Dogasu's Backpack | Movies & Specials Guide | AG Movie 04

Motion pictures take a lot of effort and work to complete, and Pocket Monsters movies are no exception.  With a staff of hundreds working every day to bring the latest movie to fans, there are a lot of interesting stories to be told from behind the scenes.

Below are some tidbits of information I gathered, most of which comes from the official site's blog section.

Release Information

According to M. Kubo-san's blog on the movie's official website, the executive producer of the Pokemon TV anime and movie series, scheduling the movie's release was especially problematic this year.  The advertisers wanted the movie to come out during the critical summer period (between July and August) to take advantage of summer vacation.  However, in order to do so the film will have to compete with three major animated projects: Pixar's Cars (due July 1st), Studio Ghibli's Tales from Earthsea (July 2006), and Brave Story (July 8th), a major collaborative effort between Studio Gonzo, Warner Brothers Japan, and Fuji Television Network.  Despite this incredibly strong competition, the producers of Pocket Monsters feel that the movie will do well in theatres since they've been able to top movies like and Star Wars and Harry Potter time and time again.

Music

A 70-piece orchestra was used to record the movie's more than 50 musical scores.  The music took six months to create and will be recorded in Australia in June 2006.

Voice Actors

The voice actors will begin recording their voices in May.
