Donkey Konga
February 28th, 2007

I have two 12-hour work days ahead of me, so the chances of me keeping up this one-update-a-day schedule is slim to none.

Anyways, today's update is...a full list of songs featured in all three Donkey Konga games!  Just look at the Japanese song list and then compare it to the American song list and you'll see that we really did get the shaft when it came to getting the good songs.  I mean, who wouldn't want to beat along to Viva Rocks or Cha-La Head-Cha-La?  I had to end up doing the thing from scratch because...well, quite frankly, all the other lists I've found on the Internet just flat-out sucked.  So, I hope you guys enjoy.

I hope to have a small update for Friday.  After that, I'll start on those Kanto comparisons I've been promising for a while now.

You mean you haven't seen Avenue Q?
February 27th, 2007

OK, so this update is not that "Special," but it does have a "Purpose."  Because even though "The Internet is for Porn," "There's a Fine, Fine Line" between a pointless update and an interesting one.

"Spontaneous Combusken" is up.  "For Now."

"Odd Pokémon Out!"
February 26th, 2007

I went to Best Buy earlier today for the big sale, but all I saw left was Chibi Robo, a game I already own.  So, no cheap games for me :(

Oh well.  I have a few updates for you.  First of all, "Odd Pokémon Out!" is now up.  Remember, after I finish the next comparison, "Spontaneous Combusken," I'll start working on redoing the old Kanto comparisons.

I've also updated the DVD Guide with information on the releases of the Pokémon Ranger and the Temple of the Sea as well as information on the upcoming final volumes of the
Advanced Battle DVD's.  All the sites I've seen with listings for the final two volumes have them listed as 133 minutes, which put it right at five episodes.  But, if you look at the episode listings, that doesn't make sense since that means that leaves off the final two episodes of the season!  I'm sure Viz will just go ahead and just put six episodes on these last two discs like they did with Advanced Challenge, but until Amazon.com updates their listings, I'll just leave the listing as-is.

Finally, I've posted the latest two Japanese episode titles on the Episode List

Best Buy Sale
February 26th, 2007

I'll post a better update later today, but for now, I wanted to let you guys know about a sale going on at Best Buy stores around the U.S.  For today only, you can get a crapload of games for really really cheap.  There are a few Pokémon games on that list, so if you have a spare $2 laying around, you can pick up a copy of Pokémon XD or Pokémon Sapphire.

"Harley Rides Again"
February 22nd, 2007

Well, it's up a bit later than I wanted it to be, but I finally have "Harley Rides Again" ready.  This one's a bit meatier than "Slaking Kong!," so that's part of the reason it took so long to do.

Also, for you Americans out there, the March 2007 issue of Shonen Jump has a couple of ads for the upcoming graphic novel release of Pokémon Mystery Dungeon - Ginji's Rescue Team.   You can click on each image to view a larger version:

Viz Border's

The one on the left is Viz's ad, which can also be seen in the "Best Of Yellow" graphic novel.  The second one is a general ad for Border's featuring an image of the Pokémon manga to the far right.  The "Buy yours today!" part at the end of the Viz ad is a little irritating, though, considering the graphic novel doesn't come out for another week and a half.

I went ahead and archived these two images on the
Pokémon Mystery Dungeon - Ginji's Rescue Team page.

I think it's great that Viz is trying to promote this series the best they can, and I hope the sales of this graphic novel are good enough to persuade them to bring more Pocket Monsters-related manga to the U.S.

"Slaking Kong!"
February 19th, 2007

"Slaking Kong!" is up now.  It's a short one, but I honestly couldn't think of anything else to write about for this episode.

So this weekend I took a spur-of-the-moment trip to my mom's place.  And while I was there, visiting friends and whatnot, I also managed to borrow my mom's computer and do three new comparisons.  So expect to see "Harley Rides Again" sometime within the next day or two, followed by "Odd Pokémon Out!" and "Spontaneous Combuskin."  After that, I'll dive into those early Kanto episodes.

I've also updated the Episode Lists for both DP and AG.  Finally, I went ahead and did all the prep work for the Diamond & Pearl comparisons.  I don't know why people are having so much trouble with the idea that the first five episodes of Diamond & Pearl are actually Season 9 episodes.  I mean seriously, people.  It's not that hard.

"Battling the Enemy Within"
February 16th, 2007

Like I said sometime last month, I don't have the ability to do the comparison for "Harley Rides Again" (or any other Battle Frontier episode, for that matter), so I'm having to skip ahead to one of the episodes I can do:  "Battling the Enemy Within."  I guess it's a decent enough read.

I'll be doing "Slaking Kong" next.  After that, I'll start redoing some of the Kanto episodes while I try to figure otu why my computer is so slow and uncooperative.

Video Games
February 13th, 2007

So...what's up?

You'll notice that February 13th isn't exactly "tomorrow" unless you're in some weird sort of time warp.  Well, I could go on about how my FTP program fizzed out on me and how I had a bunch of other, real-world stuff to deal with, but by this point I'm sure you guys are tired of hearing that.  I would be too.  So, let's just get on with the updates.

I guess the first thing I have to present to you is the yearly anniversary rant up for you guys to read.  I know it's not an exciting read for you guys and is more something that I'm doing for myself, but there is some good reflections of the year 2006 that you might find interesting.

The bigger, more interesting update, is the complete and utter revamp of the Video Games section.  Let's all be honest here - the old one sucked.  The older pages contained some of the worst writing I've ever done for this site and contained the sort of blind fanboyism that only the Dogasu of 2001 could produce.

I knew it had to be redone, but it took a while to decide on how I was going to do it.  This isn't a site with up-to-the-minute news, nor is it a site that contains strategy guides and a full Pokédex and other such things that every other Pocket Monsters site on the planet seems to have.  Offering game reviews wouldn't be all that interesting either since you've got sites like IGN for that sort of thing.  So what do I do?

I ultimately decided to do tiny profiles divided by system.  Since this is a site that's all about showing the differences between the Japanese version and the English version, it seemed fitting to do the same thing for the video games.   It took me  a few days to get all of that together, but I think it was an update that was long overdue.  I hope you guys enjoy what you read and are able to learn something from it.

I'll do another Card Masters summary soon, but first, I plan to do a few more Battle Frontier comparisons.
