A Pokémon Card Game player named Monjara has gotten her hands on the Super Electric Breaker expansion pack! Retto decides to face off against Monjana while Retto acts as the referee.

2	Pikachu ex		As long as this Pokémon is on your Bench, prevent all damage done to this Pokémon by attacks (both yours and your opponent's). Ability:  Resolute Heart If this Pokémon has full HP and would be Knocked Out by damage from an attack, it is not Knocked Out, and its remaining HP becomes 10. Topaz Bolt (300) Discard 3 Energy from this Pokémon.	Monjana places Pikachu ex on her Bench.
3	Terapagos		Prism Charge Search your deck for up to 3 Basic Energy cards of different types and attach them to your Tera Pokémon in any way you like. Then, shuffle your deck.	Monjana then places a Basic Lightning Energy on Terapagos and has it use "Prism Charge." The attack allows her to draw three Basic Energy Cards and so she chooses a Grass, Lightning, and Metal card. She then attaches all three Basic Energy Cards to her Pikachu ex so it'll be ready to attack in the next round.

2	Nanjamo		Each player shuffles their hand and puts it on the bottom of their deck. If either player put any cards on the bottom of their deck in this way, each player draws a card for each of their remaining Prize cards.	Next, she uses Nanjamo to force both players to shuffle their hands. Because of this, Retto must draw five cards (as he has five Prize Cards left) while Monjana must draw six.
3	Hoho		Triple Stab (10x) Flip 3 coins. This attack does 10 damage for each heads.	Monjana draws a Hoho and adds it to her Bench. She also attaches a Basic Grass Energy card to it.
4	Coil		Lightning Ball (20)	She also draws a Coil. It, too, gets placed on the Bench.
5	Pikachu ex		As long as this Pokémon is on your Bench, prevent all damage done to this Pokémon by attacks (both yours and your opponent's). Ability:  Resolute Heart If this Pokémon has full HP and would be Knocked Out by damage from an attack, it is not Knocked Out, and its remaining HP becomes 10. Topaz Bolt (300) Discard 3 Energy from this Pokémon.	Monjana finishes her turn by having Pikachu ex use "Topaz Bolt" to deal 300 damage to Retto's Maruyakude, causing a Knock Out. Because of this attack, Pikachu ex has to trash its three Basic Energy Cards, leaving it with none.

Retto attaches two Basic Fire Energy to the Scovillain ex in his Active Spot. He then has it use "Spicy Rage," an attack that deals more damage to its opponent the more damage counters it has itself. In Retto's Scovillain ex's case, it has three damage counters as a result of Maruyakude's "Billowing Heat Wave" attack from the previous round, so 3 damage counters x 70 damage each + an additional 10 damage on top of all that = a grand total of 220 damage.

1	Hoho		Triple Stab (10x) Flip 3 coins. This attack does 10 damage for each heads.	Monjana starts her comeback by evolving her Hoho into Yorunozuku.
2	Yorunozuku		Ability:  Jewel Seeker Once during your turn, when you play this Pokémon from your hand to evolve 1 of your Pokémon, if you have any Tera Pokémon in play, you may search your deck for up to 2 Trainer cards, reveal them, and put them into your hand. Then, shuffle your deck. Speed Wing (60)	Since the Pikachu ex in her Active Spot counts as a Tera Pokémon, Monjana's able to use Yorunozuku's "Jewel Seeker" Ability. She draws a Bel's Devotion and a Hyper Ball card.
3	Bel's Devotion		Heal all damage from 1 of your Pokémon that has 30 HP or less remaining.	Monjana uses the Bel's Devotion card she just drew to heal her Pikachu ex to full health since it meets the "30 HP or less" criteria..
4	Hyper Ball		You can use this card only if you discard 2 other cards from your hand. Search your deck for a Pokémon, reveal it, and put it into your hand. Then, shuffle your deck.	She then users Hyper Ball to add a Rarecoil into her hand.
5	Coil		Lightning Ball (20)	Monjana evolves the Coil on her Bench into a Rarecoil.
6	Rarecoil		Ability:  Overvolt Discharge Once during your turn, you may attach up to 3 Basic Energy cards from your discard pile to your Lightning Pokémon in any way you like. If you use this Ability, this Pokémon is Knocked Out. Electric Ball (40)	She then has her newly evolved Rarecoil use its "Overvolt Discharge" Ability to take back the three Basic Energy Cards from her Discard pile -- Grass, Lightning, and Metal -- and reattach them to Pikachu ex. With this, Pikachu ex is back to full health and full energy! The side effect of "Overvolt Discharge," however, is that Rarecoil is Knocked Out, allowing Retto to take another Prize Card.
7	Pikachu ex		As long as this Pokémon is on your Bench, prevent all damage done to this Pokémon by attacks (both yours and your opponent's). Ability:  Resolute Heart If this Pokémon has full HP and would be Knocked Out by damage from an attack, it is not Knocked Out, and its remaining HP becomes 10. Topaz Bolt (300) Discard 3 Energy from this Pokémon.	Monjana's not too worried, however. She ends the turn by having her newly recovered Pikachu ex use "Topaz Bolt" again, this time dealing a Knock Out to the Scovillain ex in Retto's Active Spot. The Pokémon ex rule means that defeating Scovillain ex earns Monjana two Prize Cards for her victory, not just one.

1	Yukiwarashi		Astonish (20) Choose a random card from your opponent's hand. Your opponent reveals that card and shuffles it into their deck.	Retto places his Yukiwarashi, which has been on the Bench this whole time, into the Active Spot.
2	Magma Basin		Once during each player's turn, that player may attach a Fire Energy card from their discard pile to 1 of their Benched Fire Pokémon. If a player attached Energy to a Pokémon in this way, put 2 damage counters on that Pokémon.	Retto then uses Magma Basin to draw a Basic Fire Energy Card from his Discard pile and attaches it to his remaining Scovillain ex. He also has to add two damage counters to the card, bringing Scovillain ex's damage total to 50.
3	Switch Cart		Switch your Active Basic Pokémon with 1 of your Benched Pokémon. If you do, heal 30 damage from the Pokémon you moved to your Bench.	Next, Retto uses Switch Cart to switch the Scovillain ex on his Bench to the Yukiwarashi in the Active Spot. The move also heals 30 damage from Yukiwarashi.
4	Yukiwarashi		Astonish (20) Choose a random card from your opponent's hand. Your opponent reveals that card and shuffles it into their deck.	Retto then evolves the newly Benched Yukiwarashi to Yukimenoko.
5	Yukimenoko		Ability: Freezing Shroud During Pokémon Checkup, put 1 damage counter on each Pokémon that has an Ability (both yours and your opponent's), except any Yukimenoko. Frost Smash (60)	Retto now has a Yukimenoko on his Battle Field, granting him access to its "Freezing Shroud" Ability.
6	Scovillain ex		Ability: Double Type As long as this Pokémon is in play, it is Grass and Fire type. Spicy Rage (10+) This attack does 70 more damage for each damage counter on this Pokémon.	Retto finishes the round by having Scovillain ex use its "Spicy Rage" attack again. Scovillain ex has five damage counters, so it deals (70 x 5) + 10 = 360 damage to Monjana's Pikachu ex.

This brings Pikachu ex's HP down to zero, providing a Knock Out. The Pokémon ex rule means that defeating Pikachu ex earns Retto two Prize Cards for his victory, not just one.

Monjana considers taking the Miraidon ex card from her hand and using its "Tandem Unit" Ability to return Pikachu ex and Coil to her Bench, but then realizes that if she does that Retto will just have his Scovillain ex use its "Spicy Rage" attack to Knock Out either her Miraidon ex or Pikachu ex, earning himself two Prize Cards and winning the entire match. So she thinks of an alternate strategy.

2	Nanjamo		Each player shuffles their hand and puts it on the bottom of their deck. If either player put any cards on the bottom of their deck in this way, each player draws a card for each of their remaining Prize cards.	She then uses Nanjamo to force both of them to shuffle their cards again. This time Retto only has two Prize Cards left so the number of cards in his hand are brought down to just two.
3	Shimama		Add On Draw a card. Static Shock (20)	Next, Monjana evolves her Shimama into Zebraika using the promo card that came as an extra in the January 2025 issue of CoroCoro Ichiban!
4	Zebraika		Top Speed Discard your hand and draw 6 cards. Head Volt (70)	Monjana ends the turn by attaching a Basic Lightning Energy card to Zebraika and then having it use its "Top Speed" attack. She also draws six cards, setting her up to have plenty of options in her next turn.

2	Akamatsu		Search your deck for up to 2 Basic Energy cards of different types, reveal them, and put 1 of them into your hand. Attach the other to 1 of your Pokémon. Then, shuffle your deck.	She then plays an Akamatsu card and uses it to draw a Basic Lightning Energy and a Basic Grass Energy card.
3	Sparkling Crystal		When the Tera Pokémon this card is attached to uses an attack, that attack costs 1 Energy less. (The Energy can be of any type.)	She then attaches Sparkling Crystal to her Pikachu ex, making it so its "Topaz Bolt" attack only requires two Basic Energy Cards instead of three.
4	Pikachu ex		As long as this Pokémon is on your Bench, prevent all damage done to this Pokémon by attacks (both yours and your opponent's). Ability:  Resolute Heart If this Pokémon has full HP and would be Knocked Out by damage from an attack, it is not Knocked Out, and its remaining HP becomes 10. Topaz Bolt (300) Discard 3 Energy from this Pokémon.	Monjana attaches the Basic Lightning Energy and a Basic Grass Energy cards from before to her Pikachu ex. With everything now in place, Monjana has Pikachu ex use "Topaz Bolt" on Retto's Scovillain ex, causing a Knock Out. The Pokémon ex rule means that defeating Scovillain ex earns Monjana two Prize Cards for her victory, not just one.

Defeating Retto's Capsaiji enables her to claim her sixth and final Prize Card, earning her victory.

As Monjana marvels at her Pikachu ex card, especially its Resolute Heart Ability, she realizes both Retto and Letto have gone missing...? It turns out that after Retto's loss, the two players immediately rushed to his nearest bookstore to pick up a copy of the January 2025 issue of CoroCoro Ichiban! Now armed with the Zebraika promo card, Letto challenges Monjana to a battle.
