OK,
so here's the deal. The first chapter of the manga has been
released in Japan, but unfortunately, I haven't been able to obtain a
copy of it. Nobody seems to know how to get CoroCoro issues to
the US,
so it looks like I may have to wait for a graphic novel release to
occur before I can pick this up.
However, a few scans of the manga have surfaced on the Internet, so what I'm going to do is translate the random pages that have been posted and see if I can't figure out a general plot outline for the manga. All of these scans originated from Imawaka Loader (specifically this page), a Japanese Nintendo fansite. As with other manga adaptations of the movies, this may or may not have a different story from the final version of the film. The first scan is from pages 37 and 38. You have to copy and paste the URL into your browser in order to view it: http://f42.aaa.livedoor.jp/%7Eimawaka/imgboardphp/src/1145022082052.jpg

Panel Two Haruka: "Waaa~!" Panels Three through Six don't have any dialogue. Panel Seven Haruka: "Aah!" Haruka: "Wait up!" Page 38 Panel One
Haruka: "Wait!" Panel Two Hiromi: "What's wrong?" Haruka: "Ah" (It seems like she's breathing heavily here) Panel Three Everyone: "The Water Temple?" Panel Four Haruka: "Yep, no doubt about it. The pokemon took me there." Panel Five Hiromi: "Haruka-chan, have you ever heard of the 'Water People'?" Panel Six Haruka: "Uh...no." Satoshi: "Who are they? These 'Water People'?" The first page is obviously a dream sequence featuring a naked Haruka being taken to the Water Temple. Now if this scene is animated, I don't expect Haruka to remain naked since the show is aimed at little kids. The strange structure in Panel Four (the one with Manaphy) is the Water Temple (which we later learn is named Akuusha), and it's one of the central locations in the movie. The dialogue drives the majority of the second page, but I would like to point out that it looks like Haruka and the others are sleeping in a bus, not unlike Diane's bus in the Jiraachi movie. The bus most likely belongs to the Mariner Troupe, the group whose traveling around giving a special "Water Pokemon Show." I don't know what page the second scan is from, but judging by Satoshi's reaction to the Rocket-Dan's dilemma and the fact that Manaphy hasn't hatched yet, it seems to fit at this part in the story. Rocket-Dan: "Waaaaah!!!" Satoshi: "The Rocket-Dan!!" Panel Two Musashi (in Nyasu's body): "Why am I Nyasu!?" Panel Three Kojirou (in Musashi's body): "I became Musashi!" Panel Four Nyasu (in Kojirou's body): "I'm in a human's body Nya~!" Panel Five Satoshi: "Is there something wrong with them?" Panel Six/Seven Jackie: "Hmm..." Here we see a previously unknown plot point: characters switching bodies with one another. Of course, we don't know why these people are in each other's bodies, but at this point in the story, I don't think the Rocket-Dan know either. The silouhette in the next to the last panel looks like it belongs to Jackie, which is why I credited him with the last line of dialouge. This may end up being the character's introduction into the movie. The third scan is from pages 55 and 56. By this point, we see that Phantom, the movie's villain, has entered the scene. Manaphy: "Manaphy!" Panel Two Phantom: "Why you..." Phantom: "It should have hatched in my hands!" Panel Three doesn't have any dialogue. Panel Four Driver: "Everyone, get on!" The first page is probably the most important part of the story; the hatching of Manaphy. We see that it hatches while in Haruka's arms, and the whole idea that Haruka is Manaphy's "mother" seems to be a major theme in the movie. Another interesting thing to note is that Phantom has a Perap and that the pokemon can imitate human speech. Phantom's dialouge in the second page leads me to believe that he had been fighting with the others for Manaphy's egg. And he seems pretty pissed that it hatched in Haruka's arms. The final scan is from pages 77 and 78, and in these two pages, it looks like Satoshi and Jackie have switched bodies. You have to copy and paste the URL into your browser in order to view it: http://f42.aaa.livedoor.jp/%7Eimawaka/imgboardphp/src/1145022155029.jpg

Jackie (in Satoshi's body): "'Heart Swap!?'" Panel Two Haruka: "'Heart...Swap?'" Panel Three Jackie (apparently back in his old body): "It's one of Manaphy's special abilities. If a certain amount of time elapses, you'll return to the way you were." Haruka: "How weird ~kamo" Panel Four Satoshi's voice from the boat: "Heeeeeeey~! I'm over here!" Panel Five Jackie: "How annoying." The first page reveals that people who switch bodies keep their old voices while they're in their new ones. The second one reveals that all this body swapping has been Manaphy's doing, and that this "Heart Swap" wears off after some time. At the end, we see that Satoshi has swapped bodies again, this time with someone on the boat riding away. The first panel of the first page also seems to indicate that Manaphy can't speak human language, since all it says is its name. Synopsis | Differences
