Statement from Mr. Kankuro Nakamura "I went to see Pocket Monsters The Movie "Mewtwo Strikes Back" (1998) in the theater back when I was in high school and then, last year, I went to see Mewtwo Strikes Back Evolution together with my children. We spend a lot of time at kabuki rehearsals together but still find it hard to fit quality playtime into our schedules and so being able to go see a film like Pokémon as a family was a precious father / sons moment for us. When I was chosen to be a guest voice actor I was already really, really happy because I had always wanted to try my hand at doing animation voiceover work but then, if that wasn't enough, my first job as a voice actor was going to be on something as long-running and beloved as Pokémon! Ever since my kids were born I've been looking after them and learning a lot, and in the story of this movie, similarly, Zarude learns about itself as it looks after and brings up Koko. I'm actually a really big softy and so when I read the script for this movie about the love of a parent for its child I had tears streaming down my face the whole time. Kabuki actors use tradition to connect each generation to one another, and then new bonds form out of those connections; Zarude, meanwhile, is a Pokémon who continues to safeguard the rules (of the forest). So there were a lot of parts about the character I could really relate to."

Koko (ココ)

A boy who was raised by Pokémon who also believes he is a Pokémon.

A statement from Ms. Moka Kamishiraishi "The first movie I ever saw was Pocket Monsters Advanced Generation The Movie "Pokémon Ranger and the Prince of the Sea, Manaphy" (2006). I was a first grader in elementary school and went to go see it in the theater with my family. I played the Nintendo DS games as well and so I feel like I've always been in contact with the culture of Pokémon this whole time. I lived in Mexico for a while and Pokémon was really popular with the other kids at school there and so I could experience, first-hand, Japanese culture being exported overseas, and the whole time I was there I could see how much everyone loved Pokémon no matter what country it was. When I was a kid I used to look at the Pokémon and think "they're soooo cute~" but now that I'm an adult I've started to be able to understand the deeper meaning behind it all. In this movie I play a boy who was raised by Pokémon and the theme of this film, I feel, are the various relationships we can have with each other, be they a father / son relationship where the two aren't actually related to each other by blood; the bonds between humans and Pokémon; and so on. I'm also looking forward to seeing how Mr. Kankuro, who plays Zarude, breathes life into the Mythical Pokémon."

A statement from Mr. Kou'ichi Yamadera "I was really happy to receive the offer to be in a Pokémon movie again. Over the years I've been going back and forth between voicing humans and voicing Pokémon but this time I feel at ease since the role I'm playing, Dr. Zed, has the role Ms. Nakagawa is playing, the assistant Karen, to play off of. When I watched the footage in the trailer it made me believe that director Yajima is going to serve up yet another new whirlwind of a movie and so I got really excited. I can't wait to see this movie!"

Name Origin
Dr. Zed's name is basically the letter Z (written out in Japanese as ゼット) with a dakuten added to the final syllable to change the to (ト) into the voiced do (ド).

Rocket-Dan (ロケット団)

Musashi, Kojirou, and Nyarth are three members of the Rocket-Dan who have sworn loyalty to Sakaki, the organization's boss.
