Dusts off the site
March 31st, 2006

So it's been a week since my last update.  A lot of that time was spent editing the second episode of the English Edition of the Bulbacast (which you can listen to by following the link above), but I was also out of town most of the week for various job interviews.  So I haven't had so much time to work on this site.

Anyways, I've updated the Episode List and the DVD Guide by adding a page for Advanced Battle.  I've done the comparing for a comparison of "Shocks and Bonds," but I haven't had the chance to type that up yet.  Maybe I'll get that done sometime later tonight.

Anyway, luckily Kids' WB! is airing two episodes tomorrow that I've already compared, so I should be able to play catch up in the following week.

Manaphy Movie Stuff
March 24th, 2006

So it's been a while, huh?  Sorry about the lack of updates this week, but I've been busy buying a new (well, new to me) car.  That, and I got Metroid Prime Hunters this week for the Nintendo DS.  MAN is that game fun.

So anyways, I don't have any Episode Comparisons this time, but I do have a big Movie AG 04 update.  The plot of the movie has been added, as have more detailed character bios and a section on the manga adaptation.  There are other smaller updates in the section, and I tried to include as much information about the movie as I could given how little we know about the film.

I've also updated the Episode List with a bunch of new dub titles.  Thanks goes to Duke for giving those to me.

I'll be out of town again this weekend (gotta drive the new car :p) so I won't be able to update again until Monday at the earliest.  In the meantime, check out the first episode of the Bulbacast English Edition, which is linked to at the top of this page.

News Updates
March 16th, 2006

So Anime News Network is at it again.  The insanely popular and well-respected site has reported that 4Kids' profits fell drastically in 2005, linking to a press release posted earlier in the day.  What the reporter failed to mention was the source for a lot of the extra information not found in the press release, such as Al Kahn being quoted as being "furious" over the news of the company's performance.  Or the speculation as to why Yu-Gi-Oh! GX isn't doing so hot.  Or the part at the very end that states that 4Kids has sold off its remaining shares in The Pokémon Company.  It's really very annoying.

The people over at ANN need to either stop making up news or learn to properly cite the news they do report.  We fans have enough problems trying to figure out the fate of the dub without you guys coming in and confusing people with your poorly cited articles.

In other news, RightStuf has listed an entry for the second Pokémon Advanced DVD Box set.   The collection will contain the final 20 episodes of
Pokémon Advanced and is scheduled to be released on August 22nd, 2006.  I've updated the DVD Guide accordingly.

"Brags to Riches"
March 15th, 2006

God, I don't know why, but I've just been having trouble getting these comparisons finished.  They're not particularly difficult episodes or anything, yet I still had trouble writing these.  Weird.

"Brags to Riches" is now up.  Whoo.  I'm going out of town Friday morning and will be gone until Sunday afternoon, so I'll try to whip something up tomorrow so I get something non-comparison related accomplished this week.

It's alright~ cuz I'm Saved by the Beldum~
March 13th, 2006

I don't know why, but I really had trouble staying focused enough to do this comparison.  So hopefully, "Saved by the Beldum" isn't a complete mess of vocabulary and grammar.  The comparison for "Brags and Riches" will come tomorrow.

In other news, the seventh and eigth volumes of the Pokémon Advanced Challenge DVD's will be released tomorrow as well.  Check out my DVD Guide to see which episodes will be on these discs.  After these two, there will only be two volumes left in the Advanced Challenge season

New comparison and other updates
March 12th, 2006

I finished the comparison for "A Family That Battles Together Stays Together!"  It took me quite a while to finish, so I hope you all find it informative.  I've also added pictures from the edited versions of "Island Time" and "Like a Meowth to a Flame."  Finally, I fixed a link on the comparison page for "Fight for the Meteorite" that was brought to my attention by an e-mail from R.

Apparently, "Date Expectations" has aired on Canada's YTV, with "Mean with Envy" scheduled to air next weekend.  Come on Kids' WB!, get with the program.

Also, you know that sale at Suncoast I told you guys about in the February 11th update?  Well, it's still going on, and I was able to score the first two volumes of Pokémon Advanced Challenge for only $8.99 each.  So if you want to get some cheap Pokémon DVD's, now's the time to do it.

Non-update
March 11th, 2006

I'll be out of town all day, so I won't be home to do a comparison for you all.  Masamune and his onigiri return in today's episodes, so you can be sure to see some digital paint thrown on top of it.

When I do get the comparisons for "Saved by the Beldum" and "From Brags to Riches" up, I'll also have one up for "A Family That Battles Together Stays Together!"  It's just as bad as "The Legend of Thunder," so it'll be a long read for you all.  Hope you don't mind.

Also, notice how the link above this update says "Bulbacast Episode 06" now.  Exciting.

Here's that Comparison I promised ya
March 9th, 2006

I did a new comparison for you guys - "Delibird's Dilemma / Snorlax Snowman," aka "Pikachu's Winter Vacation 2001," aka  Pokémon Chronicles Episode 04.  I've also written up the lyrics for the ending theme to that special, Mou Sugu Santa ga Yatte Kuru!

Also, I have a bit of non-news to report.  In a recent interview with Newsarama.com, Cartoon Network USA Vice President Terry Kalagain made a few vaguely-related Pokémon comments.  Specifically,

Well, with Kids WB, obviously we shared programs in the past and will continue to do so in the future. One of our announcements this week was our picking up Shaolin Showdown, which is a great show. We also share Pokemon and Yu-Gi-Oh. This new merger [between Kids' WB! and UPN] hasn’t changed that at all.

So it looks like Cartoon Network will be able to air Pokémon as long as Kids' WB! can.  So the big question is...why aren't they?  Why does the network not air a show they have the rights to when it's been proven to be a successful ratings grabber?   Why must they persist in filling their schedule with endless repeats of Ed, Edd, and Eddy and The Grim Adventures of Billy and Mandy?

FINALLY Finished
March 8th, 2006

It took me many many hours to do this, but I've finally revised the big Pokemon List.  It's an update that needed to be made years ago, and I can say I'm very glad to be done with it.  Now that I've decided on what romanizations to use, I'm going to try to start updating this site with the new ones to make everything all nice and consistent.

Other than that, I've added the title to the Deoxys TV Special up on the Episode List page.

Since I know this was such a boring update for you guys, I'll make sure the next update is an Episode Comparison.

DVD Guide
March 6th, 2006

I've got a few updates for you all.  First of all, the DVD Guide has finally been updated with information about all the new DVD's, including Pokémon Advanced Challenge.  I've also replaced the vast majority of the DVD cover images because the old ones looked so bad:

As you can see, the new ones look much better.

I've also added pictures from the English version of "Rhapsody in Drew."  I know the image quality sucks, but that was the best I could do given the quality of the video file I downloaded.

I'm almost done with the Pokemon List (I've done all the Kanto and Jouto pokemon), so hopefully I'll be able to get that horribly tedious update out of the way soon.

New comparisons!
March 3rd, 2006

My e-bay auctions end tomorrow night at 8:00pm, and I would really appreciate it if some of you could click on the e-bay logo above and bid on my stuff.

Anyway, 4Kids got plenty of use from their digital paint programs with today's episodes, "Island Time" and "Like a Meowth to a Flame."  Next week we'll see the return of Masamune and his giant onigiri, so I'll be posting pictures of that edit next week.

I also made a page for the new opening theme that premiered in Japan a few days ago, "Spurt!"

Well, so much for that
March 2nd, 2006

So I didn't quite get this update ready in time to post yesterday, so it's a bit late.  Whoops.  I don't feel quite so guilty, however, because a lot of you aren't even looking at the stuff I'm selling on e-bay, much less bidding on it.  I mean, I know it's not the greatest stuff and all, but seeing an auction get only five hits in three days is kinda sad.

Oh well, I'm not all that bothered by it.  I did manage to get an update done that I've wanted to finish for a while now, so here it is - a revision of "The Legend of Thunder" comparison.  What's the point, you may ask?  Well, for one thing, the comparison that was up was comparing the Japanese version to the version that shows up on the English DVD.  That's good and all, but the version that aired on TV had a few differences that weren't represented in the old comparison.  So, I redid it, comparing the English DVD to the English TV broadcast to see what was different.  What I found out was that the TV version had a few edits that were made especially for the TV broadcast!  In addition, it looks like the version that's on the DVD is even more edited than the TV broadcast version!  To see the comparison of the DVD version, click here.  To see the comparison of the TV version, click here

I've also made some updates/changes, most of them involving me getting rid of a lot of the unnecessary 4Kids bashing.  In addition, I've decided to renumber the TV Specials, since the way I had labeled "Yadoking's Day" as "TV Special 01" just seems silly to me.

Now that "The Legend of Thunder" has been thoroughly compared, I can start diving into the Pokémon Chronicles comparisons.  But...I won't be doing that just yet.  There are still a bunch of other sections that need to be updated more, and I haven't forgotten all the updates I've been promising but haven't delivered.  So those comparisons are going to have to wait a bit. I may update every now and then with a Chronicles episode, especially if I feel like I've gone too long without an update, but don't count on a daily schedule or anything like that.

I'll be out of town most of the day tomorrow, so the next update may not be until I get to Saturday's comparisons.
