Lists and Such
Friday, December 24th, 2001

Hey all.  I hope everyone has had success in finding presents for everyone and getting ready for tomorrow.  So what do I have for you today?

Well, first of all, I've changed some of the romanizations in the Pokemon English-Japanese List.  Since I've finished my first semester of an official Japanese class (and not just me sitting in my room pouring over a hiragana/katakana chart), I know a little more about romanizations (like ji + yo = jo, not jyo).  So the names should be a lot more correct now.  I've also updated the Manga Releases page with some more dates.  That section will get a proper update soon, just as soon as I can get my scanner working.  And with any luck, my friend in Japan can send me a few manga, so I'm keeping my fingers crossed.

Um...what else?  I have three new episode comparisons, for Episodes 22-24, but no one really likes episode comparisons, do they?  Of course not ^_^.  And finally, I've updated the CD Guide in the Lyrics Section.  I hope you guys all like this, and I hope everyone has a Merry Christmas!

Specials Section now up!
Sunday, December 16th, 2001

It's been way too long since I've had a huge chunk of news to deliver, but now that I do it feels great.  There's a new subsection to the Movies Section for the TV specials and OVA's, so go take a look.  I really put in a lot of work into it, so I hope you enjoy!  I have plot synopses, pictures, and additional info.  I'm really proud of the Raikou special information, even though a bunch of other sites have already posted information about it.  Anyway, there's lots of good stuff to read, and hopefully you'll learn something too!  Enjoy!

Also, I plan on getting the Mewtwo Returns DVD soon.  I've seen the VHS of it everywhere, but not the DVD--I'm going to Suncoast soon, hopefully, so it should be there.  Anyway, I've heard that it contains the uncut "Birth of Mewtwo" thing, and that 4Kids renamed Ai "Amber."  Whatever.  Anyway, I hope you enjoy the new stuff!

@#%$ mp3's!
Friday, December 14th, 2001

Ooh, I'm peeved right now...

I'm sure a lot of you went to download those mp3's I had just "fixed."  And I'm sure a number of you were disappointed to find that none of them worked (except the two Type:  Wild songs).  Me too.  Basically, the Tripod account I had put them on was deleted for "violation of the terms of agreement."  And after looking through a bunch of sites' Terms of Agreement, they all pretty much say the same thing--mp3's are strictly forbidden.

So what does all this mean?  It means I have to take down all the mp3's.  The only way I can have them on the site is if I buy a domain name.  Then I'd have unlimited space to put mp3's, movies, or whatever else I wanted.  But the problem is is that I don't have an extra hundred and some dollars to pay for a domain name.  I'm a college student, and college students are poor.  So it's quite unlikely I can have mp3's or any other sort of media on the site for a long while, if ever.

Yeah, I know, it sucks.  Japanese Pocket Monsters songs, particularly the newer ones, are really hard to find on-line.  And this is the perfect site to house such songs.  But thems the breaks.

Well, I did do something for this update--I've fudged around with the Humor section.  I really need to make two pages--one for the Pokemon Bashing and one for the Humor.  But that would mean changing the sidebar, which is a huge pain in the arse.  Anyway, I've gone in to each page and fiddled around with the layout a bit and have added a few things here and there.  The most notable changes occur on the Pokemon is Racist page.  I've also got a new Christmas layout, so that's spiffy.  I'll have more updates soon since my month-long winter break has officially started, so keep visiting!

Fixed mp3's
Tuesday, December 11th, 2001

I have a quick update before I begin my super mega exam crunch--I've fixed the links on many of the mp3's.  Basically, I'm only going to have a few up per month or so, and then I'll replace those with different ones.  By rotating the mp3's that way, I can have a variety of songs on my site without having to go out and buy a domain just to house a bunch of song files (which take up a lot of space).  So let's see how it all turns out.

So for the record, this month I have Type:  Wild (Japanese), Type:  Wild (English), Lucky Lucky, Nyasu's Song, Atarashii Tomodachi, Rivals! (Movie Version), and toi et moi.  Head on over to the CD Guide (by way of the Lyrics Page) to download them.  These songs were chosen by visitors of this site, and so if you have a song request, e-mailthem to me.  I'll be making a bunch over the holidays, so just ask me if I can get a song and I'll see what I can do.

Tiny, Quick Update
Monday, December 10th, 2001

Hi everyone!  I’m just checking in with a small update--I’ve updated the Episode Guide with a bunch of new Japanese episode titles.  I also added something to the Episode 20 comparison--just a small note about the penny edit.  It’s amazing what you think about walking to a CVS, isn’t it?

Also, the Mewtwo Returns special is out now.  I’ve heard mixed reviews--some love it, others hate it.  The DVD supposedly has the entire “Birth of Mewtwo” (instead of just part of it, like the first movie had).  I’ve also heard that they completely redid the soundtrack (like the movies), recycling the first movie’s soundtrack and adding in some other music.  Other than that…well, I’m not finished yet, so you’ll have to wait to see what I have in store for you guys.

Episode Comparisons!?
Thursday, December 6th, 2001

The other day I was online and bored, so I typed my site’s name (Dogasu’s English-Japanese Pokemon Page--yeah, I know, I really need a new title) into a bunch of search engines.  I do this every now and then, to see if anyone’s linked to me, if people are talking about it on message boards, whatever.  It’s a good self-esteem booster most of the time, when people link to my site and say stuff like “this is a really good site with a lot of useful information.”  It really makes my day to know that what I’m doing means something to someone.

So anyway, I’m looking around and come across a message board where someone said something that caught my attention--the people were talking about Yu-Gi-Oh, and my site’s name popped up for the rant that’s posted about it (the one Alan Tse wrote).  Anyway, the person who linked to the rant talked about what it was, and then said something to the effect of “And it’s on Dogasu’s site, so you know he’s complaining about it J.”  Yeah, it had the smiley on at the end too.

So that got me thinking…do I really complain that much?  I know the smiley face at the end was there to soften the blow, but it still bothered me.  I mean, the main part where I do the complaining on this site is in the Episode Comparisons (and a little in the Humor/Bashing section, which is long overdue for an update), and Episode Comparisons by nature are really nothing more than long complaints.  But I do try to sprinkle in my fair share of “I liked this” or “This was changed, but it’s no big deal.”  What do you think?  Do I really need to calm down and try to tone it down, or should I just keep going on the way I’m doing?

Anyway, on to the goodies.  I have a new batch of episode comparisons up for you guys, for Episodes 17-21.  I don’t really have Episode 16 up (since I don’t have the Japanese episode), I just have a summary of the episode up, a la Episodes 5, 7, and 8.  Speaking of those episodes, I’m thiiiiiis close to going out and buying the videos with those episodes on it myself instead of waiting for Kids’ WB! to air them.  I mean, I’ve been looking around for them to air on Kids’ WB! for the past few months now, and so far it hasn’t shown up on any schedules.  In fact, none of the earlier episodes are being shown anymore--it’s mostly Jouto stuff (with a little bit of Orange League every now and then).  I really don’t want to spend the money on dubbed pokemon (since I’m already planning on spending money for…oh wait, that’s a secret ;)…), but I’m thinking that I don’t have any choice.  Of course, as soon as I buy it, it’ll come on Kids’ WB!, but oh well.  Anyway, also included in that batch is a redone version of my Episode 18 comparison, so it'll load quicker (because I took all those images off and put them on seperate pages).  Plus it's more complete, so that's always a good thing.  I'll be redoing a bunch of the other comparisons (24-31) when I get to them, which will hopefully not be too long.

Also, I’m aware that most of my mp3’s don’t work (the only ones that do are the two versions of “Type Wild”).  I’m working on it…
