The Bleach manga began publication in Japan in 2001 in the manga anthology Weekly Shonen Jump. The manga instantly became popular, and soon an animated series was created based on the popular manga.
The English version began publication in May 2004 by Viz. It is released under the company's "Shonen Jump" line of graphic novels, with each graphic novel coming out about every other month.
