Dokimeki Diary (ドキメキダイアリー), or "Excrilling ^[1] Diary" is the first opening theme to the Pocket Monsters (2023) TV series.

Translation Notes:
The Dokimeki in the song's title, Dokimeki Diary, is a made-up word consisting of doki-doki (ドキドキ), "exciting," and tokimeki (ときめき), "thrilling." To help preserve the made-up-ness of this word I've decided to render it as "Excrilling" (exciting + thrilling) for my translation.

Miscellaneous
The song's title was first revealed on March 24th, 2023 after the airing of that's night episode of Pocket Monsters (2019), "The Rainbow and the Pokémon Master." The show's official Twitter account posted comments from the song's lyricist, Chinozo, and its singer, asmi that night.

“Nice to meet you. My name is Chinozo and I had the privilege of making the opening song to the new Pokémon animated series.

I wrote “Dokimeki Diary” in a way only I can, pouring every last thought I have about the new series into this song.

I've loved Pokémon ever since I was little and so when they started talking to me about doing this theme song it felt like a dream come true. It still feels really surreal, even now. I really love all the Pokémon theme songs and have lost count of how many times they’ve saved my life over the years. And so I feel so honored to be a part of this show that I feel so passionately about.

I'm look forward to the new Pokémon animated series!”

「ドキメキダイアリー」、自分なりに本作品への最大限の想いを込めて書かせていただいた楽曲です。

小さい頃から大好きだったポケモン、さらにその主題歌のお話をいただいたことを今だに夢のように感じています。ポケモンの主題歌がどれも本当に好きで、どれくらい人生を救われたか数え切れません。それくらい自分にとって思い入れがあり、そんな作品に携わらせていただき、本当に光栄です。

ポケモンアニメ新シリーズ、よろしくお願いします！

“The animated series, the video games, the stuffed animals. When I think back to when I was in elementary school, absolutely absorbed in the world of Pokémon, I couldn’t imagine how bright my future would end up being. When it was first decided that I’d be the one to sing the theme song I had this vague feeling of uneasiness, but it's that uneasiness that help me connect to my feelings self worth, day in and day out. Getting to sing this song now gives me the conviction to walk ahead with that uneasiness in a way that only I can. I’m so happy, from the bottom of my heart, that I get to go on this new story with the anipoke.

When I was singing this song I gave it everything I had so that it could become the little push forward, a little “It’ll be OK! So get out there!” whenever you're about to start something new and scary. I think being aware of the “exciting” and the “thrilling” in this song allows you to believe in yourself and make you want to set out on a new journey. I hope you’ll find that ringing forth in “Dokimeki Diary.”

アニメにゲームにぬいぐるみ。ポケモンのいる世界に憧れていた小学生の頃を思うと、こんなに悦ばしい未来はありません。主題歌を歌うことが決まった当初に漠然と抱いていた不安は、日に日に自信に繋がることとなりました。今ではこの曲を歌えるのは、抱えた不安ごと歩みを進めていける今の自分しかいないという確信となっています。アニポケの新しい物語にご一緒出来ること、心から嬉しく思います。

これから始まる何かに足がすくむとき、この曲が「大丈夫！いってらっしゃい！」と背中を押せるように全力で歌いました。”ドキドキ”と”ときめき”に敏感に、自分を信じて張り切って旅に出てほしいと思っています。そこにいつもドキメキダイアリーが鳴っていますように！
