"Cutting the Ties That Bind" May 27, 2007 VG Cats makes me laugh. So I've finally started on catching up with all those Battle Frontier episodes I've missed. First up is "Cutting the Ties That Bind." I've also added a credit to the "School of Hard Knocks" comparison that I forgot to add yesterday. Whoops. Hopefully, I'll have "Ka Boom with a View" up tomorrow. "First you kick it in Kanto~" May 26, 2007 So on Wednesday I had an interview with a Japanese company for a job teaching English in Japan. After deliberating for about a day, the company decided to hire me, meaning I'll be heading over to Japan in mid- or late- August. I don't know what city I'll be in, but I do know that it'll be somewhere in Kantou (not to be confused with Kanto). What will that mean for this site? Not a whole lot, really. Since I have a laptop now (something I didn't have when I went back in 2004), everything else will more or less be the same. Well, there will be more updates from the Japanese side of things (especially where manga and CD releases are concerned), but that'll be about it. My contract will last until March 2008 with a possibility of renewal, so I should hopefully still be in the country for the second Diamond & Pearl movie. And maybe the third. Unfortunately, I'll need to save up every penny I can between now and the time I leave, so I won't have the money to buy whatever new products might be coming out in the next few months. But that's enough about me. For today, I went through and cleaned up the first nine Kanto comparisons. The big differences are in the Episodes 004, 006, and 009 comparisons. I've also added bigger versions of the paint edit pictures in 009, so now you can get a bigger view of 4Kids' digital paint. Pokémon Chronicles: Complete May 21, 2007 One thing that's been bothering me for a while is the fact that I was one episode short of having an edit list of every single Pokémon Chronicles episode. I couldn't do anything about it because my computer wouldn't let me, but know that everything's back at 100%, I was able to get it done. So please take the time to read the comparison for the final episode of Pokémon Chronicles. So now, I've done all of Houen, all of Chronicles, all of Diamond & Pearl that's been dubbed, and almost all the movies and TV specials. I'll work on getting the Battle Frontier episodes finished off and then get back to work on those old Kanto comparisons. Busy busy busy. How many links do I need to have in one post? May 16th, 2007 I've got an actual update plus a whole bunch of random comments. First of all, I've posted the lyrics to Together and Kimi no Soba de ~Hikari no Teema~, the opening and closing themes to Pocket Monsters Diamond & Pearl, in the Lyrics Section. I also tweaked the front page to make it not as ugly. I've done a rough translation of the two songs, but I'm going to have a few people look over them before I post them. And now for the miscellaneous stuff. For starters, I just got my eighth gym badge in Pokémon Pearl today. Whoo. Secondly, there's a rumor going around that Nintendo Power, the magazine that printed Pokémon Mystery Dungeon - Ginji's Rescue Team for six issues, is shutting down soon. Apparently, employees who aren't being affected by the company's pending layoffs are being told to look for new work by September. I've been reading Nintendo Power off and on since that first issue (Super Mario Bros. 2 was the feature game...God I feel old), so I'll be sad if this rumor is indeed true. Third of all, Kotaku had a news story about this book entitled Pikachu's Global Adventure - The Rise and Fall of Pokémon. The book has apparently been out for three years, but I guess it just sort of fell through the cracks. It's basically a collection of essays written by a bunch of anthropologists about the phenomenon, and the anthropology student in me can't wait to read it. I'm particularly interested in the articles How "Japanese" Is Pokémon?, Localizing the Pokémon TV Series for the American Market, and Masculinity, Maturity, and the End of Pokémon, but I'm sure the other articles are just as interesting. Amazon's page lets you read the table of contents and a few sample pages, so be sure to check that out. Fourth of all...I've updated some of the DP pages (Episode List, comparisons, etc.) with the romanizations I settled on a few updates back. Fifth of all, my local FYE broke the street date for the Tenth Anniversary Box Set because it was sitting there on the shelf, ready for purchase. It looks like the 11-disc set takes up slightly less shelf space than that first Indigo box set, so I guess that's one check mark to put in the "Reasons to Buy This Release" column. Finally...expect another update sometime tomorrow. New Title May 15th, 2007 Well, I wanted to have something up today... A new Episode Title's been added to the Episode List. Tomorrow I'll post the lyrics to the opening and ending themes to Diamond & Pearl, possibly with translations. Pokemon List - Now with Diamond & Pearl pokemon! May 14th, 2007 This is way overdue and has been posted by every other site on the Internet, but I felt that I should go ahead and update the Pokemon List on this site with all of the pokemon that debuted in Diamond & Pearl. Some of the romanizations that I'll be using won't match the ones others are using (i.e. Röntora), but I have a reason for each romanization that I chose, so if you disagree with some of them or think they're outright wrong, I'd love to know. I do plan to go back and change the names on a few pages to be consistent with that list, so the site won't have any DP name oddities for too much longer. I've also posted the schedule for the Pokémon marathon Cartoon Network will be having on the 2nd and 3rd of March. All I did was copy and paste the schedule on a few message boards and on this site...the person that everyone should be thanking for this information is Duke over at Toon Zone. He's the one who found the titles and typed everything up, so make sure you give him credit if you decide to copy this information. With any luck, I hope to have another update ready for you guys tomorrow. DVD Stuff May 8th, 2007 This update's not as exciting as the last one, but I didn't want to have this site without an update for too long now. I've updated the DVD listing for Advanced Battle with better cover art for the final two volumes and the correct episode listings for those discs. With these two discs, all of Season 8 has been released on DVD, so now we've just to wait to see when PUSA's going to start releasing any of their Season 9 DVD's (if at all). I've also made a correction in the "Two Degrees of Separation" and "When Pokémon Worlds Collide" comparisons. Apparently, those first three D/P episodes have already aired as separate episodes with all the cut footage intact, but I haven't been able to get a copy of the TV versions to verify that. I've gotten several e-mails stating that PUSA changed the title card music and sort of flips between the old Kanto title screen music (-_-) to a new piece of music made for the dub, so as soon as I can verify that I'll let you guys know. Thanks to Duke and a bunch of other people for pointing those mistakes out to me. I have the next two days off of work, so hopefully I'll have time to do a good content update during my breaks from my Pokémon Pearl game. New comparisons!!! May 4th, 2007 Like I said in my last update, my laptop's back from the shop, so I tested it out to see if it can handle running two .avi files at the same time. And it looks like I'm back in business. I've got not one, not two, but three new comparisons for you guys. It took me the better part of a day and a half to do these, so I hope I didn't miss anything in my comparisons for "Following a Maiden Voyage!," "Two Degrees of Separation!," and "When Pokémon Worlds Collide." I'd love to hear feedback on these, so send me an e-mail if you get a chance. Now that my computer's fully functional again, I'm going to go back and catch up on all those Battle Frontier episodes I missed, but not before I get a few other things out of the way first. Like giving the list of D/P pokemon the update it sorely needs. "Following a Maiden Voyage"...coming tomorrow? May 2nd, 2007 I haven't updated in a few days because my laptop was getting serviced by the Best Buy Geek Squad. After keeping it for about a week, they returned it back to me, and right now my computer seems to be back at 100%. I don't have the time to check everything out now, but I'm going to try doing a comparison off of two .avi files tomorrow to see if everything really is up to speed. If everything works out, expect a comparison for "Following a Maiden Voyage" sometime in the next day or two. While I was waiting for my laptop, I went ahead and picked up a copy of Pokémon Pearl. I've had it since Thursday and just got my third badge earlier this morning (which is actually fast for me), so I'm slowly but surely getting through the game. Since I've got my laptop back, I can now start doing some stuff with the game online, so maybe I'll get a chance to battle/trade with some of you in the future. For now, the update I have are new D/P episode titles up on the Episode List.
