"Movie Time! Zorua in 'The Legend of the Pokémon Knight'!"
October 27th, 2011

Dogasu @ 23:15 JST --  Well, I sure am glad I ended my previous mark with a question mark!

Here's the comparison for "Movie Time! Zorua in 'The Legend of the Pokémon Knight'!"

"Movie Time! Zorua in 'The Legend of the Pokémon Knight'!"

So anyway, Kotaku ran a review of Nintendo 3DS game "Pok
émon Rumble Blast."  I'm not going to link to the review because I don't want to give them the pageviews, but the gist of their explanation is that "One of us hasn't actually gotten around to playing it yet, and another one's only played it for about an hour.  But since it's not a new entry in the main series, we're going to assume it's crap and not worth your time.  Don't buy it."  So basically, don't listen to them.

I will be happy, however, to link you guys to Tuesday's Gil Thorp comic, in which this panel appears:

Gil Thorp

The newspaper strip is doing a storyline about Asperger's syndrome, for some reason.  And even though Pok
émon was name dropped, I have a feeling Rubin and Whigham have no idea that the creator of the franchise has the disorder himself

I'll try to get this week's comparison up as soon as I can, but this weekend, with it being Halloween time and all, is pretty booked.

Just a little bit longer...
October 23rd, 2011

Dogasu @ 23:04 JST --  So the episode that aired in the US yesterday sure is taking its time getting online.  I wonder what the hold up is?

In the meantime, here's a few other updates.

Volume 07 Volume 08 Box Set 04

First, the DVD Guide's been updated.  The cover art for Volumes Seven and Eight of Pokémon DP Galactic Battles have been added to the appropriate page.

I've also updated the page for the Best Collection DVDs with the correct release date for the second Best Wishes batch.  They're coming out January 18th of next year, not December 1st of this year.  Sorry about that.

I've added
information on the extras that will be made available on the DVDs and Blu-Rays for the Victini movies to the Region 2 Movies & Pikachu Shorts page.  The Japanese Amazon site has the same extras listed for both the DVD and the Blu-Ray, so what you see listed there might be all we end up getting.  I hope the Blu-Ray gets more since the extra space is one of the advantages of the format, but I'm not going to hold my breath on that after hearing about some of the other bare bones Blu-Rays Japan's put out in the past.

PokePark 2

I've also updated the Wii page in the Video Games section with the release date for the new PokéPark game.  My money's already promised to a bunch of the other high profile games coming out at around the same time, so I doubt I'll be picking this one up anytime soon.

As soon as I can get my hands on the English version of yesterday's episode, I'll finish the comparison for "Movie Time! Zorua in 'The Legend of the Pokémon Knight'!"  Hopefully it'll be up sometime tomorrow?

"A Fishing Connoisseur in a Fishy Competition!"
October 18th, 2011

Dogasu @ 23:24 JST --  Hey!  Here's the comparison for the episode that aired in the U.S. on Saturday, "A Fishing Connoisseur in a Fishy Competition!"

"A Fishing Connoisseur in a Fishy Competition!"

I also made a page called Japanese Episode BW 037 - The Post 3/11 Edits that goes in-depth into the various edits made to the episode to retcon it into a later part of the series.  I did the majority of the work for that page before Saturday morning so I'd have it ready to post for you guys as soon as possible, but it still ended up taking longer than I had hoped.  Whoops!  Anyway, I hope you find it useful!

"Archeops in the Modern World!"
October 12th, 2011

Dogasu @ 23:50 JST --  So I'm done with the comparisons I promised watchermark, so what next?  Well, my research shows that most of you guys want me to push on ahead with Black & White before going back to doing more Kanto comparisons, so I'm going to start working on some Season 14 episodes now.  First up is the episode that aired this past Saturday, "Archeops in the Modern World!"

"Archeops in the Modern World!"

The reason I chose to do this one is I thought it'd be nice to do an episode that's still fresh in you guys' memories.  My plan - which will probably fall apart very quickly, knowing me - is to work on the current Black & White comparisons on the weekends and work on the older Black & White episodes during the week.  The only reason this comparison is up as late as it is is because I've been sick the past two days; normally, I plan to have the new comparison up by Monday or Tuesday at the latest.

I've also updated the List of TV Episodes with a bunch of new titles, both Japanese and English.

"A Pyramiding Rage!"
October 9th, 2011

Dogasu @ 13:24 JST --  The final comparison I promised watchermark back in January is finally ready to be posted!  Take a look at the comparison for "A Pyramiding Rage!"

"A Pyramiding Rage!"

It's kind of weird how these contest comparisons ended up working out since they got progressively easier to do.  "Charizard's Burning Ambitions" was difficult and time consuming, "Throwing The Track Switch" was a lot easier than the Charizard episode, and "A Pyramiding Rage!" was even easier than that.

I've added links to the three comparisons to the page that contains the entry that won watchermark the comparisons in the first place.

I want to thank watchermark for being so incredibly patient during his ten month wait for these comparisons.  He never once sent me any angry messages or told me to hurry the fuck up even though he had every right to do so.  He's been completely cool about the whole thing and I can't thank him enough for being so understanding.  I hope these comparisons were worth the wait.

I've also added a paragraph to the comparison for "Charizard's Burning Ambitions" in regards to a poem Musashi quotes in the first half of the episode.  I also removed the Ponyta / Gallop note from the "Throwing The Track Switch" comparison.

Now that these three have been finished, I think I might start working on all those Best Wishes comparisons I'm so behind on.

A new set of DVDs
October 7th, 2011

Dogasu @ 00:20 JST --  In December, the second batch of "Best Collection" DVDs will be coming out.

This wave contains eight more Best Wishes episodes and eight more Kanto episodes.  I'm not really excited about the former because watching HD episodes in standard definition destroys my eyes, but the fact that they're throwing in eight more Kanto episodes makes me think that their inclusion in the previous batch wasn't just a one-off thing.  Do we dare hope that they'll include them in every other set that comes out??  Nearly eighty episodes of Diamond & Pearl were eventually released on these "Best Collection" DVDs, so I'm hoping we'll get just as many Kanto episodes this time around.  Fingers crossed!

It's a good thing I've been so slow getting around to doing more Kanto comparisons, actually.  Being able to go into, say, the "The Song of Jigglypuff" comparison with DVD quality screenshots will be a win-win for all of us.

So anyway, I've updated the page for the Best Collection DVDs as well as the So which episodes are available on DVD in Japan, anyway? page.

Speaking of comparisons, I'm very, very close to finishing the comparison for "A Pyramiding Rage!"
