Mew
September 30th, 2006

Just a quick reminder that today, September 30th, fans in America wll be able to download Mew.  The pokemon can be obtained at many Toys R Us stores across the country between 12:00pm and 03:00pm.  Yeah, that's only a three hour window, but apparently supplies are limited.  Anyway, here's a quick checklist of what you'll need to get the pokemon:
  • You'll need to bring a Game Boy Advance or a Game Boy Advance SP.  You can't get Mew if you come to the event with only a Nintendo DS since that system is not compatible with the Game Boy Advance link cable that will be used to transfer the pokemon to your game pak.
  • A copy of Pokemon Ruby, Sapphire, Emerald, FireRed, or LeafGreen.  In Ruby, Sapphire, FireRed, and LeafGreen, you'll need to be far enough in the game to have a Pokedex.  In Emerald, you'll need to have the National Pokedex, which means you'll have to have beaten the Elite 4 at least once.
  • You must save in a Pokemon Center.
  • Make sure you have a pokemon in your party that you're willing to trade for.  Any pokemon is fine just as long as you're willing to get rid of it.
I know I don't usually give video game advice (or do anything with video games, really), but I thought I'd bring this to everyone's attention since everyone else has a case of Diamond & Pearl fever right now.

Lucario and the Mystery of Mew
September 28th, 2006

I have no idea why it took so long to get this up, but here's the comparison for "Lucario and the Mystery of Mew."  I had certainly watched both versions of the movie and made all the necessary notes by last Friday, but for some reason I had trouble staying focused long enough to sit down and write this.  This is also the first time I've ever used a picture from my own life for this site (the PuffyAmiYumi float picture is one I took when I went to New York last year), so that's pretty exciting.

I know today is the big Diamond & Pearl information field day, and I might still do something to celebrate.  But I don't know yet.  In the meantime, check out Play-Asia.com's weekly special:  a brand new copy of Pokemon de Panepon ("Pokémon Puzzle Challenge" in the U.S.) for only $4.90!  It's the Japanese version of the game, but it's a puzzle game, so you don't really need to know the language in order to enjoy the game.

Pokemon Mysterious Dungeon Ginji's Rescue Team
September 19th, 2006

So when I started today's update, I had honestly forgotten that today marks the release of the Pokémon Mysterious Dungeon games in the U.S.  Yet the page I made for today - a page for the Pokemon Mysterious Dungeon Ginji's Rescue Team manga - is being posted just in time to "celebrate" the release of the games in the U.S.

I won't be able to pull off a similar stunt with Pokemon Ranger since I don't have any Ranger manga.

Anyway, I tried to get a copy of "Lucario and the Mystery of Mew" DVD today, but none of the stores I went to had it.  While my computer is still unable to play two video files at once, it can (in theory) still handle one video file at a time, so I should still be able to do a comparison with the Japanese DVD playing on my computer while the English DVD plays on my standalone DVD player.  I'll get to work testing that theory as soon as I can find a store that'll sell me the friggin' DVD.

"Sweet Baby James" is going to be delayed a while
September 15th, 2006

Well, it's not my fault, really.  My computer has, for whatever reason, decided to be a complete douchebag and stopped working.  I'm able to play a single video file, for the most part, without any problem.  But it's when I try to play two video files at the same time that I run into problems...the videos will freeze up and fall out of sync with each other, making me unable to do any proper comparisons.  I've tried every trick I have up my sleeve (including calling up Dell, which was another experience in and of itself), but nothing's been working so far.  So until I get my computer back up and running 100%, the comparisons will have to go on hiatus.

Luckily, there's a ton of other stuff that needs updating on this site, so I guess the silver lining to all this is that the neglected portions of my site will get their much-needed updates.  Today's update starts off with an update to the TV Schedule.  Some people have said that the way I have it formatted is difficult to read...do you guys agree or disagree?  If it's the latter, then send me an e-mail telling me what I could do to make it flow better.

I've also updated the Episode Guide with the correct air dates for the first three DP episodes.  It also has the title for the fifth DP episode, which will also be the last episode of PUSA's Season 9.  Finally, I've corrected a few things in the "Fear Factor Phony" comparison that was pointed out by the users over at Bulbagarden.

I'm not sure what the next update will be, but I should have something up within the next day or two.

Season 9:  Start
September 14th, 2006

Here's that "Fear Factor Phony" comparison you guys wanted.  This one's a bit long because of the PUSA switch, but future Battle Frontier comparisons won't be as wordy.  Hopefully.

I'll try to get "Sweet Baby James" up soon, but my computer's uncooperative nature may delay that one similar to the way it delayed the "Fear Factor Phony" comparison.  Part of me is saying "just increase your RAM," but another part of me is saying "Eff that, just go and make the switch over to Apple.  You've been 'effing around with Windows too much."

Decisions, decisions.

Episode Lists
September 12th, 2006

I've added the latest titles for Diamond/Pearl and Pokémon Battle Frontier to their respective Episode Lists.

"Big Meowth, Little Dreams"
September 11th, 2006

I've got the next-to-the-last comparison up for Pokémon Chronicles, "Big Meowth, Little Dreams," up for you guys.  Sorry it took so long to put up...I've just been really really busy lately.

Next up will be my comparison of "Fear Factor Phony."  If all goes well, it should be up tomorrow night, but I'm not making any promises.

"Trouble in Big Town"
September 8th, 2006

Here's the newest Chronicles comparison, "Trouble in Big Town."  I'm working hard to get the next two comparisons up before tonight's Season 9 premiere.

I've also added a note to "The Search for the Legend" about how the island in that episode is actually one of the Sevii islands.

EDIT:  Well, my computer's being uncooperative, so the comparisons will be delayed a bit.  I was able to do the bulk of the work for the "Big Meowth, Little Dreams" comparison, but I haven't had the chance to write it up yet (and I've gotta head out of here soon and won't be able to work on it until tomorrow after work).

Enjoy "Fear Factor Phony" tonight!

"Of Meowth and Pokémon"
September 6th, 2006

I gotta go to work, but before I do that, I'll go ahead and post the comparison for "Of Meowth and Pokémon" for you guys.

"The Heavenly Legend, Hiroshi and Fire!"
September 3rd, 2006

I've got "The Search for the Legend" up for you guys.

So far, so good...

TV Schedule
September 2nd, 2006

So apparently, when I say "I'll update the TV Schedule sometime tomorrow," I was lying through my teeth.  I really should stop saying I'll have an update up by a certain time if I can't actually follow through with that promise.

So it's two days late, but the TV Schedule is now up-to-date.  I've also updated the Episode Guide and rearranged a few things to make Diamond & Pearl the default Episode Guide page.

I would LOVE to have all the Chronicles episodes compared by the Season 9 premiere this Friday night, so I'll try my best to make sure that happens.  I've already watched "The Search for the Legend" and know that it won't take that long to actually write up, so hopefully the rest of Chronicles will be just as easy.

As far as Season 9 comparisons go...they won't be up right away.  I don't have cable now, so I'm going to have to wait for the episodes to become available online before I can actually sit down and do a comparison.  So at the earliest, we're looking at having an edit list for "Fear Factor Phony" up sometime Saturday night (though Sunday night may be more realistic, given my work schedule).  I'm sure that by then, everyone will have gone on message boards and reported on the major things (music, script, cut scenes), but my comparisons will still be worth a look if only for the fact that 90% of the text won't be "OMG teh nuu voicEs sUcxORs!!11!11!1"

Since I suck at keeping the deadlines I make for myself, I'll just say that I'll have the comparison for "The Search for the Legend" up soon.
