In the Kanto Region, Dr. Ookido is driving Satoshi and Pikachu to Kuchiba City to attend the opening of a new lab operated by his colleague Dr. Sakuragi. When they arrive, Dr. Sakuragi is already giving a speech to the assembled crowd but Satoshi is quickly distracted when he spots a Wanpachi, a Pokémon he's never seen before. However, the two's meeting is cut short when its Trainer, a young girl named Koharu, comes by and takes her Pokémon away. Elsewhere, a boy named Gou eagerly awaits the arrival of a certain Pokémon he's sure will show up any minute. As predicted, a swirl of clouds appear in the sky from which the legendary Pokémon Lugia emerges! A few other Pokémon Trainers try and fail to get Lugia for themselves but Satoshi approaches the legendary Pokémon and challenges it to a battle anyway. Lugia quickly realizes that Pikachu can't put up much of a fight so it and starts to leave; Satoshi, not ready to quit just yet, manages to jump onto Lugia's back at the last minute! Once airborne, Satoshi looks over and sees that Gou is hitching a ride as well! The two Trainers ride Lugia through the sky and quickly discover that they both share a love for all things Pokémon. Once Lugia dumps Satoshi and Gou off in a field somewhere the two of them vow to meet lots of Pokémon moving forward. Later, the two Trainers make their way back to the Sakuragi Laboratory and share their stories about Lugia. The doctor is so impressed by the two boys that he asks them to travel around the world to gather data about Pokémon as his research fellows! The two agree without any hesitation and thus begins Satoshi's and Gou's journey through the World of Pokémon.

Hibanny appears on the chapter's title page despite not appearing in the actual chapter itself.
This chapter was also reprinted in The "All You Need to Know About the New Pocket Monsters Cartoon" Book (新アニメポケットモンスターまるわかりブック) that was handed out for free at Pokémon Centers and Pokémon Stores all throughout Japan from December 8th, 2019.
Differences between the comic and the TV series
The manga skips all the opening scenes in Masara Town and goes straight to the car ride to Kuchiba City.
In the manga, Hanako and Barrierd do not join Satoshi and Dr. Ookido on their trip to Kuchiba City. Dr. Sakuragi's assistants Kikuna and Renji are MIA as well.
The nods to previous series are different depending on which version of the episode you're looking at. In the TV version we see a shelf with various trophies and awards Satoshi's received throughout his career as a Pokémon Trainer while in the manga we get a flashback to Satoshi fighting alongside various Pokémon over the years.
The order in which Satoshi encounters Wanpachi is different depending on what version you're watching; in the TV series he encounters the Gen 8 Pokémon before Dr. Sakuragi's speech while in the manga he encounters it after.
Dr. Sakuragi's speech takes place inside the laboratory to a group of adults all wearing formal business attire while in the manga it takes place outside to a group of people of all ages and styles of dress.
The battle between Pikachu and Lugia lasts a bit longer in the manga, with Pikachu unleashing an Electro Web attack that it doesn't use in the TV version.
All of Koharu's interactions with everyone else - Gou, Satoshi, Dr. Sakuragi - are cut from the manga version. The little spats the double protagonists Satoshi and Gou get into in the TV version are gone as well; in the manga, there's absolutely zero friction between the two.
In the TV series, we're told why Dr. Sakuragi chooses Gou and Satoshi to be his research fellows; Gou, because of his ability to bring back great amounts of data, and Satoshi, because he can form bonds with Pokémon so quickly. The professor's also really impressed by Satoshi being able to hear Lugia say the words "let's go." In the manga version, however, Dr. Sakuragi still provides his reasoning for making Gou his research fellow but doesn't even address Satoshi and what he can bring to the table. In other words, manga-only fans have no idea why Dr. Sakuragi chooses Satoshi to be one of his research fellows.
The chapter ends with Satoshi and Gou agreeing to travel the world for Dr. Sakuragi. This means that the parts of the TV episode where Satoshi and Gou decide to live at the laboratory, Hanako decides to leave Barri-chan behind to look after her son, and Gou declares that Mew will be the first Pokémon he gets are all missing from the manga.

The first graphic novel
collection of Machito Gomi's Pocket

released on August 28th, 2020. It contains the first six
chapters as they appeared in the December 2019 through May 2020 issues
of CoroCoro Comics.

Satoshi
and Gou have arrived in the Galar Region to investigate the phenomenon
known as Daimax! Their train for the Wild Area won't depart for a few
more hours so our heroes decide to sit and have a rest. Suddenly, a
gang of three Kusune and a Hibanny sneak up on the two boys and steal
their backpacks! Satoshi and Gou follow the Pokémon to an empty
square where they witness Hibanny passing out the snacks that were in
the backpacks among the Fox Pokémon. An old man from the area
tells them that Hibanny is acting as the Kusune's caregivers and that
it only steals so it can feed the Kusune trio. Gou approaches Hibanny
and tells that stealing isn't the only option and that there's a whole
world out there filled with opportunities! Later, Satoshi and Gou
arrive in the Wild Area. Hibanny, with the Kusune's blessings, had
followed our heroes all the way out there and indicates that it wants
to become Gou's Pokémon. Suddenly, a Kabigon that Satoshi and
Gou had come across earlier transforms into its Kyodaimax form, right
in front of their eyes! Once it stops growing our heroes realize that
it is now sitting on top of a railroad track and so they turn all their
efforts toward getting it to move out of the way. Pikachu and Hibanny
work together to knock a piece of fruit toward Kabigon, causing it to
jump up toward it and out of the way of a speeding train! Gou is so
impressed with Hibanny's efforts that he agrees to let Hibanny join him
as his very first Pokémon. The next day, Satoshi and Gou have
returned to the Sakuragi Laboratory to introduce Hibanny...as well as
the dozens of other Pokémon Gou had caught in the meantime!
Differences
between the comic and the TV series
Since this chapter's a combination of three TV episodes the storylines are more of an abridged version of the episodes' plots than a proper retelling.
Episode 004 "Let's Get Going to the Galar Region! The First Encounter with Hibanny!!" (pages 282 - 293)
All the scenes from the TV version that take place in the Kanto region - Satoshi and Gou brushing their teeth, breakfast, the scene in Dr. Sakuragi's lab - are all cut from the manga. Accordingly, Dr. Magnolia doesn't get to appear in the manga at all.
In the TV version Satoshi and Gou snack on scones while waiting for their train to come. In the manga they merely sit on a park bench to take a rest.
The whole subplot of Hibanny spreading mud all over itself to help it blend in with the Kusune pack is completely absent in the manga; the Pokémon is its usual white self from the very beginning.
The battle between Pikachu and Hibanny is completely cut from the manga.
The design of the old man who tells Satoshi and Gou about Hibanny's backstory is completely different between the two versions.

The train station worker who tells Satoshi and Gou that red lights are a sign of Daimax Pokémon doesn't appear, either.

Once Hibanny does catch up with Satoshi and Gou, it kicks a rock that bounces off Satoshi and hits a piece of fruit, knocking it off a tree and into Kabigon's mouth. In the manga version the fruit just kind of falls on its own without Hibanny's help.
In the TV version, Gou checks his phone and sees that a train is scheduled to come by the area in eight minutes. In the manga version, however, the train is already close enough to be seen heading their way by the time Kabigon grows huge.
Hibanny doesn't get eaten in the manga version.
When Gou tries to get Hibanny in the TV series he throws a curve ball. In the manga Gou just kind of touches the Monster Ball to Hibanny's head.
Wanpachi's scenes are cut from the manga.

Basically, the entire episode! The manga does show a panel of Gou having caught dozens and dozens of Pokémon while in the actual TV episode he only caught twelve. Manga!Gou also mentions getting Pokémon in both the forest and the sea while in the TV version he gets all his Pokémon from the Kuchiba Forest.

Satoshi
and Gou head toward the Houen Region! A battle tournament is being held
in the region's Battle Frontier and Satoshi has entered himself Gou
into the competition! Gou decides to use Hibanny and his newly caught
Strike while Satoshi will use Pikachu and...his mother's Barrierd?! The
tournament begins with Gou facing off against a Trainer from the region
named Houji. Unfortunately for Gou, Houji's Guraena takes out both his
Pokémon without even breaking a sweat! Gou takes his
Pokémon to a nearby Pokémon Center, gets them treated,
and then returns to the stands to watch as Satoshi and Houji make their
way through the tournament. After a long series of battles the finals
come down to Satoshi vs. Houji! Satoshi's Barrierd uses Reflector to
trap Hariteyama in place so it can use Psychokinesis to finish it off.
The next match is Pikachu vs. Guraena. A hole is opened up in the
ceiling during the fierce battle and so Pikachu takes advantage of this
by using Electro Web in the opening to launch itself forward like a
wrestler rebouding off the ropes! The power up this gives Pikachu's
Iron Tail attack is enough to defeat Guraena, earning Satoshi victory!
As Satoshi celebrates winning the tournament Gou tells him that
Pokémon battling seems to be really fun!
