The Gym Leader's assault begins! Black is ordered to take care of the Plasma-Dan grunts who had infiltrated the museum and stop them from getting their hands on the Dark Stone while they take care of the Dark Trinity. The trinity, meanwhile, sees that they're up against six Gym Leaders and decide to take out the Gym Leaders in pairs. Yakon's Doryuuzu succumb's to Dredia's Mega Drain attack but is saved when Kamitsure's Emonga swoops in with Acrobat. Later, Hachiku steps forward with his Freezio and has it create a chain made of ice to tie up the Plasma-Dan trio. The Gym Leaders begin to question the Trinity but realize that they're not defeated yet; suddenly, Tornelus, Voltus, and Landlus descend from the sky! The trio of legendary pokemon whip up a wind storm that incapacitates the Gym Leaders and breaks the chains holding the Dark Trinity. Black hears the commotion and runs outside to help. His Charbu charges forward and kicks Landlus, but the legendary pokemon barely notices. Landlus grabs Charbu by the neck to stop it, so Black's pokemon evolves into Emboar and breaks free! Meanwhile, N and White's Pokabu arrive at the Dragon Spiral Tower.

Members of the Plasma-Dan report that they've been unable to locate the Dark Stone. The Dark Trinity orders everyone to retreat, so the legendary pokemon carry the now unconscious Gym Leaders away. After they leave, Hachiku appears in front of Black! The escaped Gym Leader says that he heard there's another way into the secret room where the Dark Stone is hidden. Black thinks back to the time he challenged Aloe at her Gym and leads Hachiku through the same path he took through the library back then. As soon as the door to the secret room is opened, Black is attacked by a Shibirudon! Black finds out that Hachiku was really a Plasma-Dan member in disguise and that he was only using Black to gain access to the Dark Stone! The Plasma-Dan grunt hands the Dark Stone to G'Cis, who in turn delivers it to N so he can finally summon Zekrom. Later, the real Hachiku finds Black passed out in Aloe's secret room. He contacts his colleague Shaga and tells him that the Plasma-Dan didn't notice that the Light Stone was also hidden in Aloe's secret room. Hachiku then tells Shaga that he'll begin training Black for the upcoming battle.

Black wakes up on Cylinder Bridge, wondering what happened. Hachiku recalls the events in Shippou City and says that he plans to train the young boy so he'll have the strength to go up against the organization that was able to defeat the other Gym Leaders so easily. The first part of the training is for Black to free himself from a chain of ice his Freezio has attached to Black's left leg. As Black calls on his Emboar to help him, Hachiku goes to one of the gates at the end of the bridge to talk with the Souryuu City Gym Leader Shaga. The two discuss the fact that Black seems to have been chosen by Reshiram and question whether or not it's wise to break the seal containing it. Before long, Hachiku announces that he's going to the Plasma-Dan's "castle" to see what he can figure out. Meanwhile, Black has his Emboar switch from Fire-Type attacks to Fighting-Type attacks. With the help of the vibrations caused by the trains passing by underneath, Emboar is able to use its Arm Hammer attack to strike Freezio's chain and smash it to pieces. The first part of Black's training is now finished!

Notes

Black decides to nickname his Emboar "Boar" (ブォウ). Hachiku tells Black that with a name like that, he should be sure to train it like a Bu no Ou (武の王), or "Fighting King." This pun of his prompts Black to try using Fighting-Type moves instead of Fire-Type moves later in the chapter.

Hachiku goes to the Dragon Spiral Tower and finds evidence that the legendary pokemon Zekrom has already been summoned by the Plasma-Dan. Back on Cylinder Bridge, the doctor who Hachiku had brought along introduces himself as Teruyuki. As he treats Black's wounds, Shaga and Iris appear. After battling with Shaga for a bit and losing, Iris decides to stick with Black so they can train together. At that moment, Teruyuki announces that Black's other pokemon have defeated Hachiku's three Vanirich and completed step two of the training. Shaga leaves for Souryuu City, telling Black that he'll be waiting for him there. Black and Iris continue walking on the bridge and run into the bike gang known as the "Black Empärts." As the group boasts about how powerful they are, Black has his Dentula, Mun'na, and Protoga work together to defeat them in the most humiliating way possible. Teruyuki leads Black and Iris off the bridge and into what is assumed to be Sekka City. Once there, they go to Hachiku's house and learn a bit about the Gym Leader's history as a movie star. Hachiku returns and tells Black that the next step of his training will be to defeat his ice maze.

Notes

Teruyuki (テルユキ) is known as "Doctor Logan" in the English versions of the games. He appears on Champion Road.

The leader of the Black Empärts is named Hideaki (ヒデアキ) and is known as "Biker Jeremy" in the English versions of the games. He appears on Cylinder Bridge.

In Kanawa Town, White shows just how much she's grown as a battler by nearly defeating the Subway Master Nobori. Suddenly, White's pokemon team - which now includes a Maggyo, Uniran, and a Mamanbou - begin to wander away as if in a trance! White follows them and finds that music being performed by Bel is what drew her pokemon away! As the two catch up, Bel tells White that she's upset at not finding a purpose to her journey the way her friends Black and Cheren have. To cheer her up, White takes Bel to Hiun City. Once there, White leads her to a cafe on Slim Street and tells Bel that she wants to introduce her to a guitarist who performs there. When they go inside, however, they find the venue's been wrecked by a Vulchai! The guitarist explains that the Vulchai has been tearing up the place trying to go after the legendary pokemon Meloetta! After White spots Meloetta clinging to a chandelier for dear life, she sends out her Maggyo to fight but is quickly defeated. At that moment, Bel grabs a guitar and becomes determined to do whatever she can to help.

The guitarist hands Bel the sheet music for "Ancient Song," a song whose melody Meloetta has forgotten. After practicing for some time, Bel is able to play the song, which in turn enables Meloetta to recall how it goes and start singing it all by itself! Meloetta's voice knocks the Vulchai back, so it calls on its fellow Vulchai to come and help it out. Suddenly, four more Vulchai burst into the cafe! Meloetta responds by changing into its Step Forme and makes quick work of the flock of pokemon with its powerful Fighting-Type attacks. When the fighting's over, White throws a Monster Ball at the boss Vulchai and captures it! Later, Bel calls Araragi-Hakase and tells her that she's decided to become her lab assistant. When the professor complains that they've finished repairing her Pokemon Zukan and that her father has already left to go deliver it to her, Bel tells her to have him give it to White instead. Some time later, White receives a Pokemon Zukan from Araragi-Hakase's father and records Meloetta's information. Now that Bel's figured out the purpose to her journey and Meloetta's safe and sound, White prepares to leave for her next adventure.

Black looks at Musha and begins to reminisce about the day they first met. It was nine years ago, and Black, Bel, and Cheren were all five years old. Bel's father is upset that his daughter and her friends have been playing with his pokemon without his permission and forbids her from associating with them ever again. After seeing Bel burst into tears, Black steps forward, apologizes, and promises not to use an adult's pokemon again. He then tells Bel's father that he'll spend his time studying instead. After seeing how serious he is, Bel's father decides to permit his daughter to continue hanging out with her friends. After going to the library, Black learns about the Pokemon League and the various qualifications required to enter. Outside, Black gets lost in a daydream about winning the league. Bel decides that Black will need a pokemon first and foremost and sets out to find one. Shortly after her search begins, Bel is attacked by a wild Washibon! Cheren tries to shake Black out of his trance to help out, but he just stares blankly ahead. Suddenly, a wild Mun'na jumps out from some nearby bushes and attaches itself to Black's head!

As Bel continues to flail about, the wild Mun'na begins feasting on Black's dreams. It runs away as soon as it's finished, leaving Black with a dazed look on his face. Now that his head full of dreams has been cleared out, he can focus on looking for clues as to why Bel was attacked. After studying the footprints in the area, Black guesses that Bel accidentally crushed a Berry that the wild Washibon was going to eat. He apologizes to the pokemon and presents it with some different Berries, so it decides to finally let go of Bel. Later, Black researches the pokemon he encountered and discovers that it evolves into a pokemon named Wargle. He decides to capture it, so he borrows some Monster Balls from Cheren's house and goes outside to look for it. When he finds the Washibon, he calls on the wild Mun'na who had helped clear his head earlier and asks it to battle for him. The pokemon agrees to cooperate and knocks Washibon out with a powerful Psychokinesis attack. After he catches Washibon, Black notices that the wild Mun'na wants to follow him to the Pokemon League as well! With that, Black captures his first two pokemon!

This is the final issue of Shougaku Yon-Nensei.
