The Best of Pokémon Adventures
March 27th, 2007

Today's update is a little random and really should have been made a few months ago, but I wasn't able to actually find these in stores until sometime last week.  So, here's a listing of which chapters in the two "Best of Pok
émon Adventures" books that Viz released last year.

It's really difficult to recommend these two books.  On the one hand, I know that there's no chance in hell we'll ever see any more Pokemon manga in the U.S. if these books don't sell well.  We all need to buy these releases.  The bad part about this is that these two books are so crappy that it's hard to recommend them to anyone.  Large portions of the story are excised altogether, making it almost impossible to follow.  The artwork is still flipped (boo!), and the first book even has some edited artwork (thanks to a pokemon known as "Jynx").  While I would normally say "stay away from this release!" the part of me that knows how the business world works is telling me to shut up.

I want to hurry up and finish those two Kanto comparisons I was talking about earlier so I can get a comparison up for the Manahny movie that aired Friday night.

DVD Stuff
March 22nd, 2007

There's a new DVD box set coming out next month that's a collection of those Tenth Anniversary discs that came out last year.  These things didn't sell all that well, from what I can tell, so Viz is trying to cut their losses by repackaging all ten dics into a $30 box set.  It has some good episodes on it, and the prospect of having a few Orange Islands episodes on DVD's that don't look like absolute shit is enticing, so I might end up picking this set up.

I also noticed that I never really had any information about the last three discs in that Tenth Anniversary line, so I've added entries for those as well.

The first three episodes of Diamond & Pearl (Episodes 948-950, according to the numbering you'll see on TV grids) will premiere at 8:00pm Eastern time on April 20th.  Now I don't have cable TV, but depending on my work schedule, I may be able to go to my mom's house and tape them.  That means I may be able to get a comparison for those three episodes up fairly quickly.  This is all tentative at this point, but hopefully I'll be able to pull that off.

I'll have the revised version of "The Path to the Pokémon League" up soon.  After I finish "The School of Hard Knocks," I'll take a break from the Kanto episodes for a while and work on other things, such as a comparison for the Manaphy movie that's airing tomorrow night on Cartoon Network.

"The Water Flowers of Cerulean City"...oh yeah, and something about Dawn & Paul
March 20th, 2007

Remember when I was doing a Kanto comparison a day?  Now I'm doing good to get three out a week.  I need to step up my game...

Anyway, the revised version of "The Water Flowers of Cerulean City" is up now.

I've also got some new Japanese episode titles and the last five dub titles of Season 9.  Everyone's excited about the latter because the same site that revealed those titles, CartoonNetwork.com, also revealed the English names for Hikari and Shinji (which Pokeani has humorously typo'ed as "Pail").  Now I understand that these are main characters and that people have wanted to know their names for a while now, but this isn't exactly front page news, people.  There's an eight page thread on Bulbagarden and an eleven page thread on Serebii...doesn't that seem a bit excessive?  Is the drought for new things to talk about THAT severe?

I know this will sound ridiculous coming from a 24-year old webmaster of a Pokemon fansite, but...get a life, people.

"Clefairy and the Moon Stone"
March 17th, 2007

I don't know why it took so long to get this comparison done, but "Clefairy and the Moon Stone" is finally complete.  Sorry about the quality of the English screenshots...for some reason, this particular episode looks like crap on the DVD.

DVD Guide
March 13th, 2007

I've started on the "Clefairy and the Moon Stone" comparison and even have all the images gathered for it, but I won't be able to post the completed comparison until tomorrow.  In the meantime, take a look at the covers for the last two Advanced Battle DVD volumes.  Those images were the only ones I could find, but when I get a better quality image available, I'll be sure to replace the ones I have up now.

"Showdown in Pewter City"
March 12th, 2007

Here's "Showdown in Pewter City."   It's up three days later than I want it to be, but there were a fair amount of screenshots to take, so that's part of the reason for the delay.  I hope to have the Pippi episode up tomorrow if I can get everything done in time.

"Challenge of the Samurai"
March 9th, 2007

I meant to have this up yesterday, but I wasn't able to find the time.  "Challenge of the Samurai" is now up.

Also, I've added the two recently revealed Japanese episode titles to the Episode List

"Ash Catches A
Pokémon"
March 7th, 2007

"Ash Catches A Pokémon" contains a paint edit and a cut.  Why not check it out to see images of these scenes?

"Pokémon Emergency!"
March 6th, 2007

Got this one up a little earlier than expected.  Will I have "Ash Catches a Pokémon" up for tomorrow?  We'll see.

I've also updated the DP Movie 01 page with the updated movie title.

Today, the Advanced Battle DVD's "Shocks and Bonds" and "A Judgment Brawl" (one of the most misspelled titles out there) come out in stores.  These two discs finish off the Hoenn League and start 4Kids' Battle Frontier episodes, so they're certainly worth grabbing.  DeepDiscount.com has them available for a cheap $9.97 each.

Also available today is Viz's graphic novel release of Pokémon Mystery Dungeon - Ginji's Rescue Team, which is being sold at $7.99 MSRP.  I plan to pick up my copy tomorrow, and I hope you guys pick up a copy as well because if this release doesn't sell well, Viz may not consider releasing any more Pokémon-related manga in the U.S.  And we don't want that, do we?

"Pokémon I Choose You!"
March 5th, 2007

So I'm posting this a little later than I had hoped, but here it is:  a revised comparison for
"Pokémon I Choose You!"  And when I say revised, I actually mean just about rewritten from the ground up.  You see, when I opened up the file to start what I thought would be a simple rewrite, I was surprised at how terrible those early comparisons are.  The bad writing, the misspellings, the stuff I missed the first time around...it's really embarrassing, and I imagine it's the same feeling people get when they read old fanfics they wrote five years ago.

So when you look at this comparison, please don't start clicking on the "Next Episode" link because I'm scared to see what horrible ghosts from the past you'll unlock.

Anyways, all the revised comparisons I post from now on will have screenshots and better writing and stuff that I missed the first time around and all that good stuff.  Plus, I know Japanese now, so that'll definately help those early comparisons out.

I hope to have the Episode 002 comparison up by Wednesday.

Reminder
March 1st, 2007

Quick reminder guys...a month from today (April 1st, 2007) is the tenth anniversary of the anime.  That's right!  While the tenth anniversary of the games was in 2006, the tenth anniversary of the TV anime is this year.  The show debuted on TV-Tokyo on April 1st, 1997, so if you wanted to plan something big for the event, now would be the time to start.

I've also fixed an error with the title listing on
"Spontaneous Combusken."  Thanks goes to Chelsea lolz for pointing it out to me.

I might be going to my mom's house this weekend, so me + my mom's fast computer = possible new Battle Frontier comparisons.  I still plan to get the first Kanto comparison done, but I might be able to add a few more BF comparisons to that.
