Movie 01
Satoshi, Pikachu, Iris, and Dent have
traveled to the town of Aint Oak (アイントオーク) to see a castle in the
middle of the
town called "The Sword of the Earth" (大地の剣). The town used to
flourish as "the country of the people of the earth" (大地の民の王国) but has
fallen into decline in recent years. Satoshi and his friends are
competing in a battle tournament at the Harvest Festival being held in
Aint Oak
when they befriend Victini, a pokemon capable of giving its mysterious
power to humans and other pokemon.
One of the descendants of the people of the earth, a man named Dread Grangil, wishes to return the country to its former glory. He plans to use Victini's power to mobilize "The Sword of the Earth," causing trouble for the town of Aint Oak! Can Satoshi and his friends save the town? What will become of Victini? Together with the mysteries of Reshiram and Zekrom, the most adventurous and emotional story in pokemon history is approaching!
For the first Best Wishes! film, director Yuyama Kunihiko went location hunting in France. They went to Nice, Gourdon, Tourrettes-sur-Loup, Èze, Mont St-Michel, Roquebrune-Cap-Martin, Sainte-Agnès, Peillon, Cagnes-sur-Mer, and the French Riviera. The crew spent five days in the country. In a special message posted on the movie's official website, director Yuyama Kunihiko reveals that Victini will live in a village on top of a mountain and be able to share its energy with the other pokemon who live there. It will also be able to camouflage itself from the village's inhabitants. Mr. Yuyama goes on to say that Satoshi and his friends will visit the village, meet Victini, and find themselves caught up in a number of incidents. Unlike the previous movie, The Master of Illusions, Zoroark, the action in this movie isn't be confined to just one town. A special Vicitini with the fire-type move "V Generate" was given out as a pre-order bonus. It knows "Flame Bomb" ("Searing Shot" in the English version of the games), holds a Flame Jewel ("Flame Gem"), has a Wish Ribbon, and be kept in a Precious Ball.

Gross-to-date (both films): 4,076,078,300 yen (as of September 7th, 2011) Gross-to-date (Black Hero, Zekrom): 174,438,500 yen (as of August 24th, 2011) Gross-to-date (White Hero, Reshiram): 1,949,341,500 yen (as of August 24th, 2011) The films opened in second place, being
beaten by Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows -
Part 2. The first Best
Wishes! movies debuted in 351 screens across the country, with
each screen switching back and forth between the Zekrom movie and the Reshiram movie at regular
intervals. Individually, Victini
and the Black Hero,
Zekrom earned 386,201,950 yen while Victini and the White Hero, Reshiram
earned 440,104,850 yen. Rounding out the top three for the
weekend was Studio
Ghibli's Kokuriko Zakara.
The top three remained the same for the film's second week in theaters. The films dropped to fourth place in its third weekend, with Harry Potter keeping its first place spot, Transformers Dark of the Moon in second place, and Cars 2 in third place. They dropped one more spot in their fourth weekend due to the arrival of the new Kamen Rider film. Theatrical Edition Kamen Rider OOO Wonderful the Movie: The Shogun and the 21 Core Medals came in first place, knocking Harry Potter down to number two, Transformers to number three, and Cars 2 to number four. The movies continued their way down the chart in its fifth weekend, dropping to sixth place. No new films were introduced to knock the film down a spot; instead, the fall was due to a reshuffling of films that were already showing in theaters. Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows - Part 2 regained its number one spot, Transformers Dark of the Moon regained its number two spot, Cars 2 reclaimed number three, Theatrical Edition Kamen Rider OOO Wonderful the Movie: The Shogun and the 21 Core Medals dropped three ranks down to fourth place, and Kokuriko Zakara climbed back up to fifth place. In week number six, the movies remained in their sixth place spot. Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows - Part 2 kept its number one spot, newcomer Kung Fu Panda 2 opened at number two, Transformers Dark of the Moon dropped to number three, Kokuriko Zakara came in at number four, and Theatrical Edition Kamen Rider OOO Wonderful the Movie: The Shogun and the 21 Core Medals dropped down to fifth place. In its seventh week, the Pocket Monsters Best Wishes movies jumped up two ranks to number four, most likely due to kids flocking to theaters for the last weekend of summer vacation. First place went to God's Clinical Records, a Japanese film based on the best-selling book by Natsukawa Sousuke. Second place went to Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows - Part 2, and third place went to Kung Fu Panda 2. School starting back again after summer vacation is most likely to blame for the films' steep drop to tenth place in their eigth week. Overall, the two films together brought in 4,076,078,300 yen, making it the fifth year in a row that a Pocket Monsters film has passed the four billion yen mark. They have also been the best performing Japanese films of 2011.
