A number of preview screenings are being
set up in advance of the film's general December 25th release.
The first preview screening scheduled is for Tuesday, December 8th, 2020 at 18:30 JST.
The preview screening will take place at the Toho Cinemas location in Roppongi Hills. Doors will open at 18:00 JST. The premiere will include a special stage show featuring special guests Rica Matsumoto (Satoshi), Moka Kamishiraishi (Koko), Kankuro Nakamura (Zarude), Okazaki Physical Education (producer of the vocal songs being used in the film), and Tetsuo Yajima (the film's director).
The preview was originally planned to be open to 75 groups of two for a total of 150 people but due to the recent increase in COVID-19 cases in Japan that number has been reduced to 70 people altogether.
Applications to attend the screening were being accepted until Monday, November 30th. Winners were notified on December 1st via e-mail by the Toho advertising department.
A second preview screening is being set up for listeners of The Pocket Monsters The Movie "Koko" Supporters' Podcast - "The Movie Secrets We Want to Tell You" (劇 場版ポ ケットモンスター ココ －サポーターズPodcastーいま、君に伝えたい映画のヒミツ).
This second preview will take place on Saturday, December 19th 2020. There are two showings scheduled for that day: one at 13:00 and another at 14:00. Doors will open 30 minutes before each showing.
The venue for this premiere has not been made public. Only those who win tickets to the screening will be told where it's taking place.
To date, no special guests have been announced.
Applications to attend the screening began being accepted on Friday, December 4th and will remain open until Friday, December 11th at 11:00 JST. Winners will be notified later that day by the Toho advertising department.
The May 2020 issue of CoroCoro Comics (in stores April 15th) had a promotion for a movie preview screening that ended up being canceled due to the novel coronavirus.
According to the promotion, the "Shogakukan Association Movie Preview Screening" (小学館連合試写会) was to take place on Sunday, June 28th in both Tokyo and Osaka. Attendance was going to be limited to 750 groups (maximum of three people per group) for a total of 2,250 people.
Applications to attend the screening could be made either by sending in a postcard with relevant information or by filling out the online form here. Either way the applications had to arrive by June 1st. The information you needed to provide was:
