An illustration contest to coincide with the release of Pocket Monsters The Movie "Koko" was launched in early 2020. Details about the contest, which has since come to a close, can be found below.

The General Idea

The general idea behind the Illustration Contest was that you would take one of the templates seen below, draw in your favorite Pokémon or other images around it, color it in, and then submit it to the contest staff. There were two different "themes" for 2020's contest.

The first theme was an image of Zarude and was associated with the magazines CoroCoro Comics, CoroCoro Ichiban!, and Weekly Shonen Sunday.

The second theme was an image of Pikachu in its exploration party outfit and was associated with Shougaku Ichi-Nensei, Youchien ("Preschool"), Ciao, Pucchi Gumi, Pokémon Fan, TV-kun (aka "Terebi-kun"), Shogakukan Kids, and HugKum.

Once you picked your theme (by purchasing one of the magazines above), you could choose one of the two courses: the "Normal Course" (通常コース) and the "Let's Draw as a Parent-Child Course" (親子で描こうコース).

Normal Course

Rules
Complete your art on the pre-drawn postcard.
Circle "Normal Course" on the postcard.
Enter the required information (name, address, telephone number, gender, age, etc.)
・ You could not submit and entry for both the "Normal Course" and the "Let's Draw as a Parent-Child Course" using the same postcard.

Prizes

Grand Prize (1 person per magazine)
The first part of this prize is that your winning art will be featured during Pocket Monsters The Movie "Koko." In past years this meant either showing the art during or after the film's end credits.

Winners also received a copy of either Pocket Monsters Sword or Pocket Monsters Shield for the Nintendo Switch as well as other Pokémon merchandise that was to be announced at a later date.

Runner-Up (5 people per magazine)
Runners-up received Pokémon movie merchandise.

Let's Draw as a Parent-Child Course

Rules
The child colors in the pre-printed line art while the adult takes care of the images added around it.
Circle "Let's Draw as a Parent-Child Course" on the postcard.
Please make it clear which name belongs to the child and which name belongs to the older member of the household.
Enter the required information (name, address, telephone number, gender, age, etc.).
If a child helps with the additional drawings as well as coloring the pre-printed line art then that's OK too; the entry will not be disqualified.
You could not submit and entry for both the "Normal Course" and the "Let's Draw as a Parent-Child Course" using the same postcard.

How to Enter

Essentially there were two ways to obtain an entry form.

For the first option, participants needed to purchase one of the magazines listed above and draw their art on the template printed in each one. Participants also had to fill in the child's name, mailing address, telephone number, child's gender, child's age, and the name of a parent / guardian.

The second way was to download the entry form, print it out, draw their art, provide the same name / address / etc. information as above, paste it to the back of a postcard that you've bought yourself, and then send it in.
