The Anime Expo Premiere of "Mewtwo Strikes Back Evolution"
August 25th, 2019

Dogasu @ 23:01 JST -- I know this is about two months late but I wanted to make sure to document the huge event that was the Anime Expo showing of Mewtwo Strikes Back Evolution.

Anime Expo 2019

The event is notable not only for being the world premiere of the film for but being the first time in the more than two decade history of this franchise that the Japanese version of Pocket Monsters was officially shown in the U.S. with English subtitles. It is impossible to overstate how big a deal that is.

I was unfortunately unable to attend so I took the write-up from the movie's official website and combined it with reports from fans who actually were able to attend to create what I hope is the most comprehensive coverage of the premiere online. If you attended Anime Expo 2019 and see something in my write-up that's not quite right, or if you have some details of your own to add then please let me know.

Mewtwo Strikes Back Evolution (ミュウツーの逆襲 EVOLUTION) is the 22nd Pocket Monsters movie. The film was released on Friday, July 12th, 2019 in Japan and is part of a year-long campaign known as "The Year of Mewtwo."
