Romanized Japanese
English Translation
Minamo ni yureru hoshi no mabataki Ripples on the water, the flickering of stars.
Yo'ake no shizuku kusaki no shinfonii The dewdrops at dawn, a symphony of plants.
Yubisaki ni fureru chiisa na inochi
A small life, reaching out to grab fingertips.
Sumiwataru oozora sekai no tobira
The great clear sky above, the door to a new world.

Te no hira ni tsutau kodoku na kodou
There's a lonely throbbing you can feel through the palm of your hand.
Tomadoi au kokoro to kokoro
We'll be lost together, heart to heart.

Karada no moyou de kime tsukenai you ni
Try not to let the way you look decide for you.
Osore ni makasete tsume o tatenai you ni
Leave the scary stuff up to me so you don't have to bare your claws.

Itsu no ma ni ka se o nobite iku chi no katachi mo koe no nami mo
At some point you grew up, and the shape of your blood, the sound of your voice,
Matsuge sae mo kimi o shirusu koko ni ita akashi
...and even your eyelashes are  all proof that you're alive.

Kaze ni notte ame ni utare You ride with the wind, you get rained on,
Hikari o abite kimi o ikiru ...and have the sun shine down on you. You are alive.
Me o korashite mimi o sumasete
Squint your eyes, perk up your ears,
Yami o nukete kimi wa ikiru
...and leave the darkness, for you are alive.
Odoroku kurai takusan no iro to takusan no oto ni afureru sekai
There's a surprising array of colors and sounds overflowing in this world.
Ima te o tori daichi o fumu
Now when you take them in your hands and place your feet onto the ground,
Inochi no uta hibiki wataru
...the song of life rings out.

Suteki na basho deshou koko ni tatsu to
This place is great, isn't it? And if you stand right there...
Sekai no subete o nagameteiru mitai
...it's like you can see the whole world from up here.

Tsutaerareru koto wa ooku wa nai kedo
There aren't a lot of things I can teach you, but I can say
Onaji kuuki to keshiki o miteiru
...that we're looking at the same air and the same scenery.

Itsu no ma ni ka hakubo ni shiramu kumo no katachi wa nani ni mieru?
Before you realize it, the clouds turn white in the twilight. What shapes do you see?
Before you know it, you'll leave on a journey. But even then, you don't need to worry about being anything.

Kaze ni notte ame ni utare You ride with the wind, you get rained on,
Hikari o abite kimi o ikiro ...and have the sun shine down on you. Go out and live your life.
Me o korashite mimi o sumasete
Squint your eyes, perk up your ears,
Yami o nukete kimi wa ikiro
...leave the darkness, and go out and live your life.
Odoroku kurai takusan no iro to takusan no oto ni afurete irunda
There's a surprising array of colors and sounds overflowing,
Saa te o tori daichi o fumou inochi no uta hibikaseyou
So take them in your hands, let's put our feet on the ground, and let the song of life ring out.

The song's artist, Beverly, issued this statement after the song was announced:

Beverly

"When I was a kid my days would start with me watching Pokémon with my family as we ate breakfast. Everyone in my family loved Pokémon and it became my introduction to Japanese entertainment as a whole and so it's a cartoon that I felt very familiar with. So when I heard that I'd be working on a song for the new movie my heart was filled with something even greater than happiness. By singing this song for the Pokémon cartoon I hope I can pay it back for teaching me so much about Japanese culture. This time, I'm giving everything I've got to sing the opening theme "Koko" that was written and composed by one of my favorite people, Mr. Okazaki Physical Education, so please look forward to it!"
