Pokémon Generations

Dogasu @ 10:01 JST -- I was in the U.S. last week and so I couldn't cover this when it was brand new, but there's a new series of animated shorts airing right now called Pokémon Generations.
I've created a Pokémon Generations page over in the Movies & Specials Guide with everything I could think to add about the new series. Unfortunately there's nothing out there at all about the Japanese version at the moment but as soon as any news is released I'll be sure to update the page accordingly.
Volcanion and the Tricky Magearna - Final-ish Box Office Numbers

Dogasu @ 06:47 JST -- This year's Pokemon movie, Pokémon the movie XY&Z "Volcanion and the Tricky Magearna", has ended its theatrical run in Japan. How did it do in the end?
The final, final numbers won't be revealed until the end of the year but for now, it seems like the film is finishing out at 1,947,990,700 yen. For comparison's sake, last year's movie, Pokémon the movie XY "The Archdjinn of the Rings, Hoopa" & "Pikachu and the Pokemon Band", ended up making around 2.6 billion yen by the end of its run.
While the Magearna movie is now the lowest-grossing film in the franchise it's important to look at everything in context. Last year's film, for example, did awful by Pokemon's ridiculously high standards but actually ended up being the 12th highest grossing domestic film in Japan of 2015. The Magearna movie, while not as huge as hit as I'm sure Toho would have liked, probably wasn't the flop it appears to be either.
Next year's movie will be the 20th film in the franchise so many are expecting this downward trend to turn itself around in 2017.
Pokémon the movie XY&Z "Volcanion and the Tricky Magearna" was released on July 16th, 2016. It is the 19th film in the franchise overall.
