"Princess vs. Princess"
May 27th, 2017

Dogasu @ 23:49 JST -- This week I've been busy retaking literally dozens of screenshots for my comparison of "Princess vs. Princess," aka the franchise's most Japanese episode ever.

"Princess vs. Princess"

For the comparison itself there weren't that many changes text-wise (though I did rewrite large parts of the "Thoughts" section and updated a few links throughout) but I hope you'll still enjoy looking back over it to see to what lengths 4Kids went with their localizations back in 1999. Here are all the paint edits in the episode, for those of you who want a quick glance at what was changed.

Next week will be the comparison for "The Purr-fect Hero."

Pocket Monsters The Movie "I Choose You!" to have its world premier in France
May 25th, 2017

Dogasu @ 7:49 JST -- The official website for this summer's new movie, Pocket Monsters The Movie "I Choose You!", has announced that the film will make its worldwide debut at the Japan Expo near Paris, France on Thursday, July 6th, 2017. The movie is scheduled to be released in Japan on July 15th.

Japan Expo

According to an announcement on the Japan Expo site, the film's premiere will be attended by director Kunihiko Yuyama, Satoshi's voice actress Rika Matsumoto, and (probably someone just dressed up as) Pikachu. The film will be presented in Japanese with French subtitles created specifically for the event.

The Japan Expo will be held at the Paris-Nord Villepinte Exhibition Centre just outside Paris, France from July 6th to July 9th, 2017. Tickets can be bought on the Japan Expo site. The premiere of Pocket Monsters The Movie "I Choose You!" will take place on July 6th but the time of the screening has not yet been decided.

Pocket Monsters The Movie "I Choose You!" is the 20th Pokemon movie set to hit Japanese theaters on July 15th, 2017. An English release has not been announced at this time.

Zero Voice Actor Shidou Nakamura goes on hiatus
May 21st, 2017

Dogasu @ 10:49 JST -- On Thursday it was announced that Shidou Nakamura (中村獅童), a kabuki actor most well known in the West for voicing Ryuk in the original Death Note animated series but who also provided the voice of Zero in 2008's Pocket Monsters Diamond & Pearl The Movie "Giratina and the Sky Bouquet, Shami, has been diagnosed with Stage I lung cancer and will be going on hiatus while he undergoes treatment.

Mr. Nakamura, aged 44, is having to pull out of the two stage shows he had scheduled for June and July due to his treatment. In a statement released to the media Mr. Nakamura writes "I would like to overcome the illness and definitely (return) in better shape, and work more than ever to deliver good stage performances."

I hope you'll all join me in wishing Mr. Nakamura a full and speedy recovery.

"Bulbasaur's Mysterious Garden"
May 20th, 2017

Dogasu @ 21:25 JST -- The next installment in my #Kanto2017 project is "Bulbasaur's Mysterious Garden," the episode where Satoshi's Fushigidane decides not to evolve because reasons.

"Bulbasaur's Mysterious Garden"

This is an episode I've never looked at for this site before so all the information there is brand new. I've also made a page for all the paint edits in the episode so be sure to check that out as well.

The next two weeks will be simple touch-ups of older comparisons. I've been asked why I'm even bothering with them as most people probably just see them as annoying delays until we get to the actual new content. And I do appreciate that point of view and even agree with it to some extent. However, for the sake of consistency (comparisons shouldn't be jumping back and forth between using "Nyarth" and "Nyasu," for example) and for the sake of having the best screenshots I can grab in 2017 I think it's important to include them in this project. I know not everyone will be OK with that so I plan to have other content going up with the revamped comparisons to help scratch that itch for new content that I know everyone has.

Pardon the dust
May 14th, 2017

Dogasu @ 7:22 JST -- Back on April 29th, I had my updated comparison for "Holy Matrimony" all primed and ready to post. I go to upload the files and guess what...? I couldn't connect to my FTP server. After trying a bunch of different things I reached out to the system administrators and they, thankfully, were able to restore access, but for a while there

And then yesterday! The folder on my computer that had all my new screencaps for "Who gets to keep Togepi?" just up and vanished! Like, one minute they were there, and then POOF! gone. A quick Google search revealed that this is apparently a known issue with Windows 10 so while I worked to troubleshoot it I went and had to retake all the screencaps I had prepared for the update.

Hopefully everything is sorted out now and there won't be any more hiccups. The fact that I fell behind in this #Kanto2017 project so early, regardless of the cause, makes me upset and I'll try to do a better job of having the proper backups and workarounds in place in the future to prevent this kind of delay from happening again.

So anyway, let's get caught up. The first comparison for you today is "Holy Matrimony," a classic episode where we get to meet Kojirou's family. It's a simple retweak of the comparison I already had up (I basically altered a few lines here and there and redid all the screenshots) so I'm sure most of you will skip it.

"Holy Matrimony"

The next comparison is "So Far, Yet So Farfetch'd!" an episode I had never compared before on this site! It's about a duck who goes around tricking people for reasons that are never really adequately explained.

"So Far, Yet So Farfetch'd"

Finally is the aforementioned "Who gets to keep Togepi?" Like the "Holy Matrimony" comparison, this one's a simple retweak so there's not a whole lot to see here. One of the videos I had linked to for that Minnesota no Tamago-Uri song had been taken down since the last time I updated that comparison so I replaced the link with a new, working video.

"Who gets to keep Togepi?"

And now we're back on track! Next week is "Bulbasaur's Mysterious Garden," another episode I've never looked at on this site before, so I hope you look forward to it!
