Author

Yamamoto Satoshi
"From Shippou to Skyarrow Bridge and Hiun City, the scenery changes constantly along with the meetings and departures that go with it.  PokeSpe Volume 45 has a good number of characters and we wanted to give even the supporting characters something to make them stand out but we also wanted to avoid them being too much like someone who's already appeared before.  Differentiating all these characters was both fun and difficult."
Kusaka Hidenori
"I've never been to an autograph session since this series started serialization and have always left that kind of thing up to the artist.  I would stand quietly on the other side of the rope.  I always rationlized this by saying that it calmed me down and allowed me to keep watch over what's going on but recently my attitude has changed and the opportunities to come face to face with the fans have increased.  Well...even now I'm still kind of shy.  There's nothing like the warmth you get when you shake hands with a fan and I'm thankful for the renewed energy it gives me."

Chapter 472 "vs Zurug"

At the Cafe Soko in Shippou City, White's gathered a crowd to hear a sales pitch for the BW Agency.  Unfortunately, Black starts shouting about his dream of entering the Pokemon League and runs everyone off!  The annoyed White decides that Black needs lessons on marketing and takes him outside to practice drumming up business.  Black ends up being too shy to talk to potential customers, so White takes over for him and convinces a musician to join them on their next shoot.  While they work, a Zurug and Zuruzukin see the accordion the musician had left behind and take it!  The director immediately blames Black, explaining that he's the only one in the area at the time.  In order to clear his agency's name, Black begins to search for the real culprits.  Before long, he identifies the Zurug and Zuruzukin and lures them into an electrified web that Dentula had set up earlier.  After returning the accordion, Black tells White that he's going to head to the Shippou City Gym to challenge Aloe, the Normal-type Gym Leader.  When he leaves, the director tells White that he's so impressed with her that he wants her to join him in an important meeting.

Chapter Notes
The musician with the accordion is modeled after composer and pianist Miyagawa Akira (宮川彬良).  Mr. Miyagawa has been featured in a number of NHK productions including "Quintet" (クインテット) and "Do Re Mi Fa Wonderland" (どれみふぁワンダーランド).

Miyagawa Akira Musician

Pocket Monsters Special artist Yamamoto Satoshi said that he drew the character without looking up Mr. Miyagawa's picture and admits that he doesn't really resemble him at all.

Black makes his way through the Shippou City museum to face off against its Gym Leader.  Aloe praises him for making it to her arena so quickly and decides to reward his efforts by sending out her first pokemon, Muland.  Black responds by sending out Musha.  After telling Black that her second pokemon will be Minezumi, Aloe decides to use her Muland's Roar technique to find out what her opponent's second pokemon is.  Black's Musharna is replaced by his Wargle, catching the young trainer off-guard.  As Muland attacks War over and over, Black realizes that the strategy he had come up with to defeat her has been ruined.  Meanwhile, White has a meeting with the mayor of Raimon City to discuss ways to attract new tourists to the city.  Much to White's surprise, the mayor loves her idea of starting up a series of Pokemon Musicals!  Back at the Gym, Black uses Aloe's strategy against her by having War use Whirlwind to send Muland back into its Monster Ball.  He then has War use Air Slash on Aloe's disoriented Minezumi, defeating Aloe's first pokemon in one blow.  Can Black defeat Aloe's remaining pokemon and earn himself the Basic Badge?

Black's battle with Aloe continues as War goes up against Aloe's Muland.  Unfortunately, Black doesn't figure out that Muland's fourth move is Last Resort until it's too late.  His Wargle is defeated, leaving only Musha left.  Black's pokemon tries to use Hypnosis but fails, leaving it open to Muland's Take Down attack. After thinking about the battle up to that point, Black decides to have Musha use Zen Headbutt as a last resort.  The attack, combined with the recoil damage accumulated from Muland's repeated Take Down attacks, defeats Black's opponent and earns him the Basic Badge.  White meets up with Black at the Gym and tells him all about the plans to hold a Pokemon Musical in Raimon City.  Later that night, Aloe receives a phone call from her colleague Yakon.  He asks her to analyze a black stone holding an immense amount of energy that his Doryuuzu dug up earlier.  She agrees and leaves the Gym to go pick it up.  Unknown to the two of them, the Dark Trinity is spying on their conversation.  They recognize the stone as the Dark Stone and make plans to steal it so they can harness the power of the legendary dragon pokemon Zekrom.

As Black and White finish up in Shippou City, Kidachi announces that a bunch of his museum's treasures, including their "Dragon Pokemon Bones," have been stolen!  As Black leaves to go after the thieves, a man named Arti stops him with his Wheega and offers to help.  When the two of them step outside, they see the unbelievable:  the stolen skeleton is walking around on its own!  After Black calls on the people behind this to step forward, the three Plasma-Dan grunts from the Site of Dreams and Azul, one of their Seven Sages, appears.  Black tells them how he discovered the skeleton's location and deduces that either a Psychic or a Ghost type pokemon is manipulating the bones.  At that moment, Black figures out that the coffin hidden among the artifacts stolen from the museum is really a Deathkan!  Arti's Wheega defeats the pokemon, stopping the skeleton and prompting the Plasma-Dan members to retreat.  Later, Black tells Arti that he knows he's a Gym Leader and expresses his desire to battle him when he gets to Hiun City.  As Black and White leave Shippou City, Arti becomes troubled by the "hero" and "dragon" the Plasma-Dan mentioned as they were leaving...

As Black and White make their way through the Pinwheel Forest, they get caught up in a strong wind.  They press forward anyway and eventually make their way across the Skyarrow Bridge.  There, the trainers meet a janitor named Shinosuke who demands a double battle from Black.  His Yabukuron smells too bad for Poka to approach and his Chillachino can block Tula's electric attacks with its tail, making both of his pokemon seem untouchable.  As Shinosuke's pokemon unleash a volley of attacks, his Chillachino knocks Poka into a dumpster.  The Fire-type pokemon emerges with two plastic bottles in its nose, plugging it up and preventing Yabukuron's stench from getting to it!  Now fighting at 100%, Pokabu is able to defeat Yabukuron with a fire attack.  Next, Tula stops using electric attacks and begins relying on its other techniques to defeat the janitor's Chillachino.  When the battle is finished, Shinosuke tells the trainers that the whirlwind the two encountered was caused by the legendary pokemon Virizion.  He then reveals that he is the head of the Hiun City Battle Company and exchanges business cards with White.  The two trainers bid Shinosuke farewell, finish crossing the bridge, and make their way into Hiun City.
