"Mastering Current Events!"
April 30th, 2010

Dogasu @ 18:51 JST -- I'm finally up to date!  Here's "Mastering Current Events!"

"Mastering Current Events!"

I also went and pretty much redid the page I had for Kaze to Issho ni because the older version of it was pretty shameful.  I redid the layout to make it match the newer pages better and added my own translation.

I also realized, when going to grab the screencap for the page, that the animation used for the ending theme in that first movie is bo-ring.  I'm so glad Mr. Kunihiko us better things to look at for the other movies.

I'm out of town for the weekend and won't be able to update until Monday.  But!  I have Monday through Wednesday off for Golden Week and should be able to at least get started on the comparison for "The Bridge Bike Gang."  I'm excited about doing that one because it's one I hadn't ever touched before,

Before I go, I wanted to point out this funny goof-up over on the official Pokémon site that was brought to my attention:

"Can watching Zoey give Misty the inspiration she needs to win her next Contest?"

OMG Season 13 spoilerz!!1!!1!!1!!

"The Treasure is All Mine!"
April 29th, 2010

Dogasu @ 01:25 JST -- It took a little longer than I had hoped, but I've finished the comparison for "The Treasure is All Mine!

"The Treasure is All Mine!"

I really liked the Japanese version of this episode.  The dub?  Well...like I say in the comparison itself, I kind of revert to the Dogasu from 2000 who would go on and on about how everything the English version does sucks.  In 2010, I'm older and wiser now and don't do that as often, but every now and then that old, whiny Dogasu surfaces, ready to tell everyone how much he hates the dub for the billionth time.

I've also updated the List of Anime Episodes with some new episode titles.

Finally, I want to draw you guys' attention to some manga stuff coming up.  First of all, in Japan, a graphic novel release of Pocket Monsters HGSS Jou's Big Adventure was released yesterday. If you don't know what that series is, check out the bullet point style summaries I posted over on Bulbagarden.  Also, Volume 35 of Pocket Monsters Special has been announced as coming out on May 28th, but there's no cover art for that out yet.

Jou's Big Adventure

Over in the U.S., release dates for the Volume 08 (which will end the series) of Pok
émon Diamond and Pearl Adventure! and Volume 09 and Volume 10 of Pokémon Adventures have been announced.  That final volume of DP Adventure comes out on November 2nd while Volumes 09 and 10 of Adventures come out on October 5th and December 7th, respectively.  The gap between Volumes 09 and 10 is only about two months, so maybe Viz is ramping up production of these things?  Let's keep our fingers crossed.

Pokemon Diamond and Pearl Adventure! 08 Pokemon Adventures 09 Pokemon Adventures 10

I've already watched "Mastering Current Events" and have taken all my notes for the episode, so I should hopefully be able to get everything written up before too long.

"The Battle Finale of Legend!"
April 26th, 2010

Dogasu @ 21:54 JST -- I have no idea why this took me so long to finish.  Writer's block, I guess?  Whatever the reason, I've finished the comparison for the climax to the Ginga-Dan storyline, "The Battle Finale of Legend!"

"The Battle Finale of Legend!"

I've also posted a video to go along with this comparison, so be sure to check out my Dailymotion page if you get a chance.

I'm really going to try my best to plow through the next two episodes so I can hurry up and start doing Kanto comparisons again.  I've only done four Kanto comparisons since the start of the year, and it's almost May.  That's beyond unacceptable.

Also, Cartoon Network USA had their annual upfront and confirmed that Pokémon will be coming back for the 2010 - 2011 season.  We really had no reason to believe otherwise, but it's still nice to see confirmation on things like this all the same.

Getting up to date
April 18th, 2010

Dogasu @ 23:49 JST -- I was going to just jump right into the comparison for "The Battle Finale of Legend," but I felt like I needed to take a breather after penning that massive essay.  So, I decided to work on a few things that I had been meaning to update for a while.

The first update for tonight is a major update to the The Illusionary Conqueror, Zorro'ark page.  I really had been neglecting that section for a while, so I was happy to finally get that thing up to date.  There are now bios up for all the humans and pokemon in the film, a synopsis of the film's story, information about advanced ticket sales, and some voice actor information.

The newest trailer has a small sample of the theme song to the movie, "Ice Cream Syndrome," and I'm really digging it.  I guess one of the things it has going for it, at least for me, is the fact that it's being sung by men.  I took a look at the other films and noticed that the only other movies to have ending themes sung by people with Y chromosomes are Ashita Tenki ni Shite Kure (Movie 04), Hitori Bocchijanai (Movie 05), and half of
I Will Be With You ~Where the Lost Ones Go~ (DP Movie 01).  It's certainly a nice change of pace.

I've also determined, from the trailer, that Nakagawa Shouko is only capable of doing one voice and one voice only.  God, I wish she'd just go away.

The second update is a listing for the next in the series of "Best Collection" DVDs in Japan.  I had actually been wondering if we were ever going to get any more of these since it had been a while since we got a new set, but here we are.  The new set of eight discs, which brings us up to 56 discs altogether, will be released on July 27th and will be a showcase of Gym Battles, Contests, and general accomplishments made throughout Shin'ou.  I've also updated the So which episodes are available on DVD in Japan, anyway? page accordingly.

Finally, I've updated the List of Anime Episodes with some new Japanese and English episode titles.

My goal for this week is to finish up the comparisons for "The Battle Finale of Legend!" and "The Treasure is All Mine!"  We'll see how that goes!

"The Legend of Miniryuu"
April 16th, 2010

Dogasu @ 00:06 JST -- Here's my comparison essay on "The Legend of Miniryuu."

"The Legend of Miniryuu"

I think the length of this will let you know why this took so long for me to complete.  Hopefully, you guys won't tl;dr it.  I tried to break up the giant walls of text with images and paragraph breaks, so I hope it's at least somewhat legible.

And to think I get to do it all over again after two more Kanto episodes.

I've also updated the DVD Guide with information about the final two Pokemon Elements disc.  The episodes on those last two discs have finally been revealed, so I've added that information.  Hopefully, with the last of those out of the way, Viz can start releasing DP Galactic Battles, "Arceus and the Jewel of Life," or Johto Journies.

I hope to get the comparison up for "The Battle Finale of Legend" up soon so I can start focusing on some of the other sections for a bit.

OMG i BEAT SEREBII MY E-PENIS IS BIGGER THAN URS DUR DUR DUR
April 9th, 2010

Dogasu @ 15:31 JST -- The announcement that the Generation V games are going to be called Pocket Monsters Black & Pocket Monsters White will be all anyone can talk about this weekend because, apparently, six words (four if you shorten Pocket Monsters to just Pokémon) is enough on which to base countless conversations.

So I'll hold off on posting the comparison for "The Legend of Miniryuu" until after then.  I figure this site will be giving off 503 errors anyway, so an extra day or three won't hurt.  I went ahead and updated the Video Games page with the site-breaking information because I know that if I didn't do it now, I'd get lazy and not update that for another month or so.

Also, it looks like Sukima Switch is going to be performing the theme song to this year's movie, The Illusionary Conquerer, Zorro'ark.  Which is pretty cool because Sukima Switch isn't an annoying bubbly otaku girl.

Sukima Switch

I'm kind of bummed out that it's going to be a "medium tempo love song" because a) that describes like half the Japanese ending themes, and b) it's going to have nothing to do with the actual movie.  But still...Sukima Switch!  They have ties to both the first Ouendan game and the new Fullmetal Alchemist series.

Finally, I've added the latest episode title to the List of Anime Episodes.

I'm heading out of town for the weekend to hang out with some friends who are visiting from back home, so I'll be back here on Monday-ish.

Pikachu's Big Twinkling Search!
April 8th, 2010

Dogasu @ 23:30 JST -- That "The Legend of Miniryuu" comparison isn't going to be finished by tonight.  I really want to do this thing justice and don't want to do a half-assed job just to get it online sooner, so I'm going to need another day or two.  Sorry about that.

In the meantime, check out the page I made for the recently-announced-for-DVD ANA Pikachu short, "Pikachu's Big Twinkling Search!"

I had actually finished this a few days ago but decided to hold off on it in case I needed a quick update.  And, well, here we are.  I plan to do pages like that for all the ANA shorts, but for right now, I don't have the time.

I'll try to have "The Legend of Miniryuu!" up tomorrow.

"The Needs of the Three"
April 7th, 2010

Dogasu @ 23:35 JST -- All caught up!  Here's "The Needs of the Three!"

"The Needs of the Three!"

There's really not a lot to say about this one.  Which, I think, is preferable to having to write a zillion page essay.

I've also updated the List of Anime Episodes with an episode title that I had apparently skipped over.  Whoops!

Tomorrow, I"ll have "The Legend of Miniryuu" up!!

"Unlocking the Red Chain of Events!"
April 6th, 2010

Dogasu @ 15:30 JST -- I continue to catch up with the dub with my comparison of "Unlocking the Red Chain of Events."

"Unlocking the Red Chain of Events"

Those of you who like to see a cranky old fan whine about how a cartoon cat is handled in the English dub of a Japanese kids' show will like this one.

This episode was the first time I've heard the dubbed versions of pretty much all the Team Galactic members as well as Handsome.  And, well, it's kind of weird.

Also, the Japanese Amazon site has been updated with listings for the DVD release of the sixth AN
A Pokemon short, "Pikachu's Big Twinkling Search!"  I've updated the DVD Guide with information on the release.  Media Factory will post a trailer for the short on their official site sometime in May.

My plan is to have "The Needs of the Three!" up tomorrow, and then "The Legend of Miniryuu" up on Thursday.  Whether that actually ends up happening is unknown, but I'll do my best.

"Sticking With Who You Know!"
April 5th, 2010

Dogasu @ 02:30 JST -- Let's cut to the chase.  Here's "Sticking With Who You Know!"

"Sticking With Who You Know!"

The "Thoughts" portion of the comparison is what kept me from uploading this sooner.  While I eventually decided that I actually did like the episode, it was really hard for me to come up with enough things to make me feel like I was giving the episode the attention it deserves.

I've already started on the comparison for "The Red Chain of Events," so I should have that up soon-ish.

April Fool's Archive

April 2nd, 2010

Dogasu @ 23:37 JST -- A lot of you seemed to really dig yesterday's update, which is just awesome in so many ways.

Like always, I've archived everything on my April Fool's Archive page, so go check that out if you didn't make it  to the party.

Numemon's Backpack

I'll start updating this site again tomorrow.
