Dogasu's Backpack | Episode Comparisons | Johto Region

Sometime around 2017-ish a newly edited version of the Jouto episode "The Ice Cave" began showing up on Japanese streaming services like Amazon Prime. In this newer version, Rougela, who was originally animated with black skin, dark blue hands, and red forearms, got recolored so that she now has purple skin, purple hands, and white forearms.

Images taken from the original version is on the left while the late 2010s edit is on the right. Click on each image for a larger version.

The original colorists filled in Rougela's eyes grey so they'd stand out against her original black skin but for the purple version wouldn't it have looked better if they were filled in black like every other line?

In a few of the edited shots in this episode traces from the the red from Rougela's original forearm still remain. Rougela's right arm in this shot is a perfect example; check out the area around her wrist, in particular.
