Satoshi and his friends head to
Álamos Town to participate in its Pokemon Contest. While
there, they meet a beautiful girl named Alice who shows them the
various landmarks in the town, including the Space-Time Tower (時空の塔)
and a beautiful garden with flowing water and rich greenery.
While in the garden, our heroes are approached by a baron named Alberto
who believes that the garden has been ruined by the work of the phantom
pokemon Darkrai.
Suddenly, the pokemon Darkrai appears! At the same time, a rift in time and space appears and reveals a colossal battle between the legendary pokemon, Dialga and Palkia! As the battle rages on, the town is enveloped in a fog and begins to disintegrate. Tonio, a scientist in Álamos Town, determines that the damage is being caused by Palkia's attempt to cross over into their dimension. As our heroes try to figure out what to do, Darkrai does its best to quell the anger of the pokemon who are revered as gods. Who will emerge as the victor of the battle? Can Satoshi and his friends stop the fight before it destroys Álamos Town? What role will a song that's been passed down in Alice's family for generations play in the battle?
For this year's
feature, director Yuyama Kunihiko, screenwriter Hideki Sonoda, and composer
Shinji Miyazaki traveled to Spain for inspiration for the film's
setting. The director and his staff went to Barcelona
in September 2006 to take pictures for the movie's setting and based
some of the locations in the movie (i.e. the Space-Time Tower) on
real-life loacations (La Sagrada Família, a large Roman-Catholic
basilica).
The tagline for this movie is 「神と呼ばれたポケモンたちのバトル。今、新た なる物語が始まる」 (A battle between the pokemon who are called Gods...now, a brand new story begins!)
