Information:  Shigeru has been Satoshi's rival since the two of them were little.  The grandson of the world-renowned pokemon expert, Ookido-Hakase, Shigeru's had an advantage from the very beginning.  I'm assuming that he has the same birthdate as Satoshi since they both got their starter pokemon on the same day.  Plus, it also fits that both Shigeru and Satoshi would start their journey as soon as they can, the day of their tenth birthday.  Shigeru won't tell Satoshi who his starter pokemon is, and keeps the "I'm too good to talk to you" attitude through most of the series.  He does lighten up toward the end of the Jouto League, showing that he has matured a bit during his journeys.

Surrounded by a squad of cheerleaders whom are cheering JUST for him, it really isn't hard to see why he's so arrogant.  He's always a step or ten ahead of Satoshi, and enjoys rubbing his success in his rival's face.  As you can see by his list of pokemon, he has gathered a lot of them over the years, yet he hasn't seen as many as Satoshi.  That means that he catches several breeds of the same pokemon.  He rotates his pokemon quite frequently, enabling them to gain experience evenly.  Because of this, he doesn't have the strong bond among his pokemon as Satoshi, whose team remains the same except for the occasional parting of ways.

Shigeru may be a better overall trainer than Satoshi, but that doesn't help him win.  Sure he has ten gym leader badges by the time he enters the Sekiei League, but he places lower than Satoshi in the tournament.

Shigeru doesn't show up too much (possibly to train) until the Jouto League, once helping Satoshi-tachi get through a forest of Ho-Ho and another time using his Blackii to help out at a power plant.  He does make it to the Jouto League Finals, where he does well until he faces off against Satoshi.  He is beaten by his rival, but instead of being bitter he declares that his rivalry with Satoshi is over.  The two trainers become friends, and Shigeru cheers Satoshi on for the duration of the league.

Shigeru decides after the Jouto League to quit his dream of being a Pokemon Master and decides to research pokemon, like his grandfather.  Shigeru is currently somewhere in the Kanto region, researching pokemon.

Pocket Monsters was not created by me.  It was created by Satoshi Tajiri and the crew at TV-Tokyo.  Pokemon is (c) Game Freak, Nintendo, 4Kids Productions, Hasbro, Bandai, and a ton of other companies. When you have a popular anime like Pokemon, lots of people own it so it's impossible to list every company who owns a piece of Pokemon.  No infringement of copyrights is meant by the creation of the web site.  All images were gotten from official websites (Nintendo, TV-Tokyo, etc.) unless otherwise noted (I don't steal images from other sites!).
