Dogasu's Backpack | Video Games | Pocket Monsters Blue

Pocket Monsters Blue (ポケットモンスター青) is a video game for the Game Boy.  It was released on October 10th, 1996.

Pocket Monsters Blue

The game is an updated release of Pocket Monsters Red and Pocket Monsters Green, released earlier in the year.  The game is nearly identical to the previous games in story and gameplay but has a number of updates to make this the version of the game to get.  These changes include:

The game includes enhanced graphics.  All the pockemon battle sprites have been redrawn, as have many of the background items such as doors and signposts.

The final dungeon, Hanada Cave, has been completely redesigned.

Pockemon who could not be found in either Red or Green can be found in the wild in Blue.  To make up for this, however, certain pockemon have been removed and can only be obtained through trading.

The prizes at the Rocket Game Corner in Tamamushi City are different.

The battle shown during the game's opening is different; in Red and Green, the battle is between Gängar and Purin, while in Blue, the battle is between Gängar and Nidorino.

Unfortunately, there do not seem to be any plans to bring these games to North America, but I'll be sure to update this space as soon as there's any news of an English language release!
