| Story Synopsis | Characters | Pocket Monsters in the TV series | About the Author | Pocket Monsters artist / writer Kousaku Anakubo (穴久保幸作) was born in the Iwate Prefecture on April 18th, 1957. He got his start as the assistant to fellow manga artists Masami Fukushima and Kimio Yanagisawa. He made his debut in 1990 with Musashi, The Samurai Lord The picture on the left is Anakubo-san and his daughter, taken from Volume One of Pocket Monsters (1996). The picture on the right is taken from Volume Two of Pocket Monsters RS Compilation (2003). An interview was conducted with Mr. Anakubo in 2017 in which he discusses how he was chosen to work on the series, what materials he had to work when he first started out, and how he chose Pippi as the mascot of the series.
