"League Unleashed!" November 30th, 2010 Dogasu @ 23:56 JST -- I would have had this up earlier, but an impromptu Leslie Nielsen marathon kind of ate up my evening last night. So anyway, here's the comparison for "League Unleashed!" There are a few dialogue changes here and there and a spiel about an attack name I've been saving up for a while, so be sure to check it out. Shifting gears a bit, I'm sure you're all aware that the partial title for the first Best Wishes! movie was revealed yesterday. It first showed up in the CoroCoro G issue that went on sale yesterday, but before the end of the day it was also posted on the movie's official website. So, I've added it to this site's page for the movie as well. I also took the chance to tweak a few things here and there on that page. So, like I said earlier, the new issue of CoroCoro G is out. For those of you who don't know, CoroCoro G is yet another Monthly CoroCoro Comics spin-off that's published four times a year. In the winter issue that went on sale yesterday, there's a two-page interview with Shokotan and Masuda Jun'ichi. In the interview, the Game Freak producer explains the origin behind Geechisu's name. Here's my translation of the relevant part of the interview, though do keep in mind that I have a very loose grasp of music and music terminology:
So, it looks like his name comes from German music scales. So...G'cis? But, pronounced like geh-cheess? OK! I've also added the English names for the Isshu starters in the List of Pokemon. I'm wondering how long it'll take people to completely abandon the Japanese names they've been using for the past half a year or so, switch over to the dub names, and then start criticizing people for using the Japanese names that they themselves were using not that long ago. I've also added a couple of Japanese and English titles to the List of TV Episodes. The CoroCoro G issue has a new manga story called Pocket Monsters Legendary Encounters (Pocket Monsters 伝説の遭遇). It's a 33-page one-shot done by the author who worked on the manga adaptation of The Illusionary Conqueror, Zorro'ark and features N, G'cis, Cheren, Bel, and, for some reason, the Gym Leader Hachiku, and is a pretty decent little story. I'll try to have a summary up within a few days. "An Old Family Blend!" November 26th, 2010 Dogasu @ 08:23 JST -- Sorry this is late. I had an incident this week with a sprained knee that required sitting in waiting rooms for a few hours. Japanese health care is pretty awesome, though, so I'm not complaining. Anyway, here's the comparison for "An Old Family Blend!" I hadn't heard Conway's English voice in a good two years or so, and it really caught me off guard here. Has it always sucked this bad? I notice I have the same problem every time I hear a dub voice for the first time in years, so I'm betting it has more to do with me associating these characters with their Japanese voices than with the English voice actor's actual performance. It's still really jarring, though. The CD single for Best Wishes! / Kokoro no Fanfare came out on Wednesday, so I went and updated the track listing for it over in the CD Guide. The background music tracks don't have any titles, oddly enough, so I wrote up descriptions of each track to help let you know what songs are actually on this CD. If those M-numbers look familiar, that'll be because they were the same type of codes used for that two-disc BGM collection released earlier this year. Bulbagarden user kenisu offers a good explanation of what those M-numbers mean, so go and give that a read if you haven't already. I'm gone for the weekend, so I'll see you guys next week! TCB November 23rd, 2010 Dogasu @ 23:13 JST -- You may have noticed how, at the bottom of each and every page of this website, there's a message that reads
Some of you guys have been kind enough to e-mail me with lists of errors and omissions I've made on various pages throughout the site, so today I'm going to fix some of them. So bluesun and Patrick P., thank you for your e-mails. The overwhelming majority of the errors you guys pointed out should all be fixed now. The things they pointed out to me are too numerous to list here, but there were quite a few tweaks here and there that have needed to be made for a while. Those tweaks have now been made. If you've e-mailed me with some correction and see that it still hasn't be addressed yet, don't worry; I plan to get to it very soon. The e-mails those two guys sent were the longest and most detailed, so I kind of gave those top priority. I'll have the comparison for "An Old Family Blend!" up before too long. "Pokémon Ranger Guardian Signs" and some DVD news November 19th, 2010 Dogasu @ 07:15 JST -- The "later tonight" from my last update became "tomorrow morning" because everyone I know decided to call me last night. I must have spent a good two hours on the phone talking to various people, so site stuff did not happen like I thought it would. Sorry. Anyway, here's the revised comparisons for "Pokémon Ranger Guardian Signs." Here's the first half, ...and here's the second. In DVD news (!), Viz has finally announced a DVD release for Arceus and the Jewel of Life. It's coming out in February 1st, 2011, which makes it way late considering the fact that the movie aired back in November of 2009. I've updated the DVD Guide with what little we know about the DVD release. I've also added the cover for the second Pokémon Elements DVD box set, so check that out as well. Anakubo Kousaku's "Pocket Monsters BW Version" Chapter Three November 18th, 2010 Dogasu @ 07:55 JST -- The newest issue of CoroCoro Comics came out on Monday and included the next chapter in Anakubo Kousaku's Pocket Monsters BW Version. Here's my summary of that chapter, entitled "Welcome to Our Restaurant! We'll Guide You Three to Your Pokemon Battle!!" I've also added Dent, Pod, and Corn to the Characters page. I didn't post this in the actual summary, but there's this one great panel in this chapter that I wanted to share. It's an image of Pippi looking positively ecstatic at the thought of the Gym Leaders fighting and is probably one of the best examples of schadenfreude ever. There wasn't a chapter of Master!! Pokemon Black & White in this issue, by the way. I'm almost ready to post the revised comparison(s) for that Pokemon Ranger special. I hope to have it ready to post later tonight. "Bucking the Treasure Trend!" November 15th, 2010 Dogasu @ 23:54 JST -- I'm so happy to be able to post this update this early because it means I can spend the rest of the week working on other stuff. Here's the comparison for Saturday's new episode, "Bucking the Treasure Trend!" The script isn't nearly as bad as the script in last week's episode, so the comparison's not going to be as long. This is a good thing. I'll get a comparison up for the "Pokémon Rangers Guardian Signs" specials later on this week. "The March of the Exeggutor Squad!" November 12th, 2010 Dogasu @ 23:32 JST -- Would you like to read a new Kanto comparison? Sure you would! Here's the insanely long write-up for "The March of the Exeggutor Squad." As a side note, I am absolutely delighted at the fact that the image TV-Tokyo used for their site is the image of all these pokemon with weird haircuts. That Nassy on the right with its Kid from Kid 'n Play hi-top fade never fails to make me laugh. This the last episode to premiere in syndication, so completing this comparison is actually a bit of a milestone for me. Finally, that first table the Kanto Region page is complete! I've still got eleven episodes to go before I finish Season One ("Holy Matrimony!" won't have to be redone), so I'm definitely getting the feeling that progress is being made. This will be the last Kanto comparison I'll be doing in 2010, by the way. The reason for this, other than to avoid burning out on these things, is because I want to sit down and finish actually finish a few of the other projects I've been working on for the site before the end of the year. One of the big things I'm working on, for example, is a revamp of the horribly out-of-date List of Techniques section. I've been re-translating every attack from the Generation IV games off and on for the last few months, and I want to finally be able to have that full list posted by the end of the year. There's also a fairly extensive translation project I'm working on and a few other smaller updates I want to make before the end of the year. I'll resume the Kanto comparisons in either January or February. The reason I say that is because I'll be going home for winter vacation and will have to catch up on the Season 13 comparisons I wasn't able to work on during when I get back. "The Problem with Paras" won't require too much work (I just have to take some better looking screenshots and spot-check a few places), so I should be able to get back into the groove of things without too many problems. I've also updated the List of TV Episodes with some new Japanese titles. "Four Roads Diverged in a Pokémon Port!", "Pocket Monsters BW Version" Chapter Two November 9th, 2010 Dogasu @ 06:54 JST -- Let's get this week started off right! Here's the comparison for "Four Roads Diverged in a Pokémon Port!" I went back and watched the old Jouto episode where Satoshi battled against Mikan to prepare for this comparison. That was actually the first time I had ever seen that episode, believe it or not. I've also finished my summary for the newest chapter of Pocket Monsters BW Version! This chapter is all about the professors (minus Odamaki-Hakase, for some reason) meeting together to reform Pippi. It also features Giratina, just because. Hope you enjoy! I'm going to post the comparison for "The March of the Exeggutor Squad" later this week. There's a lot to talk about there! "Master!! Pokemon Black & White!" Chapter Four November 5th, 2010 Dogasu @ 19:50 JST -- A quick update before my weekend long birthday celebrations begin. Here's the summary for the newest chapter of Master!! Pokemon Black & White. I'm noticing that the chapters in CoroCoro Comics Special (like this one) tend to have more meat to them than the ones printed in CoroCoro Comics. I can't really put my finger on it, but it seems like author Katsumi Naoto is putting a lot more effort in these CoroCoro Comics Special chapters than he is in the regular CoroCoro Comics chapters. Is anyone else feeling that? Also, I was flipping through the (deep breath) Coro Mini Pocket Monsters Black Fastest Walkthrough Mini Guide and the Coro Mini Pocket Monsters White Fastest Walkthrough Mini Guide yesterday and noticed that the mini-sized strategy guide contains little two panel full color comics by Mr. Katsumi. Looks like he's getting around! I'll have a summary of the issue's Pocket Monsters BW Version up sometime next week. I've also updated the List of TV Episodes with a new English title. There are a couple of Japanese titles floating around as well, but I prefer to wait for confirmation that it's legit before posting it here. I've also already done all the prep work for the comparison to this Saturday's episode, so hopefully I should be able to get the finished version up before Wednesday. See you after the weekend! "The Eighth Wonder of the Sinnoh World!" November 3rd, 2010 Dogasu @ 23:45 JST -- Here's the comparison for "The Eighth Wonder of the Sinnoh World!" I've also added new English titles to the List of TV Episodes. We're getting close to the end of the series! Also, you know how I did the summary for that Pocket Monsters chapter last week? Well, I was looking around this site and noticed that the images I had up for the Pocket Monsters in the Pocket Monsters in the TV Series page were pretty terrible looking, so I replaced those crummy screencaps with higher quality DVD screencaps. I've got the issue of CoroCoro Special that came out this past Saturday and will be posting summaries of the Master! Pokemon Black & White and Pocket Monsters BW Version chapters later this week. I also have a Kanto comparison I'm about 80% done with and hope to get that up soon as well.
