DVD's are fun
July 29th, 2005

Sorry about the recent downtime.  My site got lost when Bulbagarden (this website's host) was moved, so that delayed the update I have for you guys today.

I've gone through the first five Advance Generation comparisons and made a number of updates, most of which have to do with making them more consistent with my later comparisons.  I have managed to replace all the images with higher-quality versions, including a picture of the edited badge case in the third episode taken straight from the Region 1 DVD.  I plan to put more DVD caps up soon.

You may also notice that there's a poll at the bottom of this front page.  In the past two weeks, I've only gotten two e-mails voting for the next manga to be featured on the site, so I've determined that you guys need a quicker, easier way to give me feedback.  So now that you don't have any reason to not cast a vote, I hope that all of you with an opinion on the matter will take the two seconds necessary to pick a manga and vote for one.

I will make my decision for the next manga to be featured on August 7th at midnight (Eastern Time).

Another year, another Harry Potter book finished
July 27th, 2005

I didn't get a whole lot updated this time, but these sections needed to be updated all the same.

All the Episode Guides have been updated with the latest titles, and the TV Schedule has been updated as well.  Unfortunately, Cartoon Network tends to be very spontaneous with their schedule changes (last night's episode of Pokémon Master Quest was pre-empted for an episode of Camp Lazlo), so the network may change what they air at the last second.

"Sky High Gym Battle!"
July 22nd, 2005

I've completed the comparison for "Sky High Gym Battle!"  Whoo.  I'll try to get "A Fan with a Plan" up for you guys after I finish the new Harry Potter book, which really shouldn't take me long at all.

I've also revised the General Edits page, since the old version of that page was horribly written and out-of-date.  The main thing I've added to that page is a bit about the edit Cartoon Network makes to the Master Quest episodes they're premiering at the moment.

Manga-Pippi is a male, dammit!

Here's "Lights, Camerupt, Action!" for you guys.  Enjoy.

It's time to rest, my poor, poor scanner...
July 15th, 2005

So you're probably wondering why I haven't updated in almost a week.  Have I been too busy?  Lazy?  Have I been spending too much time playing my GameCube?  Actually, that isn't the case at all; I've been working this on a new section for my website all week.  And now, it's finally ready:  a section devoted to the original Pocket Monsters manga!

For those of you who don't know what this is, it's one of the first Pocket Monsters-themed manga to be published in Japan.  It's really really popular over there, but the few people who know about it in the U.S. nickname it "the manga with that scary Clefairy."  I've read message board posts where people bash the manga because of its "Dragon Ball Z-like artwork" (which really isn't accurate AT ALL) and wonder if it's even considered to be an official manga, thinking that something "that ugly" can't possibly be anything but doujinshi.  I think a lot of the hatred for the series comes from the fact that nobody really knows anything about it, and all they have to base their opinion of the series on is a few scans floating around on the Internet here and there.  Hopefully, the section I post tonight will open people's eyes to this wonderful manga and encourage more people to check it out for themselves.

And you know what?  This is only the beginning.  My dream at the moment is to focus on a different manga each month, similar to the way I did with the Pocket Monsters manga this month.  I want to let people know that there's more out there than Pokemon Special and hopefully put a rest to a lot of misinformation floating around the Internet about these various series.  Here are the different manga I plan to focus on in the future:
  • Satoshi and Pikachu - A manga that adapts episiodes of the anime into manga form.  It's not as sexually charged as Toshihiro Ono's manga, but it does take a few liberties here and there.  The guy who did this manga also did the Deoxys movie manga.
  • Movie AG 01 - A manga adaptation of the Jirachi movie.  It stays closer to the anime than the Deoxys manga did.
  • Card Master - Think Yu-Gi-Oh! with Pokemon cards.
  • Golden Boys - The trainers from the Gold / Silver / Crystal area travel through the land of Jouto in an all-new adventure.  I really like the artwork in this one.
  • 4-Koma - A series of four-panel gag comics.
  • Emerald - A young Rokon trainer battles his way through the Battle Frontier.
  • Pocket Monsters Zensho - I already have a section on this, but if I featured this manga, I would add more scans and fix up my synopsis.
  • PiPiPi Adventures - Same as above; I would add character bios and try to add information from the volumes that Viz didn't get around to translating.
  • Pokemon Pikachu and Nyasu's Big Adventure - A cutesy manga for kids about Pikachu and Nyasu.  I only have one chapter of this manga, so I wouldn't be able to tell you guys too much about it.
  • ...or, more Pocket Monsters information.
So if any of you guys have a Pokemon manga in mind for me to feature for the month of August (and no, I'm not doing Pokemon Special; you can go to Serebii.net if you want to read about that series), e-mail me or send me a PM on the various message boards I visit (Bulbagarden, Pokemasters, Serebii.net, and Toonzone) and cast your vote.

I plan to have a comparison for "Lights, Camerupt, Action" up tomorrow morning.  I'll go back and do the second part of the Hiwamaki City Gym Battle another day.

Where did all my tapes go?
July 11th, 2005

You know what?  I can't find any of the episodes I had on tape.  I looked all over the place, but I can't find my tape that has "Grass Hysteria," "Hokey Pokeballs," "Whishcash and Ash," and "Me, Myself and Time" on it.  It doesn't look like I'm going to, either, so those will have to wait until Kids' WB! reruns those episodes again.

However, I did manage to get a comparison up for "Manectric Charge," which fills in the gap left in the Houen League list rather nicely.  I've also updated the Episode Guide for Advanced Generation and Pokemon Sunday, and I've updated the TV Schedule.  Cartoon Network is going to start airing Pokémon again starting tonight, so be sure you catch it if you want to see episodes that Kids' WB! won't show anymore.

I'll try to get "Sky High Gym Battle!" up before too long, but before I do that I'll be working on a new feature for this site.

It's been a while...
July 5th, 2005

Sorry I haven't updated in a few days.  I've had family come down unexpectantly for the weekend, so I was busy with them all this time.

Anyway, I couldn't find my tape with "Grass Hysteria" on it, so I went with Plan B:  I went in and revised one of the comparisons I did during a live airing (without being able to rewind and check things I may have missed).  So, "The Bicker the Better" has been revised with a few time edits that I missed.  I'll keep looking for "Grass Hysteria," but if I can't find it, then I'll go ahead and go back over "Hokey Pokeballs," "Whishcash and Ash," and "Me, Myself and Time."  I'll continue in that fashion until Friday, when I should be able to do a comparision for "Manectric Charge."

I've also gotten all of Pokemon Advanced on DVD since my last update, so I'll post DVD screenshots of edited scenes within the next week or so.
