Battle Frontier
February 28th, 2008

Dogasu @ 18:34 JST -- I got the Battle Frontier comparisons changed over to the new layout.  That takes care of all the PUSA stuff.

Now onto the Darkrai movie stuff.  Those of you who don't visit the same message boards I go to should know that I finally bought the Region 2 DVD this past Monday.  Only a few months late, huh?  Anyway, I've had a chance to watch the movie in Japanese (via the DVD) and in English (via...well, y'know...), and I plan to start working on a comparison very soon.  Hopefully I'll be able to post it by tomorrow night (my time), but I'm not making any promises.

Anyway...since I got the DVD, I went ahead and added its information to the Region 2 DVD guide.  The DVD has way more production artwork than the previous movie (this one has 76 pieces in the "model sheets" section alone), so it's definitely a disc that'll satisfy DVD extras whores like myself.  Maybe I'll post them on this website someday?

Before I finish this post, I've got a few news items I've wanted to post for a while.  First up, as the six people who actually care about this already know, the big "next-gen DVD format war" has been decided in Blu-Ray's favor.  This is only Pocket Monsters news in the loosest sense; I mean, yeah, this outcome means that any high definition Pocket Monsters releases will be put out on this winning format.  But I really don't see that happening anytime soon.  I mean, what six year old kid gives two shits about having a Pokemon movie in high-def?

In other "is this really Pocket Monsters news?" news, Reggie Fils-aime announced that the Wii balance board, the scale-like device packaged with Wii Fit, won't just be a peripheral that's used for a game or two and then forgotten.  Instead, it looks like they're producing more than ten games using the device.  No information has been provided on any of the games, but it got me thinking...could a Pocket Monsters game be among the ten games?  I know the chances are pretty slim, but what if...?  What kind of Pocket Monsters game could be made using such a device?  Any ideas?

(This would be the part where, if I had a message board, I'd link to some topic where you guys could discuss this kind of thing.  Meh.)

I hope to have that "The Rise of Darkrai" comparison up soon.

DVD Guide (Region 2)
February 24th, 2008

Dogasu @ 17:53 JST -- Let's get the boring stuff out of the way first...I've adapted all the comparisons for the movies and TV specials into the new layout.  Slowly but surely...

The last time I updated, I promised I'd have an actual content update this time.  Well, here it is...a DVD Guide for all of the movies released in Japan.  Unfortunately, I do not own every one of these DVDs, so the information on some of the extras on these discs is incomplete.  Why not e-mail me and help me fill in those gaps?  :P

I'll probably go out and buy the Darkrai movie later today so I can be ready to do a comparison of the movie later in the week.

More of the not-all-that-interesting-to-you-guys update
February 18th, 2008

Dogasu @ 22:04 JST -- I really do hate the fact that these layout updates are eating up time that could be spent doing actual content updates.  Especially since these updates are, on my end, tedious as hell to perform.  I want them to be over just as much as you guys do.

So anyway, I've converted all of the Diamond & Pearl episode comparisons to the new layout.  At the risk of sounding full of myself, I think I did a pretty good job on the banner for that section.  I've also added the newest Japanese episode titles to the List of Anime Episodes.  The Lishan episode title was a bitch to translate, but hopefully the footnote I added to the bottom of the page will give you an idea of why I chose the translation that I did.

Other than that, I guess I should mention the new DVD box sets coming out.  The third Indigo box set just came out in the U.S. today, but that's not all!  On May 20th, we'll see a box set containing all 35 episodes of the Orange Islands seasons.  Then, on June 24th, we'll finally see a box set containing the first 23 (or so) episodes of Battle Frontier.  I won't bother to list out any more details here, but if you want to find out more about these sets, head over to the news thread on Bulbagarden.

Next time, I'll have a real update in addition to a layout update.  Promise!

It continues
February 13th, 2008

Dogasu @ 18:21 JST -- Argh...I wish I was going to be in the country when this gathering of Pocket Monsters seiyuu is going on.  But I'll be back in the States, visiting family/friends and eating all the fatty American food I can during my nine-day stay.

Anyway...I've converted everything under the "Lists" heading to the new layout.  I've also gone ahead and added the latest episode titles to the Shin'ou Episode List

Next up will be the massive undertaking of redoing the Episode Comparisons section.  That portion is easily the largest part of the site and will therefore take the longest to convert.  I'll probably break it down into sagas to make it more bearable for me, so expect the Diamond & Pearl comparisons to be updated before too long.

I have a three-day weekend coming up, so hopefully I'll have the entire section switched over by then.  Until then, amuse yourself with this news article from the year...2008?  Wow.  Who would have thought something like this would still be going on today?  If this isn't a sign of the franchise's resurgence in popularity, I don't know what is.

More fiddling around
February 5th, 2008

Dogasu @ 20:15 JST -- So I've finished changing the Old Updates Archive and the Links pages to the new layout.  The Old Updates Archive is the reason everything took so long - I had forgotten the sheer number of pages that were in that section.

I didn't read through everything I wrote on every page of the Old Updates Archive, but I read enough to see how annoying I was in the early years of the site.  I don't know how the spastic, insane, "let's go into random tangents on the Gundam Wing anime for no goddamn reason" Dogasu ever convinced people to visit his website, but apparently he did.  Thank God 2008 Dogasu is nothing like that.

I guess to prevent this from being a waste for you guys...you may have heard that "The Rise of Darkrai" is not coming to theatres in the U.S. after all.  Totally saw that coming, but whatever.

More tinkering
February 3rd, 2008

Dogasu @ 01:19 JST -- I'm thinking that this is going to be the final layout I end up running with.  Comments?

Happy Eighth Birthday!
February 2nd, 2008

So I'm a few days late, but here's the write-up for my site's eighth birthday.  In it, I look back at how awesome 2007 was and give some predictions about what's coming up in 2008.  Hopefully, you'll find it worth a read.

I also wanted to thank everyone who took the time out to send me comments about the site's layout.  I want to try a few tweaks here and there before I commit to a final version, so keep sending those e-mails to my new address (
[email protected]) and I'll be sure to keep your comments in mind.
