Pre-Release Information | Characters | Plot Synopsis | About the Author / Artist It's very rare to get a lot of information about a manga series before it's printed. Most of the time, we only get a title and author the month before its debut and little else. Pocket Monsters Réburst, however, is a special case. Word of the series first surfaced at the World Hobby Fair Winter '11, a festival thrown by Shogakukan twice a year to show off upcoming games and merchandise. Among the posters on display at the fair were those advertising a new Pokemon manga set to begin serialization in one of the March 2011 issues of Weekly Shounen Sunday (週刊少年サンデー). These posters showed images of what appear to be the main human characters as well as a silhouette of a pokemon that resembles Zekrom. The first day of the World Hobby Fair Winter '11 was January 16th, 2011. About a month later, an announcement in the March 2011 issue of CoroCoro Comics (above) revealed that this new series will begin in the March 9th issue of Weekly Shounen Sunday. The announcement also tells us that this first chapter will then be reprinted in the April 2011 issue of CoroCoro Comics, set to be released on March 15th. As the name suggests, Weekly Shounen Sunday is a weekly publication, so it is assumed we'll get about four new chapters of this new Pokemon manga every month. Later, in Volume 13 of Weekly Shounen Sunday (on sale February 23rd, 2011), the title of the series was revealed. In Volume 14 of Weekly Shounen Sunday
(on sale March 2nd, 2011), some additional information was
revealed. The magazine reported that the story woulud revolve
around
a boy named Ryouga (リョウガ) who leaves his small village on a
journey to meet his father and a mysterious warrior in a place called
Arcades (アルカデス). A black and white image at the very end of the
magazine shows Ryouga with a Koaruhi, Hitomoshi, Maracachi, and
Zurug. It also announced that the first chapter will be 56 pages
long.
Some
fansites reported that the new series was announced as being
"more mature than previous titles," but there is absolutely no truth to
that statement. The idea that the series will be "more mature" is
pure speculation; nothing in any of the pre-release materials have
even hinted at this.
