Miscellaneous Loose Ends
December 31st, 2013

Dogasu @ 14:27 JST -- The year's come to an end and there are a few things in the last few updates I wanted to work on.
  • An error in the comparison for Pokémon Origins File 1 - Red regarding the Lass' "light years" line has been fixed.  I've also added an image of the back of the Pocket Monsters Green box that includes the infamous "Sepultra" screenshot - special thanks goes out to Alex Irish for providing that for me.
  • I've made it so that you can click on the images in the write-up for the final episode of Pokemon Radio Show!  The Rocket-Dan's Secret Empire to see larger versions of the images posted on the trio's Twitter account.  I've also tweaked a few sentences here and there.
Also, something I meant to bring up in the last update but forgot - Pokemon Radio Show!  The Rocket-Dan's Secret Empire has been finished for over a year now and it seems like its chances of ever coming back are slim to none.  But!  Something I think that's worth pointing out is that TV-Tokyo's official website for the animated series still has a link to the show's official website despite all of that.  The site's been redesigned several times this year and every time that it was - Episode N in January, Decolora Adventures in April, XY in October - they made sure to include a link to the Rocket-Dan's radio show.  And there's really no way they could have just forgotten to take it down either.  So I dunno...I don't expect the show to ever come back, but at the same time it's hard to ignore this continued promotion of a year old radio program either.

In other news, I've finally gotten around to making a page for next year's movie!

The Cocoon of Destruction

One thing I've noticed online is the assumption that the twelve Mega Evolutions we see in this preliminary teaser poster are actually going to appear in the movie that comes out next July.  I don't think that's what's going to happen at all.  These first glimpses of the movie we get in December do a few things - give us a preliminary title (which will be updated in February with the name of the name of the movie's co-star), give us a release date, and give us a vague idea of what the movie's going to be about.  Let's take a look at the previous movies' teaser posters for a second:

Key information about the final movies is missing from all three of these.  In last year's teaser poster, the fact that there are four other Genosect and a Myuutwo who can Mega Evolve wouldn't be revealed until several months later.  The year before?  No Keldeo, no "Resolution Form," and no Black Kyurem / White Kyurem.  The year before that?  Nothing about there actually being two movies in production instead of just the one.  They purposefully held back on revealing key information until they got closer to each films' release date.

Having twelve Mega Evolutions in next year's movie would be insane.  So would having two movies, similar to the aforementioned Victini movies, with six Mega Evolutions apiece.  And if either one of those were what they were planning to do then they wouldn't have blown their wad already and revealed all of this now - they'd have waited until February and would have given us a generic poster featuring Yveltal and Xerneas in the meantime.

And besides all that, none of the Mega Evolutions featured on the teaser poster are given bios on the movie's official site.

The way I see it, this year's teaser poster is telling us that Mega Evolutions will play a part in the movie.  Not these Mega Evolutions in particular, but a Mega Evolution of some kind.  If they chose just one or two Mega Evolutions to put on the poster then that would heavily imply that those pokemon would appear in the movie so they decided to throw a whole bunch of them on there.  And I think chances are high that when February comes around they'll reveal that the Mega Evolution(s) who are going to appear in the movie are actually all new ones that none of us know about yet.  Maybe a Mega Evolution of an XY pokemon, since none of those exist at the moment?  And it'll probably be the pre-order bonus for the movie, with either Yveltal or Xerneas being the pokemon you get just for stepping foot inside the theater?

This could all end up being wrong, but this is just my take on the teaser poster.  New Mega Evolution instead of the twelve we see on the poster.  Guess we'll find out in February!

Tomorrow is January 1st so I'll take a look back at the predictions I made for 2013 and see how close / far off I was.

Pokemon Radio Show The Final!  Tsubaki Ayana
December 23rd, 2013

Dogasu @ 23:58 JST -- Two things happened a year ago today.  One, the newly edited version of "Rougela's Christmas" debuted on Pokemon Smash!, and two, the final episode of Pokemon Radio Show!  The Rocket-Dan's Secret Empire aired on InterFM in Japan.  Tonight's update has to do with the second one.

Tsubaki Ayana

To celebrate, I've posted a detailed summary of the final episode of the radio show.  It's hard to believe it's been a year now since we got the final episode.

On May 21st of this year, sound director
Mima Masafumi (三間雅文) tweeted that he didn't think the radio show would be coming back for summer 2013.  And, sure enough, it didn't come back.  I'd say the chances of the radio show coming back are slim to none at this point but I would love, love to be wrong about this because I really did love everything about this crazy radio show.

I hope you all have a great Christmas!  I'll be back sometime after Wednesday with more updates.

Pokémon Origins "File 1 Red"
December 19th, 2013

Dogasu @ 07:59 JST -- REASONS FOR GOING OVER A MONTH WITHOUT ANY WEBSITE UPDATES:
  • Studying for the JLPT.
  • Various computer problems.
  • Various Internet connection problems.
  • I got a sorta-kinda promotion at work that's requiring me to work longer hours, which therefore cuts into the amount of time I have to work on my website.
  • General laziness.
Oh, and also my printer / scanner decided to just up and die on me, so I've got to go get a new one.  Yay.

There's about a million and one things that I want to get up to date on, but I think the thing that you guys want to see the most, right away, is a brand new comparison.  So here are the differences between the Japanese version and the English version of the first episode of Pokémon Origins, "File 1 - Red"

File 1 - Red

I've also revamped the main Movies & Specials Guide because the older version had this weird glitch that made it cut off halfway down the page.

I look forward to reading the feedback to both of these on my Facebook and Twitter pages as well as the Bulbagarden thread set up for this site.
