Pokemon - The Legend of the Ryuu-Oh! Chapter Five, BW Rival Destinies DVD

Dogasu @ 15:26 JST -- I've just finished the summary for the newest chapter of the manga Pokemon - The Legend of the Ryuu-Oh!. There's some pretty interesting battling going on in this one!
I haven't had a chance to pick up the newest issues of either Pokemon Fan or CoroCoro Ichiban! yet so summaries of the Pocket Monsters Special chapters that were printed in those two won't be up until sometime next week. And while I'm on the subject - one thing I forgot to mention in my last update is that Volume 50 of Special is going to be coming out soon. To celebrate this milestone, Shougakukan will be releasing two versions of the volume: a regular version priced at 524 yen (plus tax) and a special limited edition version that comes with a 64-page collection of color illustrations priced at 880 yen (plus tax). Both versions will go on sale March 25th, 2014.
In unrelated news, I've updated the DVD Guide with information on the second volume of BW Rival Destinies. The two-disc set is also due out March 25th, 2014.
Pocket Monsters Special

Dogasu @ 07:47 JST -- I've (finally!) gotten around to updating the summary for the chapter of Pocket Monsters Special that was printed in last month's issue of CoroCoro Ichiban!
In related news, Pocket Monsters Special author Kusaka Hidenori announced that XY graphic novels will start going on sale in Japan starting in April! In a letter posted on the manga's official website, he talks about how we usually have to wait two years for chapters of Special to get collected into graphic novel format (WHY?) but that this time they're going to start releasing these XY volumes as soon as they have enough chapters ready. Y'know, like just about every other manga series out there. Details are scarce at the moment but they did say that the chapters will be printed as-is from the magazines, which to me implies that they won't have any of the art / dialogue edits that usually occur in the transition from magazine to graphic novel.
The first volume will focus on the chapters printed in CoroCoro Ichiban! and will be released under the "CoroCoro Dragon Comics" label. The Pokemon Fan chapters will come out in the regular graphic novel release that'll come after the conclusion of the Black & White and B2W2 arcs. That graphic novel release, as always, will be released under the "Tentou-mushi Comics Special" label.
