"Some Enchanted Sweetening!" September 30th, 2007 I would have had this up earlier, but I got lazy and decided to play Tales of Phantasia instead. And watch Japanese game shows. And read Dragon Ball :P So here's the comparison for "Some Enchanted Sweetening!" It's the second episode in the past three weeks to get a scene cut, so go click on the link to find out what you're missing. The next update should be in a few days. "The Cramp Twins!" September 29th, 2007 So today, I finally catch up to PUSA. "The Champ Twins!" is now up for your enjoyment. What will the next comparison be? I...haven't decided yet. But I have a pretty good idea :) "Drifloon On The Wind!" September 28th, 2007 Hey! My Internet's working for the moment! I'd better take advantage of that and update the site! Here's the comparison for "Drifloon In The Wind!" The episode has a 27-second cut, so click on the link there to find out what PUSA removed from the episode. I've also added a dialogue edit to the "Getting The Pre-Contest Titters!" comparison that I forgot to add last time. Finally, I've updated the Episode List to include the clip show that aired last night. "The Champ Twins!" just finished downloading an hour ago, so I'll start working on that and will upload the comparison as soon as my Internet permits me. Several updates combined into one! September 26th, 2007 Sorry about the late update. The Internet at my apartment has been extremely uncooperative lately. But I can't expect much since I'm basically just piggybacking off my neighbor's connection until I can get my own service set up. So that movie DVD box set? Nowhere to be found. I went to reserve the DVD box set as soon as I posted the previous update. The last time I checked (Wednesday night), they were taking pre-orders. But Thursday? Apparently not. So, I couldn't reserve it. So I go to the nearby electronics stores on Friday and Saturday to try to find the sets, but I had no luck. It doesn't seem like anyone's carrying this thing even though they all had the big advertisement posters hanging on their walls. There's one more big place I can check (it's about an hour's bike ride from my apartment, though...). If they don't have it, I don't know where else to get it. Maybe I'll have to end up taking a trip to Tokyo one weekend? So I didn't get the movie DVD boxset. From what I'm hearing, though, at least the first three movies have the English dub and English subtitles on it. The people who have gotten the sets already haven't gotten to the fourth or fifth movies yet, so there's no word on how those are. While I'm on the subject of DVD's, the box art and release date for the third Indigo box set has been revealed, courtesty of RightStuf. So, I've updated the Indigo DVD page. My comments about this set? One, the cover for this one is even more absurd than the cover for the second set. I mean, Machop? Really? Raichu...sorta-kinda makes sense (though not really), and Charmander being there when Charizard's there is weird, but...Machop? What is he doing there? Other than that, the box says it contains Episodes 53-79 which include the infamous "Holiday Hi-Jynx." I would have thought that the episode would have gotten removed due to the controversy, but I guess not. Finally, if you look at the list on the DVD page, it looks like one of the discs is going to have a whopping ten episodes on it. I'm having horrible flashbacks of the Orange Island discs with their eleven grainy, VHS fansub-quality episodes per disc and am praying that this set at least looks somewhat better. The third Indigo League boxset will be released on February 18th, 2008. So you're probably wondering what I have in store for you today since I can't do the big DVD review that I had planned on doing. Well, my CD wallets with Japanese episodes in it came in the mail last week, so I've been busy working on episode comparisons! So here's "Faced With Steelix Determination!," "Cooking Up A Great Story!," "Getting The Pre-Contest Titters!," and "Settling A Not-So-Old Score!" for you guys. I'll have two more comparisons to do before I'm caught up with the dub, and then I'll be able to do some backtracking. Oh Do You Know The Poffin Plan? September 20th, 2007 I know it's still September 19th in the States. But I'm going by Japan time now. Whee. Anyway, here's "Oh Do You Know The Poffin Plan!." Good episode, boring comparison. Oh well. The alternative is for PUSA to start making edits, and none of us really want that, do we? The CD wallet with all my Japanese episodes should be arriving in the mail either at the end of this week or the beginning of next. So it won't be long before I can start playing catch-up. Also, a bit of news here...apparently, Australia's getting Pokemon Battle Revolution on November 11th while Europe gets it on December 7th. I don't have the game myself (and have no plans of getting it), but from what I hear, it's pretty bad. Ah well. I'm sure you guys will be getting the same version we got with the bizarro-Jynx Rosie and all that. I'm going to go now to reserve that movie DVD box set. I know it's coming out tomorrow, but they're still accepting pre-orders, apparently. Episode Lists, DVD stuff September 18th, 2007 Hello everyone from the land of Japan! A land where there isn't a single Halo 3 advertisment in sight. Isn't that exciting? So here's the big Episode Lists update I was talking about earlier. Here's what I've done to the Kanto, Orange Islands, and Jouto lists:
This update was extremely time-consuming and tedious as hell, but it's finally done with. There are a few things that need to be tweaked (the Housoukyoku and Sunday pages, for starters), but for the most part, I've done everything that I meant to do years ago. Whoo hoo. I know this was an extremely boring update for you guys, so I'll have a new comparison up for you guys next time. In the meantime, check out the cover art for the second Indigo DVD box set. Aside from the humorous choice of pokemon (Look! It's James' unevolved pokemon and Jessie's...evolved pokemon?), there's a bit of text I want to point out to you guys. It's kind of hard to see, but at the top, it says "The last 26 episodes on 3 DVDs! Over 9 hours of Pokémon fun!" So the big question here is...what do they mean by "the last 26 episodes?" Do they just mean the last half of Season One? Or are they saying that these are the "last" episodes as in "these are the last episodes we're putting out on a boxset, period." I hope it's the former because if it's the latter, there's going to be a whole lot of Kanto left over that won't be accounted for in these releases. I guess we'll find out around this time next year (since that's the rate Viz seems to be putting these out at), but in the meantime I'm dying to know what the fate of these sets are. As much as I abhor dub-only TV edit DVD's, I still look forward to these DVD's since...well, they're all we have, really. The old DVD's that came out in the late 90's are virtually impossible to find, and Japan doesn't seem to be in any hurry to release these episodes on DVD anytime soon. (Credit for the image, by the way, goes to the RightStuf site). Also...whatever happened to those Battle Frontier box sets the official site promised us? This Friday, those two Dragon Boxes Region 2 movie DVD boxsets come out. I'll try to pick up a copy of the first set on Friday and start diving into that, providing screencaps and packaging pictures and all that good stuff. This weekend will be a three-day weekend, so I should be able to get through all of them without any problem. I'll have to wait until after payday to get the second one, unfortunately, but the five movies contained in that first set should be enough to keep me busy for quite a while. Argh September 12th, 2007 Well, my Internet connection continues to suck and not be reliable. It should only be another two or three weeks before I get my own Internet service (I have to get my alien registration card first...), so until then the updates will be scarce. Today, I've got the video game updates I promised in the last update. Information about Diamond & Pearl, the new Mysterious Dungeon games, Pokemon Battle Revolution, and Smash Brothers Brawl are now up. It's not much (I meant to post pictures of Lapura in both the Japanese and the American versions of Pokemon Battle Revolution, for example), but for now it'll have to do. (By the way...does anyone know what WiFi features the new Mysterious Dungeon games have? I can't find anything about that anywhere). I've also added new episode titles to the Episode List. Speaking of the Episode List, I've been working on overhauling the Kanto, Orange Islands, and Jouto Episode Lists. If you look at those pages as they are now, you'll see lots of bad translations (Masera Town? Really?), inconsistent romanizations, and some titles that just weren't translated at all. Well, I'm almost finished cleaning all that up, but it'll probably be another day or so before I'm ready to upload the new lists. I know it's not an update you guys will really look forward to, but it's something that's necessary, in my opinion. It needed to be done a long time ago, and getting this out of the way will make me feel better about doing other, more fun updates. If it makes you guys feel any better, I was able to find DP 025 on my USB flash drive (no idea what it's doing on there), so it looks like I will be able to do a comparison after the Episode List update. I guess I'll end this post with two bits of news. First of all, the second Mysterious Dungeon special aired on TV-Tokyo this past Sunday. Luckily, TV-Tokyo's AniTele site will be streaming the episode starting September 13th, so that'll be pretty awesome. The episode will remain on the site until September 30th. Secondly, those big movie DVD boxsets come out on the 20th over here in Japan. If you aren't aware of what those are, check out my July 9th update. When I get the set (because you know I have to ^_- ), I'll post pictures and my thoughts about the box set. I may even do some comparison shots between the single disc releases and the new boxset release to see if there's any difference in the video quality! Back... September 3rd, 2007 *waves* First of all, I'd like to thank everyone who's sent messages of support during the family issue that's prevented me from updating this site. There's not a whole lot that can be done at this point, but at least I got to spend some quality time with my relative before she passes on. So what have I been up to lately, other than family stuff? Why moving to Japan, of course! I arrived in the country on the 24th and, after a few days' sightseeing and orientation, have settled into my new apartment. I'm in the Kantou region, and though I can't find my city on this map, it's not too far from Ibaraki. For right now, I'm more or less settled down. I think the Internet connection I'm using right now is actually my neighbor's, so its reliability isn't too high. I can't get my own Internet service until I register for my gaijin card on Wednesday, so I can't make any kind of regular update schedule for a while. Oh well. I also won't be able to afford a scanner for my computer until my first paycheck (October 20th!!), so I can't do too much with any manga until then. I didn't have room in my luggage for all the CD's containing my copies of the Japanese episodes, so until those get sent over, I won't be able to do any comparisons. I know none of this is "great" news, but I thought it'd be better to tell you what I can and can't do in the following weeks rather than make empty promises. I really, really do want to return to a regular update schedule, but that may not be possible for a little while yet. Please continue to be patient. For today, I've added some new episode titles, both Japanese and English. That summer of reruns sure did fly by fast, didn't it? For now, it looks like Cartoon Network is sticking to a twice-a-Saturday schedule, but I don't expect CN to be able to resist having daily premieres for long. I've also updated the DP Movie 01 page with box office info (it's currently out of the top five) and a track listing for the film's soundtrack. All I have to say about the latter is...who the hell came up with the title for Track 16? For the next update, I think I'll do a video game update. Changes made to the English version of Diamond & Pearl, info about Smash Bros. Brawl and Mystery Dungeon 2, and pictures of the "bizarro Rougela" Rosie got in the American version of Battle Revolution will all be covered.
