanese dub of Saban's Power Rangers might bring draw kids to the theater but it's also important to remember that Super Sentai and Power Rangers are two very different things. No, I think the biggest competition Pocket Monsters The Movie "I Choose You!" will face is the release of Cars 3. Now Pocket Monsters Best Wishes! The Movie "Victini and the Black Hero Zekrom / Victini and the White Hero Reshiram" did manage to beat Cars 2 back in 2011 but that year Toho had that whole dual movies gimmick going for them that undoubtedly caused a lot of fans to double dip. "Throwback movie" is also a pretty good gimmick, though, so who knows?

The rest of the films being released around that time probably won't be competing with Pocket Monsters' audience all that much.

Regardless of what happens, I'll be keeping track of how Pocket Monsters The Movie "I Choose You!" is doing in the weeks following its release and posting them right here on this site.

"The Case of the K-9 Caper!"
June 12th, 2017

Dogasu @ 7:45 JST -- It's a little late (sorry!) but here's the revamped comparison for "The Case of the K-9 Caper."

"The Case of the K-9 Caper"

Next week we'll get to meet Tohru, aka Snap, aka Todd. There's definitely some interesting stuff going on in the dub in the next three episodes so you're in for a fun batch of comparisons!

"The Purr-fect Hero"
June 3rd, 2017

Dogasu @ 15:25 JST -- Today's entry into Kanto2017? "The Purr-fect Hero!"

"The Purr-fect Hero"

It's the second episode in a row focused on a Japanese holiday (this time, it's Children's Day) and, like its predecessor, has a lot of digital paint splashed all over the place. Be sure to check out the image galleries of all the digital edits below.

Next week I'll be redoing the comparison for "The Case of the K-9 Caper," aka the "Gardie are actually really kind of dumb, aren't they?" episode.
